Ultrasounds-3D 4D

So I was lurking all over and was just reading a post about someone's ultrasound and she was originally told girl and later on at another ultrasound baby was a boy.

So that got me thinking. With my DD, Justin did NOT want to get a 3D ultrasound done because he thought the babies looked like little aliens and so weird. So we had the 1 ultrasound done at 18 weeks, actually we had 2. I had my 18 wk on and because Hailey was such a stinker and curled up they couldn't get accurate measurements or see the goods so I went in the following week for another. At that ultrasound they got their measurements but couldn't see to tell boy/girl. The tech was super nice and I know her from work so she said she would do a vaginal ultrasound and tell the dr it was needed so we could see if it was a boy or girl. That's the only way we could tell.

This time Justin asked me if I wanted to do the 3 D he said he would be ok with it (I think because he saw my sisters ultrasound). I was shocked, he kind of sounded excited about having it done. So i'm thinking we will do the 18 wk ultrasound and then at 26 weeks or something we will do the 3D.

Did you all get them done with yours? Do you limit the # of ultrasounds you get done?

My sister went to a private clinic that does mainly all 3D ultrasounds and she went at like 14-15 weeks and they told her it was a girl and then she had her 18 week ultrasound done. I went with her to her first one and baby looked so tiny still. I don't know if I would want to do it at 14 weeks. I think I would want to do 18 and then 26 because of the post I was reading. What if baby turned out to be a boy and at 14 weeks they thought it was a girl?

We've never had 3D ones done at the hospital, we always go to a clinic later in the pg to get cute chubby faced 3D pics. I've always had an early u/s, either to date or because I had a recent m/c, usually around 7-8 weeks. I turn down the NT scan, so we don't get anything around 12-14 weeks. And then we get the big anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks where we find out the gender, but again the hospital only does the basic 2D ones.

Here are pics of DS1 and DS2's 3D shots. DS1 was around 25 weeks, DS2 was 27 weeks I think.

As you can see DS1 is a little more skeletal because we did it earlier, which is why we waited a little longer next time. We definitely plan on getting it done this time as well, probably around 27-28 weeks again.

I have always wanted to get one around 16 weeks so I can get a peek at the gender. But I have never been able to convince DH to spring for it.

I had one with both and will be doing so again. My first daughter, I was 25 weeks and I was 27 with my second DD (and my mom got to be there for that one, so it was really special). I'm just stoked that there is now a place locally and I don't have to drive 1.5 hour away, lol! I'll probably do it around the same time frame.

I have had a 2d/3d one with my last 3 babies. Used to be my on office wouldn't do any u/s unless you had a medical issue so that was the only way I can find out. Now with my last baby and this one I go to the big UofI to get an anatomy u/s between 18-20 wks. I still went to a 3d place with my last baby though at 17 wks bc the kids and my mom like to come along and the drs office can't accommodate us all. I will go to a 3d place again at 17 wks with this baby too. I will be in DesMoines on May 7 bc my dd is going up there for a contest and that is where the nearest 3d place is to me so I will do it then. May 29 I go for my anatomy u/s at the U and they will confirm the sex then. The 3d clinic has never been wrong for me. I don't get the best 3d pics that early but you get some cute ones. I've never gone later on got the full 3d package. It's 3 hrs away and we don't drive back up there for another.

My sister went to Prenatal Vision in Des Moines for her ultrasound, I went up with her (and my parents went) it was really neat. I am thinking thats where I would like to go for our 3D one but Des Moines is like 3 hrs from here if we take the interstate. So it would have to be a weekend trip on a Saturday. I suppose I could go to Omaha but I'd like my parents there and DM is only 1 1/2 from them so it would work well to go to DM. There isn't a clinic here in SC like that.

My dr's office only has the 2d one( I think)and my gender scan will be at 16 weeks. With it being a twin pregnancy I am not sure if and when I will have other ultrasounds. I figured at some point I would make an apt at this place a town over esp since this will be my last pregnancy. I wanna figure out the best time to get a 3d-4d though.

After all this talk about ultrasounds (Dh was talking to me about them) and thinking about them. I think i'm going to probably schedule one for 20 wks which is June 2nd. I really wanted to do it in May but I keep telling myself i don't want to go too soon hopefully I can hold out.

I know it seems so soon to think about it but my employer does our schedule almost 3 mnths in advance. So if I need the time off for May/June I have to do it now. I had to schedule my dr's appt for april and may 2 weeks ago. Gah thats 2 1/2 mnths from now !! Oh man i'm so impatient! I think with DH talking to me about the ultrasounds its helped me to be more excited about the baby and pregnancy. Or maybe i'm just having a low hormone day and i'm just not as emotional right now lol Smile

What makes me even more excited is I asked MIL and SIL to come with for this one. MIL has never been to an ultrasound with any of the grandkids (5 of them right now) so this is the first time she's been asked and she started crying. I love her so much and i'm happy to share it with her she such an amazing support for me and always there when I need her. She's so excited which makes me excited!

I went for DS around 30ish weeks, Ill upload a pic later, its soooo cute, and looks so much like him..and it was soo relaxing.

With his 20 week one at the doctors, it was..scary...worried something would be wrong, and they were so technical about measurements and stuff, and kinda..cold...

So this one, HUGE screen, verry friendly, and it was just for "fun" and they confirmed gender... such a wonderful experience to just lay there on a soft nice bed and just get to see my little guy for like 30 minutes!! And got a video and tons of pictures!!

i feel the next baby needs one too, wont be fair to have these 'cool' pictures and movies the first time then jip the second!! hehe

I like going around 30ish weeks- baby is bigger, has more fat, more clear features, yet is still small enough to move around (and get the money shot)

I'd totally reccomend it!!

I totally agree, especially to the bolded. Since it was just for fun it was a lot more comfortable, they had a couch for DH and other family, they had a giant TV on the wall so you could see everything easily and huge. And yeah one of the main reasons I do it is for second confirmation on the gender, just to be totally sure. Smile And we get to just hang out for 30 mins watching baby and we got tons of pics, so it is great. And I've always found it to be the first time that I really get to see DH get really excited about the baby and have it really sink in for him since he can see its little face and see it move, so it becomes much more real for him in that moment. I haven't decided if we want to go just us and have it be a day-date before baby is born, or if we want to bring the boys and invite parents, I'm sure my mom would love to see it, and it would probably help the boys understand a bit better what is going on.

I plan to have the 20ish week anatomy scan and that might be it. It depends on how good the money shot is. It's weird that this time I'm not really itching to know the sex. I'll be equally happy with a boy or girl so I only want to know for planning purposes. I guess I'll be wanting to buy clothes and nursery items soon enough. My patience won't last forever.

I really wanted the detailed u/s with my first because the tech didn't seem too confident of sex. My DH didn't want to spend the time or money. At that time, I believe there was a place in Cedar Rapids or nearby that did them so it would have been close to where we lived. I ended up keeping the tags on her clothes and painting her room yellow. Lol The tech seemed very confident with our second so I didn't care to get another ultrasound with her.

We're skipping the NT scan this time around. I use the doppler to torture this child enough. Wink

I have a gender scan scheduled at a 3D place, but they use regular u/s to check for gender. It's 2 weeks from today!! I'm so excited. I was really hoping to find out gender at my Nuchal scan, but the tech wouldn't go near babys bottom half. Then we'll go back to the same place around 30 weeks for a 3D. I've never had one!

I had one with my first around 25-30 weeks (I can't remember exactly) It was fantastic and work every penny. My parents, brother and his wife, my two bffs and DH were all there. It was so much fun. We got a bunch of great pictures and a DVD. Mine was 3d and 4d. You could really tell that DS looked just like DH from that ultrasound and when he was born he looked they same - - it was amazing! I'm not sure if we'll do one this time - - I hadn't really thought about it, but if we do it will be after my scan with the doc.

Amber- i think it'd be fun to bring them!
Im debating if I should bring Brody or not- it might make it more "real" whats going on in there- but its kind of a long drive and I dont want him to be cranky or not interested and kind of "ruin" it...but since we do get the video maybe i could show him the video.

I loved how they had the couch and everything, so everyone was comfortable and welcome.

At my normal U/S the lady was so rude "Family: sit in chairs, dont touch table" and she kept talking about the baby like it was a train "heres the railroad tracks..." (spine) over and over. And almost didnt find out the gender! Hopefully this ones 20 week one will go better- but the other is just so fun! Plus its in portland so I can shop after hehehe :):)

Last time my mom came ot the normal 20 week, then my dad/stepmom to the other. This I think we'll go alone for both.

I did the 4D at a private place 3 different times with each pregnancy. The first time was at 15weeks to check the gender, again around 27 weeks and finally around 32weeks. We're gonna do it again this time around. Im dying to know the sex of the twins so I can start buying stuff!

I had a 3D u/s with ds at my ob office. At my 20 wk check it was the regular 2D u/s then I had another one around 34 wks because I was measuring so big. They had upgraded their equipment to 3D then so we got some 3D pics too. It was cool.

Now my ob/gyn office does 3D/4D and gives you a cd of your ultra sound so we'll have that at our 20 wk appt. I'm excited about the CD - they didn't do that with ds.

Chaise - Prental Vision is where I went for my first two! I loved it there, so friendly, very comfy, great pics and DVD. With my last 3d one a place had opened in The Quad Cities and so I went there as its closer to me (under 2hrs) but it wasn't as nice. The tech didn't seem as confident nor was she as personable. I found out they closed and im
not surprised. I would have gone back to DM anyway though.

Andrea- I've never been to the Cedsr Rapids one. A lady we know here is the mom of the dr? U/s guy? Whose business it is. When I checked out the website it said you had to wait until after 20 wks though and I want to go sooner at 17 wks. It's more expensive than DM too I think and notice closer for us like 2.5 hrs.

I will probably get a few growth u/s after my 18-20 week anatomy one bc of my high bp. I did last time anyway it was nice to see her so many times!

I'm going to do it, for paranoid reasons lol. I want to see at different points in great detail if the cord is around the neck, as this was what caused our birth incident last time. At least if it isn't around the neck, I can relax a bit! I know that it being around the neck isn't a sure sign of problems, but if it isn't there, I will definitely not worry too much and kick count to an obsessive degree! Otherwise, I'll be kick counting constantly!

Ferz100-Thats a good reason to go to anything to help make you calm a little will be good.

Tiffany- I called prenatal visions on Friday and she said she was scheduling out in June. I made an appt for June 2nd I'd be 20 weeks but then after thinking about it and talking with work (to get a saturday off) I ended up calling and rescheduling. I know have an appt for July 14th. Conveniently I am already on vacation that week so I don't have to fight with work to get the weekend off. I'll be 26 weeks then and the lady on the phone said they recommended 27-34 weeks so I figure I'm close enough to that, maybe the baby will be a little squishier in the cheeks and not boney. We will have our gender scan at the hospital at 20 weeks so it'll be nice to be able to see baby again a month later. I just HATE HATE waiting lol

Wow June?? I wonder if that's only for Saturday appts though? I know those go fast. I want to go on a Monday since I'll be there anyway. Hopefully I dont have to wait that long!

With both of my pregnancies I end up getting u/s done about every other week from 20 weeks on. and deliverd both at 36 weeks. the techs have always given us a 3d photo and it is so crazy how different it is from 20 weeks to 36!
