What to do?

I'm debating on going to an Urgent Care Facility for my sinuses. I had yet another night awake in agonizing pain. I can't handle another one and I have Erin's B'day party tomorrow. I saw a doctor on Thursday and he was hesitant to prescribe meds bc I'm preggo. Per my OB I'm taking sudafed during the day but can't take it at night bc it's non drowsy. I've also started taking regular strength non aspirin pain reliever pretty much religiously every 4 hrs. This has been helping a little. Should I even bother going to an urgent care place? Would they be able to do anything for me? I've NEVER experienced sinus pain like this before. I'm also thinking maybe ill just take the sudafed at night too. It's not like I'm sleeping anyway?

Any one have experience with this?

Have you tried a neti pot? They can really help with sinus pain and congestion. That would be my last resort before going to antibiotics. The make me so sick when I'm pregnant. I hope you feel better soon!

Deirdre, I was going to suggest the neti pot too. Just make sure you are putting distilled water in it and NOT tap water. That can cause big problems. Also, have you tried just simple saline spray? I get sinusitis all the time and it is super painful. Once an onset flares up, I use saline ALL.THE.TIME. and it helps immensely! I spray it hourly at least and it kicks the inflammations butt. Hope you get to feeling better. (((hugs)))

I was going to suggest the neti pot and saline spray also. Great minds and all... Biggrin

My cold is getting worse and I'm going to be flying next week. I'm seriously not looking forward to the ear pain. It sucks to not be able to just take whatever meds you want!

Yep. Have the Neti pot. I forgot to use it last night before bed though. I tried it in the middle of my 2 am party, but the sinus was so blocked the water went no where Sad
I have saline spray for Erin. Perhaps I will try it too. I took a middle of the night steam shower last night and that worked temporarily, but the pain came back with in minutes.
I may have figured out a plan though. The pain is only on my right side so perhaps if i only sleep on my left side, the "stuff" won't sit on the right?

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I'm going to try all of the above tonight I think and hold off on the urgent care if I can.

It's from being pregnant, I had it a few nights too awhile ago. Sad I found sleeping with those nose strips on helped, saline spray and Unisom (but the Unisom is more for morning sickness). I think it has to do with all the hormones, HCG rising, etc. I've also been getting headaches too.

I was thinking pg symptoms too at first, but it's not my head that hurts, it's my face? Only the right side, but from my eyes, across my cheek bone, and my teeth. And that's the side where my congestion sits. Perhaps a little of both?

Does unisom help you sleep?

I had congestion where it hurts my teeth, nearly phoned my dentist (my sinuses run low into my gums) and it was just one sided (think this went on for a week then went away). If it keeps bothering you and doesn't improve, can you see an ENT? I'm sure there are some meds that are safe to take, even antibiotics. When I was pregnant with my 2nd son, I wound up with an UTI and then needed root canal in my 2nd trimester, so I was on antibiotics a few times. Yes, Unisom will knock you out. I only take 1/2 each night along with B6 for nausea. Sometimes, you just gotta sleep and Unisom will help with that.

P.S. I hope it goes away soon Sad

Sorry Deirdre! That sounds awful. You should try the unisom it *i think* is basically the same as drowsy Benadryl which is also safe per my MW. I have insomnia and take it every night it helps me sleep but alas I can stay awake on it too. Also you can try a rice sock over your eyes/nose. If you don't know a rice sock is just any cotton sock with regular (not minute) rice poured in then knotted, you nuke it for 1-2 minutes. They are delightful for sinus pain, back aches, etc. I get teeth pain from sinus infections also so you may need to see an ENT if your dr doesn't want to treat it himself. With my 2nd baby I had constant sinus infections and ended up at the ENT he put me on a dose of safe antibiotics for a good month that cured them finally. Also are you using humidifiers in your house or at least in you bedroom? Those will help too!

Deirdre, that pain sounds just like my bouts of sinusitis. I get it on just the right side too. I thought I had an abscess tooth it hurt so bad the first time I had it. Sad I hope you are feeling better today and something helps!
