Whee, little troublemaker already! Had my 36 week appointment?baby is confirmed breech. Well, kind of?she was in a sort of diagonal breech, confirmed with a quick u/s by the midwife at the appointment, although that was only an hour ago and already she?s gone completely transverse again. She?s just still moving a LOT. They did schedule me for a real u/s and version on Tuesday (at 37 weeks), and in the meantime gave me some recommendations for herbs and exercises to try to encourage her to turn on her own. I?m also seeing my chiro again on Monday so that will hopefully help as well, although it hasn?t so far. Baby likes to be curled up in a tight little ball that confuses everyone when they try to feel position, and can?t give a guess on weight at all because she?s so hard to read, so I guess it?s good to have some real confirmation of what?s happening, at least! I?m just glad this is my second pregnancy?I?m kind of feeling at this point like whatever, there?s time, it?ll work out, but if this had happened last time, I would have been FREAKED.
Anyway, we also did the birth plan thing, and while that was mostly pretty standard, I did find out (thanks for bringing it up, DH!) that one of my most hated and feared hospital policies has changed?the 2 hour nursery stay. He mentioned that that was one of our major concerns in the event of a transfer, and the midwife said that in the past couple of years they?ve made some big changes on that front. Now if L&D is really busy and they ?have? to take the baby to the nursery, they keep it to less than an hour (and family or at least dad is encouraged to accompany). If L&D is reasonable, they will often honor a family?s request to do all procedures and testing in the room, which I was told was nearly impossible to manage in the past. So that does make me feel even more zen about the hospital possibility!
What else?well, I?d only gained a couple of ounces since my last appointment (about a week and a half) but considering how nauseous I?ve been in the interim, and therefore not eating much, I?m not very surprised. I?m up 18.5 total so far, which is on the low side, but they didn?t seem too worried, just mentioned it. HR was 140, I?m measuring a couple of weeks small but again she wasn?t all that concerned, just thinks it?s probably due to her funky position more than anything. I have been measuring a week behind for some time now (but progressing appropriately) and always measured a week small with Adair too, even when she was head down, so I guess that?s just normal for me.
Then DH and I got to have a midday date and go out to lunch, so that was nice! Overall a mildly frustrating but I guess mostly pleasant appointment. Fingers crossed on the GBS swab?
sorry baby's breech! At least it sounds like she has plenty of room still. I hope she flips for you before the version.
Yay for changing hospital policies! A 2 hour nursery stay sounds terrible (My first went to NICU for 2 hours and it was so hard).
18.5lbs sounds fine, as does measuring a week behind. I've already given my MW a warning that I measure behind at the end. I stopped growing at 35w last pregnancy (ended up with an u/s at 38w) and still had a healthy, 7lb baby at 39w. I'm up 21lbs as of 35w, but with DS2 I only gained 22.5lbs and he was 7 1/2lbs at 40w. So... I think everything sounds awesome. Except the breech baby. But there's still plenty of time!

Yeah, I think some of us just carry small! I have a long torso, a very oddly positioned baby, and a normally high metabolism that goes supersonic during pregnancy. It is what it is! Fortunately, my midwives are as laid back about that stuff as they can be, and in particular the one I saw today is one of the originals and has seen it ALL. If she's not worried, I'm not worried.
Adair always measured a week behind, like I said, and the mw's were guessing "MAYBE 7 pounds" on her weight. She was a full 8 on the dot--just long and skinny and dense, I guess!
Little ratbag! A balled up breech baby! Hope the exercises and herbs work well for you and she's pushing on your cervix in no time. I mean that in the nicest possible way
