I just had my second ob appt (I was at 13 weeks then, I'll be 14 tomorrow). I had lost 15 pounds since my last appt which had been about 3 weeks before. They said if I lose anymore weight they're putting me in the hospital.
What I'm worried about is that I don't look pregnant at all and I'm wondering if the baby is growing enough. This is my third pregnancy and normally I'm in maternity clothes by now and have a least a little bump. I don't carry any weight around my waist, so it is really obvious that there just isn't anything there. I wish they'd done an ultrasound to see how the baby is growing.
I'm just sooooo sick and eating just about anything is disgusting to me right now. They put me on the prescription morning sickness meds, but they don't seem to help much. Plus I don't want to gain much weight since I haven't lost the baby weight from the last baby.
Oh honey don't worry about the weight. A healthy baby is worth it in the end. Can you call and ask for an US? Demand one to relieve your mind? It may not be to much of a concern so early. I know many women who are really sick and still the baby does well, just stay hydrated. I was sick with the stomach for a week and had to get IV fluids and all is still good here. I lost 6 lbs in that one week!
I have lost a little weight, but only a couple pounds. I also started "underweight". I did the same thing with my first two (because of severe m/s). I started at 100lbs and dropped to 95 and they were both healthy, happy boys. This time I started at 104 and dropped to 100lbs even though I thought I was eating plenty. And baby's measuring 5 days ahead, so he's growing fine. I have been on m/s meds this time (and with 2 other pregnancies). They seem to take a few days to a week to really kick in for me. I hope yours start helping soon. And don't worry about gaining weight! Baby needs food to grow (and yes, that includes fat. The brain needs it to develop properly). Worry about losing weight after the baby is born. Right now just try to make him or her grow.
I hope you feel better soon.

I think I've only lost a couple of lbs. since conceiving and that wasn't really due to m/s, just due to a change in eating (healthier) and getting back on the exercise wagon. But, I have gained a couple over the last couple of weeks. I agree with the other ladies that you need not worry about gaining too much weight this time around, just eat whatever/whenever you can stomach. The baby does need good fats to develop the brain that come from fats like milk, butter, sour cream... very important for brain/nerve development.
I've got the opposite problem. I've put on 3-4 kilos.
Babies are very good at taking everything they need from you, even if you are losing weight. I'm sure everything is going along great!

Baby #3 due Oct 1st!!
I can't believe they didn't do an u/s just to put your mind at ease! That said, I agree with the others not to worry about putting on weight right now--the baby needs it and as long as you're not gaining more than you're supposed to (around 30 pounds) it will come right off again after baby is born. I swear I have been eating like a horse the past 3 months, but because I'm not drinking (lots of calories in alcohol...) and eating a little healthier than normal, AND my body is working so hard making this baby, I have gained zero weight (I gained like a pound but lost it again.) Which is crazy because I am definitely showing--weird to be getting bigger but weighing the same! Seriously: eat lots of healthy food and try not to worry about the scale. And make them give you an u/s if there's any cause for worry next time!
Thanks guys. I'm starting to feel a little better. I've started eating a little more, but I wish all the healthy foods didn't look so nasty right now. Seriously, it's like all carbs now. Meat, fruits and vegetables just send me running to the bathroom. Maybe once my stomach gets used to eating more, I can start branching out to other food groups slowly.
Glad you're feeling better. Don't worry--I swear I kept the cracker business afloat during my first tri last time. Do dairy, nuts, or other things like that sound manageable? I've been eating a lot of almonds, yogurt, and string cheese. Even ice cream at this point, if it sounds good to you!
