    Default dreading the comments

I'm definitely showing (earlier than with any of the others) and I've noticed people starting to glance a little longer at my belly. The comments are going to come any day and I don't really want to deal with them. Ugh. I miss the days of happy congratulations instead of comments on family size (4 isn't that big!) or how busy I must be (want to come help?) or anything else like that.

I'm sure that must be annoying. Take heart that people will find a way to comment annoyingly about almost anything, though. For your first, it's happy but it's also everyone's opportunity to dump all their unwanted advice/warnings/craziness all over you. At least once you're a veteran, you don't have to listen to anyone telling you ridiculous things like "Sleep now while you can!" (have these people ever been pregnant??) and "Don't be a hero, just get that epidural right away!" (...Thanks, UPS lady. So glad I checked with you before writing up my birth plan. )

actually, you'd be surprised how often I have gotten comments like that with #2 and #3! If I ever went out without the kids I got advice from everyone. I started interrupting to tell them "actually, it's my 2nd/3rd".

    Lurker ....

I remember reading a thread like this a few years ago on here while lurking around - probably on the Large Families board and the one person had a great comeback that stuck with me...

I think she was on her 5th or 6th child and she said that whenever anyone comments on the # of children they have, she just says "We decided we'd keep going until we got an ugly one"

I am so tired of people saying "Going for the girl, are ya?" I have no control over that! I know people mean well, but it's annoying. I will be happy with another boy, I'll be happy with a girl. I trust God! He knows what He is doing.

I'm not a big fan of this type of comment either. I'm only having #3 and after 2 boys it is actually a girl this time. So, of course, I always hear "you must be so excited to be having a girl". I'm sure most of them don't really mean anything by it but I always point out that we are not having a 3rd child to "get a girl". I am excited about that but would be just as happy about another little boy...I just wanted 3 kiddos.

I really, really dislike it when people say something like that in front of my kids. Do you think they can't understand you? Do you expect me to say in front of them "actually, I've always wanted a girl, but we just keep having boys." even if that were true (I did want a girl with the first few but now I'm thrilled to have all boys) I would never say it in front of my kids and even being asked might make them wonder "what's wrong with boys?"

Thankfully, there are quite a few of us on this board (4?, I think?) that are adding their fourth baby in Oct. We can all commiserate together! I already hear all the time, "My, you must have your hands full" when I take my three out to shop for groceries or run errands and I have really good kids. I am just beginning to show now and am sure I will be getting "the look" soon too. We are hoping for a second boy this time around... DS REALLY wants a brother. But, I obviously would be happy with another girl too! Where we live, most families seem to just have one or two children, so four is considered a large family, although I don't really consider it that large!

I'm actually dreading when I announce our 4th coming soon too. People already think we're crazy having 3 kids, but we're financially stable, we spend a bunch of time with the kids, and we still have a strong marriage. I don't think it's anyone's business how many kids you have. Honestly, #4 was an oops but we can handle it. My husband had just started coming around to the idea of #4 (we wanted to wait until my youngest was 3 or 4) but this one happened when he/she happened.

But I think maybe I'll say the ugly comment when I announce it on FB (which will be in a few weeks probably, unless I start showing and seeing people around here sooner). My mom knows and she just asked a few questions...didn't seem really excited but not disappointed either. I think she thinks I have my hands full with the 3 we already have and worry since we're military. (shrugs) Can't please everyone!
