So Lyla had her 15 month checkup today. She was diagnosed as 'perfect'! The pediatrician was very happy with her stats and development. She's 31 3/4 inches tall, and weighs 22.5 pounds. And her head is 19 3/4 inches. I was concerned about her weight, but the doc said that she's fine and asked about the physical stats of our families. After thinking about it, that makes sense. Both DH and I were tall, thin kids. All our neices and nephews are tall and skinny kids, so it seems like it's just part of her genetic makeup.
The doc also said that she thinks her eating is fine since she is steadily gaining weight in proportion with her height. She said it's completely normal for toddlers to be picky eaters and go through stages where they'll only eat something if it's a certain shape or color or particular flavor etc. She was also really pleased to hear that her beverages consist of milk and water. She even took her shots like a trooper!!
The only part that didn't go so well was that she still has an ear infection. The pedi prescribed a different antibiotic than she was on in Dec for it. The pharmacist told us she can't have dairy withing two hours of taking the antibiotic. The instruction pamphlet that came with it said that it should be taken at regular intervals to keep a consistent amount of it in her system. That's a problem. In order to abide by the interval stipulation, she'd have to have the antibiotic at 8am and 8pm, but she has her sippy of milk when she wakes up between 7 and 8am and her evening milk between 7 and 8pm. There is no way around the milk. So the only other option is to forget the interval thing and give her the antibiotics during her snack times. DH is highly offended at the idea that a toddler her age is required to avoid dairy for 8 hours during the day due to an antibiotic. Luckily it's only for 5 days, but she sure is going to miss her cheese and yogurt. I still haven't figured out how to do this with MDO on Tuesday.
