Olivia fell on her arm today and managed to break her wrist. It's a buckle fracture and it's splinted for now. We see the pediatric orthopedic doctor tomorrow to see if she needs a cast. Poor baby!! Anyone have experience with broken limbs?
Oh no! Poor girl. I have no experience other than witnessing my brother's broken arm when he was like 7. Seemed to hurt like no other but he healed quickly. Kids are fortunately resilient like that. I imagine she'll be more annoyed by the splint than anything.
Yeah I know Elin does, but I haven't seen her in a couple of days. Maybe she's on vacation?
We are already having trouble because she can't get up from the floor without help with just one arm and it hurts to put weight on the broken one.
I'm also dreading avoiding water, dirt etc. for who knows how long!! We might even cancel our vacation the last week of July. We were supposed to go to Sesame Place, the Zoo and the Aquarium. The last two aren't problems, but I'm afraid they won't let her on any rides at Sesame Place. I called today and basically they said it's up to the discretion of the individual running the ride. It makes me sad that we'll have to avoid the beach, pool etc. at least through July, probably into August.
Aw, bummer! Poor kiddo! I don't have any advice, sorry! (((Hugs)))
I'll add to what I wrote on FB- I think that she'll be so used to it within a week that she will kinda forget it hurt in the first place. Also, any skin you can see peering in the cast keep dry and watch for rashes. Ronan got a heat rash and we were able to use corn starch to help resolve it- so that was nice. She could still do a lot of things- are they worried about her not being able to hold on during rides? Even swimming you could do if you hold her and have her just in waist down? Hmmmm keep us posted with how she's doing! Oh, and be adamant about getting her in with an ortho asap- don't want to have to delay her treatment! Be pushy When we brought Ro to the ER when he broke his femur, they put an incorrect splint on, then said to follow with an ortho in FIVE days- but we got him in asap which was good since he needed the spica cast.
After calling around all over the place yesterday we were able to get an appointment with the ortho for this morning. I'll KUP!
