I'd say for over half the days in April aiden didn't get his teeth brushed at all. If I don't do it it doesn't happen at all. Even with me asking DH to not forget before bed at the very least. *sigh*
I did find a fruit flavored toddler toothpaste recently and decided that full of chemical toothpaste that he likes is better than toothpaste he refuses to use. I let him brush himself for a minute while putting on his night diaper and then I take over. He's not too fond of me brushing his teeth but at least I can get 30-45 seconds worth before he clamps up completely.
Madison does ok with it she tries to bite the brush but I think thats just because something is in her mouth. My dentist was very stern on not using floride toothpaste because it can hurt her down the road.
I am laughing my butt off right now. Aiden just ran up to me with his toothbrush and toothpaste and wanted me to put the toothpaste on the toothbrush! Still not sure how he got to them on the bathroom counter, but this kid is brushing his teeth! This is totally out of nowhere! WTH kid?! Where did this come from?!
I definitely recommend trying a new toothpaste. We got the J/A/S/O/N kid one that's like strawberry or something, and she doesn't love it but she tolerates it. One night DH accidentally put our mint toothpaste on and she FRRRRRREAKED out--message received!
We also have a song we sing on the way in to the bathroom and try to make toothbrushing sound fun and exciting...you can also try doing it yourself, doing it first with his stuffed animals or whatever he likes to play with, and generally making a game out of it. Addy, at least, is pretty easy to trick with that. DH had her begging for eardrops with the stuffed animal routine.
We use the JASON kids toothpaste too (orange flavor with a happy crab on the tube). T likes to suck it off and then throw the tooth brush at me. How good the brushing is depends on the day. Some days she won't let me near her. Others she lets me go at it for a few minutes and get them really good. I try really hard not to make it into a screaming match and I try to end it positively each time because I figure associating a battle the tooth brushing is worse than occasionally skipping it. T likes to brush the teeth of her stuffed animals which is really awesome. Really awesome at spreading tooth paste everywhere.
Battle here too sometimes. Some days it takes 2 of us to hold him down & get in there. Some days it's not worth the battle and we just let him chew on the brush himself. At least we try!

We don't use toothpaste yet. I am waiting until she learns the concept of spitting and I am not working on that concept for obvious reasons She doesn't really like me to brush, but I will gently brush her lips and then she will open her mouth-guess she prefers me to brush her teeth over her lips, lol! I also tell her that it is my turn first, then her turn and I let her "brush" her teeth herself when I am done. She just chews on the toothbrush though.
