Well after extensive discussion and everyone being in agreement, the IL's broke the rule about buying for adults and DH and I were given gifts!! We were only supposed to buy for the kids this year! Now we look like losers for not getting the adults anything. Our kid gifts were a hit though. Lyla didn't unwrap a single gift. I guess because she's never been given a wrapped gift at all. Even at her birthday they were all in bags. And since we were at grandma's, where there were tons of knick knacks and tiny/glass Christmas figurines on low shelves, she wasn't too interested in any of the actual presents.

I got a box of 243 bullets from FIL. I don't own a 243. DH does, so I guess I'll have to borrow his rifle to use my bullets.

My brother had his work schedule changed so he worked yesterday, which means his marraige proposal got moved to today. I keep waiting to hear something, but nothing so far. I called him, but got no answer. I guess they'll tell everyone whenever they get around to it.

Been to the shops and back, not much good stuff out, but I love how anything vaugly related to Christmas is now half price. We needed more custard because hubby bought home two huge tins of pudding and the custard Mum bought went out of date yesterday so I bought yummy expensive brandy custard because it was reduced. Also got a colouring in book to put aside for Ronin for next year and a chocolate and coffee gift pack

Anna dont feel bad, if they broke the rules they really must of wanted to get you guys something.. Im glad Lyla had a good day..

Our Christmas has been a busy crazy one. We woke up early, did the kids presents, got showered, ate, went to church, then came home and got our families presents in the car and off we went. It was nice, but man my house is a disaster.. Natalie was a stinker.. She didnt get a nap and kinda whined all day. My niece had to hold her the whole time because that is who she wanted and when she would get put down, she would cry.

I was all set to take Ronin to church for the Christmas Eve service this year but I couldn't find the time for the service listed anywhere for the Anglican church here in town so we went looking at Christmas lights and when we drove past around 7:30 it appeared to be starting but neither of us were dressed for church, Ronin was in his pjs and I was in this silk wrap hippy style dress I have. Oh well, next year.

I wish hubby would eat vegetarian lasange, I found a recipe for a polenta and zucchini (but I would add more veg with it) lanange but there is no point maiking it if he won't eat it.

Wendy my dh is the same way sorta. I made lasagna one time with spinich and meat and he threw a fit. He said that all he could taste was the spinich.. I asked him about eggplant and that was a big NO!!

My phone friend just sent me a pic. Somehow she caught pink eye!! She looks horrible.

I just realised I missed buying somethign really important when I did the groceries, mustard pickles. You have to have mustard pickles to go on boxing day leftover ham sandwiches. I had to make do with hot English mustard and I can tell you it's just wrong.

Hubby calls vegetable lasange an abomination. To him it must have meat suace, bechamel sauce and at least two cheeses mixed on top, three is better.

My DH actually appreciates the occasional vegetarian dish. I bet I could make a vegi lasagna and he'd eat it fine, though I'm sure he'd say he prefers it with meat. I wanted to switch to whole wheat pasta only, but DH hates whole wheat pasta, so that's a no go big time.

Anna, that is a really random present to me. lol. I agree that you shouldn't feel bad because there was clearly an agreement!

Wendy, great reminder for me to check out all those random Christmas packs things. I bet I can find some cheap bath stuff and food items that are considered to be "Christmas" tomorrow.
Oh, and I make the vegetarian lasagna but never tell DH till after he starts eating it and asks about the meat. By that point he can't claim he doesn't like it because he's already had a few bites without complaint. Lol
The only reason we found out the mass times here was because of the church FB page. I find it really sad that I couldn't find out the times on their webpage, but I could on FB. The church we tried was HUGE, so we're going to try the other Catholic church in town next weekend. In the past we've found it really hard to feel like a member in a large church. Even though we're not here for long, I'd still like to try to find a church I like.

It took a couple of years for DH to get used to the whole wheat pasta. I actually "overcook" it by 2-3 minutes so that DH likes it. Less of a bite then. There are still some dishes that I make where I don't use whole wheat pasta, but they're not healthy in the least bit (and not eaten much) so why bother to use whole wheat pasta? lol.

Oh this one it would be noticeable theres no meat, it will be all veggie. I'm thinking of making it anyway and he can eat it or starve. The polenta is used instead of pasta sheets

Yup thats why he doesn't get it often. I really should have bought the stuff for it when I did groceries this week for him to have for our wedding anniversary, but I might hold it over for a night he will be home. I make everything bar the pasta from scrtach as well

It is pretty good, but not healthy at all. He generally gets one for his birthday and our anniversary and sometimes Father's day if his birthday and Father's day are closer to a week apart which is very rare

I love lasagna. I figured out a quicker way to make it. I used to buy the boil less ones, but it doesnt taste as good, so now I omit the egg so it cooks faster.. Basically just has to heat up.

So did anyone get anything from their hubby this year? Dh and I usually dont do gifts but this year we did.. He honestly surprised me because he put thought into a present..

i actually really like whole wheat things. I prefer whole wheat bread and such, but pasta i can not do!! I tried it and can't stand it. Someone pointed out to me that catelli smart has pasta that is white with the "goodness" of whole wheat so i get that.

my family is gone now. Everything went well Biggrin A little crowded at our table, but we managed. Lucas did well and just passed out in the last 30 minutes. i can't believe Christmas is over already!!! anyone have new years plans? I doubt I am going to the malls tomorrow. If I do, it will be later in the day. We are already planning on seeing my aunt and uncle and DH's aunt so we will see.

I went and bought a gift for myself from Ronin and hubby just so I had something under the tree, but now I'm thinking I shouldn't have and made him feel guilty, thats everything this year he didn't get anything for me. have you ever asked him why he doesn't bother getting you a gift? that would make me really upset! not even so much relating to a gift, just that he didn't think about you after all you do for him.

you guys used to do them on new years? we don't typically do fireworks for new years eve because it is too cold! more in places where there are huge get togethers. we are going to be at home as well, nobody to watch Lucas. Not like we would have plans anyways. We have friends that might come by, but I am expecting it to be a quiet evening. Maybe I will just get drunk once Lucas goes to bed Blum 3

Before he lost his job last year and Ronin was born he was an awesome gift giver, he just doesn't anymore. I've just given up and figure we don't have as much disposable income now so he is probably being wise, but that might work more for me if he didn't buy everything he wants on a whim.

I was thinking of getting drunk once Ronin goes to bed but because I am on call I can't. I may just have an extra drink or go all out and have something a little stronger than wine. It's the middle of summer here so it is nice and warm. Bigger places have them every new years.

We just do PJs on Christmas Eve and stockings. DH did well with the PJs, but not so much with the stocking. I asked for my 2 favorite candies and said that I didn't care what else he put in there and to surprise me. Well, I ONLY got those two candies. So I'm not going to feel guilty for buying something just for me tomorrow. DH got a nice watch in his stocking along with several kinds of candy. Blum 3

My mom has tons of stuff, but at least it's mostly up high (like on shelves, the mantle, etc). We don't have much stuff at all. Every time we move I throw or give away a few more things from the few we have (year around stuff obviously). lol.

This game is actually a ton of fun... AND I started to play this when dh was active military with the spouses, so it would be a good way to meet other mommies. It really is soooo muchhh fun!!

We don't do anything for New Years except watch 'the ball' drop and then watch a countdown for our timezone. The only time in our relationship we've ever been out on New Years eve is when DH was playing in a band (which used to be every year). So I can't say that Lyla has put a damper on our plans, since we'd be at home in pj's anyway.

My MIL has LOT's of tiny little glass knick knack stuff. When we are over at their house, it's not possible to take your eyes off of her for a second. FIL and SIL spent a lot of time hollering 'no no' at Lyla and Chayten, which irritated me a bit. I feel like if I am RIGHT THERE they should let me handle that before shouting at my child. I can't even say anything though because I know DH wouldn't back me up on that. MIL kept telling FIL to leave her alone and that she wasn't hurting anything.

Anyway, Lyla was awesome today. She has been such a happy, playing girl all day long. She napped the whole way back home in the car from 5 to 6pm though and I just put her down in her crib about 20 minutes ago. She didn't put up a fight at all, but we can see her on the monitor, still awake. She needs time to just roll around in her crib and get comfy.

Dh bought me 2 looms. I asked for them, and 3 gift certificates. One to get a massage, one to get my nails done, and a short membership to the Y. Ive been telling him that I wanted to go for like a month because I cant run outside anymore..He honestly did way too much for me and spent way to much money. I just wanted him to get me somethign that was thought about..

That's awesome!! How sweet of him. My DH tries to meet a 'need' he perceives when buying me gifts, but it generally tends to fall far short of anything I wanted. Once in a while though, he does well.

My DH got me some candy and a garmin gps for me to keep with me in my car or purse. I have to travel to some remote areas for my research sometimes so it's going to come in handy. I gave him the idea for the garmin, but in years past he has come up with stuff on his own, too. I am hard to buy for, since I do the shopping for the family and if I need something I get it. He doesn't really buy things for himself so for birthdays/Christmas he typically gets practical stuff, but he likes that.

Our News Years is always laid back. Neither of us care to go out, so we have my brother over. We watch a movie, eat snacks, play a game or something and wait for the ball to drop. I actually love it.

My DH would really rather have the practical stuff. He's always way more interested in stuff he can use, and therefore assumes that everyone else needs/wants practical gifts too. One year he insisted on a lightbulb changer for his mom despite my vehemet objections to that idea. All he could think about is how handy it would be for her not to have to get up on a stool to change light bulbs. Turns out that their house doesn't have a single light bulb socket on a ceiling anywhere, so the entire house is either lit with lamps or the bulbs are within reach. He's better than his dad though. If you missed my post earlier, I got a box of bullets from him. In years past FIL's staple gifts have been swiss army knives/hammers or dollar store watches for the women.

Grrr....Internet keeps eating my reply! *sigh*

We would watch the ball drop, but we don't have TV service to even watch it. lol. Last year we were at my parents and played games with them.

Sorry I assumed it was an old person's game. The only people I know who have played it are my grandmother, my mom, and my mom's 75 year old next door neighbor. I doubt if I'll ever play it though since it requires a group of people and I don't know anyone.

I just got back from [picking hubby up from work.

I think I have a problem ladies, I have started buying Ronin Christmas gifts for next year already. Today I bought a colouring in book (half price so $1) and a wipe clean colouring in book (75% off so $1.25) to be put aside to go in his Santa sack next year.

They will be this year. I just find it easier to spread the little costs out over the year. $2 here and there is much easier than $2-$5 multiplied by lots all at once. Our Kmart has great stocking stuffer toys as well, next year he is getting some more puzzles and alphabet magnents.
