Christmas Presents

I know there's a birthday presents thread and people have mentioned Christmas ideas here and there, but can we have a thread? I've been thinking about it a lot and just can't settle on one idea. I was just thinking about a dollhouse because she LOVES the one at her cousins' house, but I was poking around online just now and accidentally fell in love with this one, and it's so expensive and now everything else is going to seem to boring! Why!

Other ideas: backpack, fish

We are looking at a swing set for Ronin.

Yeah doll houses are awesome but can get so fancy and expensive. She will be able to play with them for years though, the better quality they are.

A backpack is a good idea too. We are getting one for him for his birthday that is on Friday. He uses dh's and puts his toys and water cup in it.

For xmas the things on our list that we are putting on layaway this weekend after his birthday (to see if he gets any on them as gifts) is a red wagon, a beginners tricycle, a play tent, and a tball set

That doll house is sooooo cute!!! Fish are a great idea also. I need to get a backpack for Evan, his diaper bag got too worn.
Wendy, that sounds like a great gift.
We are doing this kitchen, which I just realized has went up on price since we bought it. I've got some extra M&D food picked out that I have not bought yet. He has some books, puzzles, and I'm sure we will get a pair of PJs. Oh, I just remembered, DH bought him a toy lawn mower and I got some "tools" for his stocking. Some of that may be birthday also, I haven't decided. I need to quit buying!! I start a little early and I think that makes me go overboard!

Leigh, you have expensive tastes like me. Lol

Aiden's santa gift is a M&D train set I got for $30.
He's also getting a few books, a new puzzle, a Cars "my first" remote control car (clearance for $7!), a Mr Potato Head, M&D dino magnets, 5 dino play toys (he was showing interest in that and now not so much, so we'll see how it goes over - at least I only spent $11 total on the magnets and dines), and 2 Cars talking cars (a $4 clearance find).
Stocking is 2 Curious George DVDs (there's a coupon for $3/2 and they're just $5 at Target), pack of crazy straws (.10 total last summer), a weird light up ball, and one of DHs old wallets filled with fake cards.
He'll get new PJs Christmas Eve.

I want to wrap everything NOW but DH won't get the wrapping supplies out of the attic. Blum 3

ETA: My husband set aside $200 for Christmas and I spent $84. I asked if I could buy more diapers and wool with the rest. ROFL

lol way to budget with an alternate plan Jackie!

For the past two years we have also gotten him one of those hallmark books where it comes with a stuffed animal that reacts and responds to things you read in the book. He loves them! other books go into his stocking too. We all open one present on christmas eve and it is a set of pajamas that we wear that night.

Ooooo! There's one last gift I want to get Aiden now - a set of slippers! This kid loves shoes so slippers for the house should be perfect. Now to find a good deal. Lol

We have bought a toy shopping cart, books, a toy cash register for Olivia. Other ideas I've had are more Duplo blocks, a toy purse, those hard plastic animals, My little pony, Mrs. Potato Head (we already have Mr. so DH vetoed this one), Calico Critters set.

Other ideas that we already own - doctor/vet kit, train table/set, play kitchen, easel, construction vehicles, dress up clothing

Lol, he's like my daughter-she loves shoes so I got her slippers for her birthday. She loves to stomp around in them and now she has something she's allowed to wear in the house since we have a no shoes indoors rule.

I have so far purchased a wooden train set (on clearance last year from walmart) and these Amazon.com: Melissa & Doug Wooden Doughnuts: Toys & Games

I want to get her a toy ice cream set because she asks for ice cream a gazillion times a day (she calls everything sweet ice cream) and instead of telling her "No" constantly, I will pull out the toy ice cream and say "this is the ice cream, that's all we have right now, just pretend!" I am also thinking of getting her a magnetic alphabet set.

I like the dollhouse idea too.

We're doing slippers, a toy dyson vaccum, fishing game, Barbie doll, a remote for kids (on amazon, they have 7 buttons that will be pre-programed channels), grocery cart, new markers, stickers and a medical kit.

I like doing a lot of little gifts than one big one. I do the same thing with DH too.

Tobey is getting a balance bike and a few other bits and bobs like more trains, drawing stuff, duplo

I'm going to try to follow this rule:
1 thing they want
1 thing they need
1 thing they wear
1 thing they read

Although, with it being Christmas we will probably do 2-3 things they want. And this doesn't necessarily include stocking gifts.

Their joint santa gift might be a dollhouse. DD1 wants a horse stable lego set. She'll probably get an American girl doll, too.
DD2 might really like those Calico Critters? I don't have many ideas for her yet.

I like that a LOT. Not including stocking, and probably one big and a couple of little "wants" Smile Although all she REALLY wants is cookies.

I like that rule. Although it'd be : chips, diapers, shoes and a parenting magazine...at least this week that's what would fall into those rules...

ROFL

Adair's would be cookies, toy organization, socks, and a book about either animals or babies. Preferably both.

Lainey's wants include goldfish crackers, gummy candy, and all other things containing sugar. And duplo blocks. And playdoh.

So for the bday gift we ended up getting her a ride on pony. Kid loves it. My parents got her this Minnie Mouse set that is a drum and inside it holds a recorder, tamborine, harmonica, etc. It's surprisngly not that noisey and it's her fave by far.

I ordered their first Christmas gift. They're getting this dollhouse: http://www.amazon.com/KidKraft-65054-Chelsea-Doll-Cottage/dp/B003ADVR3S/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1351188463&sr=8-3&keywords=doll+house
It will be a joint gift for all 3 girls (including baby). It will be their santa gift as well.

I love that dollhouse! I can't wait to get one for Zoe one day. Smile
I have 90% of Christmas wrapped now. Just need to get DH to get down gift bags and boxes from the attic to finish up. And I should go ahead and get both sets of parents and my sister taken care of soon.

Ask and ye shall receive!!!!!! Addy's cousins have a really nice natural wooden dollhouse that they never play with (and she ALWAYS does whenever she goes over there), and finally agreed to pass down to her for Christmas!! I'm going to clean it up and paint it (at least partially) so it looks like a new one, and get some new people for it, and: VOILA!!!

This does mean it can't be from Santa, though, since I don't want to confuse the girls. Smile

It's similar to this:

So I think adding some splashes of color will be easy and perfect!

Nice deal. I would def add some color to that. Could you Mod Podge some scrapbooking paper on the walls to make it look like wallpaper?

Ooh, GOOD idea! They always have books of scrapbooking paper at Ross for cheap, too.

This is the one I wanted to buy, and I think I can do something really similar:

My husband has it in his head that Aiden needs a fancy play set outside like the one Christa has for his big Christmas gift. I'm trying to convince him to wait it out till next year and make it a combined gift for them both. This way we can save up for it like we do everything else. Not to mention there is a FREE small toddler set that we can get from my SIL that was offered to us when we moved out here in the spring that DH is too lazy to get!!! :banghead:

Since we have so many toys with two older boys, we limit Christmas gifts to just a couple per kid. I have a plan to get John bristle blocks as he always gravitates to them at the museum and other people's houses. He loves to build towers with the wooden blocks so I think this will be liked and new!

That's annoying, Jackie--combining for next year (or even the year after) is a GREAT idea. There's a playhouse I'm head over heels in love with that I found on a huge sale but it was still crazy expensive and...she's two. Maybe next year.

Told DH he can't claim I spoil Aiden anymore. B/c I am definitely under budget for Aiden's Christmas!!! DH? totally not with this new idea. *sigh* He thinks he can use his 2 week paternity leave (whenever that will be lol) to assemble a play set and put up a fence! HA. HA.

Picked up a brand new Step 2 brand easel for $30 at a local store today. And a Graco doll set for $25.
Yesterday at the flea market I got 5 wooden puzzles (1 M&D) for $5. They all look brand new, one still in plastic even.

How many of you all do play-doh with their LOs now?

We do playdough. Hubby has some he bought when the toy shop in town closed down put away in the cupboard for Christmas.

All I need is to find all the santa sack gifts, pick up a ball and the swing set and we are done for Christmas. Gift wise overall just need to finish pricing capsule coffee machines for my Mum and find something for hubby, everyone else gets a Santa photo once we get them done

Aiden LOVES playdough. We do it at least 3 times a week right now. It's 45 minutes of a busy quiet toddler at the kitchen table. lol. Though I just make homemade dough for him to play with rather than buy actual dough. I give him these dough tools and a several plastic cookie cutters (from a large 100+ piece set).

my kid hates playdough. home made anyways, he doesn't like it all sticking to his fingers.

You ladies are way ahead of me!!! so far I have only gotten him two pairs of pajamas, and an alphabet wooden puzzle. My baby nephew is all finished though Smile

I just got Adair this super cute backpack with gnomes on it (handmade--at the store where my SIL and I sell our stuff)...she is really into the idea of having a backpack, and I figure now that all she really needs is like an extra pair of undies and her water bottle when we go out, sure kid, carry your own stuff! I want to get Aiden one of the cute Skip Hop zoo backpacks. But that'll wait till a present sometime next year if I ever find a good deal on one. He's getting one of their lunch boxes (got it 70% off at Target lol) for Easter. Figured it would be good for park trips, beach, and such.

I'm having some serious struggles with consumerism this year. Smile Made worse by the fact I can just click and buy on Amazon and Zulily.

So far T's getting:
More wooden blocks.
Additional train tracks for her train set
2 super cute T shirts
Undies with spaceships on them (seriously, how could I NOT?!)
A set of hardcover Christmas books
A purple hooded coat
Her first pair of black Mary Janes

Oh, and I convinced myself it was OK to buy 2 dresses & a night gown in size 3T because they were a good deal. I'm not sure if she's getting those for Christmas or not. Zulily is DANGEROUS!!

I also need to order:
A playdough press
Some slippers ... will look on Etsy
Some more books

I plan to get stocking stuffers at the upcoming street fair. Guaranteed, at least 60% of it will be from Leigh's booth. Wink

LOL Erin! I was so proud of myself for being way under budget and now DH is 98% set on buying the same swing set that Christa has. Yes, seriously. I'm beginning to wonder if it's more for him because he wants to play in the fort. It's not in the kid budget so his power tool money he's been saving up for is going to be his swing set money. The man is seriously giddy about this.

I'd be giddy about a swing set too. If he wants to take it out of his power tool money then give him your blessings!

Word to the wise: Do NOT look for little girl's slippers on Etsy unless you want to spend a good hour convincing yourself your daughter does not need $50 slippers.

Okay, but that's totally adorable, Jackie, you have to admit Lol

Yes, Erin, zulily is the devil! I bought so much the other day! All those great deals add up.....!!! Oh well. None of it is stupid crap that will get played with once and then just gather dust, which is the main thing I'm trying to avoid.

And yay for customers! I'm so nervous about the street fair...I made some really cute bottle bag/toddler purses (like Adair's) so that would make a good stocking stuffer... Biggrin
