Eating in a restaurant

How do your little ones eat at a restaurant? Do you give them a bowl or plate or do they eat off the table? Lucas has been eating off the table, but i am afraid to give him a plate or bowl in case he throws it. i just feel weird when he eats off of restaurant tables even though i wipe it down first.

I don't give her plates because she's still not trustworthy enough with them. I just let her eat off the table. I figure if its not the sort of place where its OK to eat off the table then its not the sort of place where its OK to bring a toddler Wink

If we give Lyla a plate or bowl she will pick stuff out of it and put it on the table. She has also been known to fling a dish to the floor without warning, so she eats off the table or we just hand feed her off our plates. She never eats enough to make it worth purchasing her her own meal so she generally gets some of whatever we have anyway. I do order her a child size water with lid and straw. She LOVES that.

We have one of these: Tiny Diner Placemat.

It rolls up and goes right in the diaper bag.

We've used it a couple of times and it works great.

Lurking from the Dec. 10 board...

I use these -

They work perfectly! We carry them in our diaper bag and I usually find them at Walmart, Target, Babies R Us, etc. You just stick them down on the table and toss them when you leave. Our local Chick-fil-A offers them free for toddlers by the ketchup and such.

Aiden eats all of his meals on a plate or bowl now. No issues. If picks it up it's because he's done.

We do have one of those tiny diner mats. Mine never ever lays flat and the suction cups don't work. I hate it and don't use it.

We had a tiny diner mat with DS1 that I used all the time. DS2 just eats off the table after I wipe it down with hand sanitizer. We use plates and bowls at home but I don't use the glass ones we get when eating out JIC they fall and break. He broke a soy sauce plate at sushi a while back and I felt so bad so no more of those for a while.

Did I get a bad tiny diner mat or something?! Cause people keep saying they love them, but it seriously doesn't stay put in the least bit and all three sides that fold in don't lay out at all.

I give him a plate. But he doesn't throw his plate at home so I don't think he'd do it while we are out. Actually we are taking my mum out this afternoon so I'll let you know Smile Usually he's asleep when we eat out lol

We give Ronin a plate. If it's a dinner meal I try to be organised and bring one from home which is plastic. He doesn't tend to throw them, however I would hate to be out and he do it for the first time. I am enough of a freak I even keep a spoon at all times in the nappy bag, I need to upgrade to a spoon and fork though.

We don't eat out much, but dd loves to eat off my plate so I would just give her bites off my plate with my fork. For finger foods, I would probably spread out a napkin and put the food on that.

Wait.....ya'll wipe the table down first?!

Clara eats off the table or she will throw the plate immediately upon getting bored and has in the past gotten our table neighbors. I'd pretend like I wipe the table off but surely you guys know me better by now so yeah, she gets plopped in the hi chair sans fancy hi chair bring along cover and we throw food in front of her like a zoo animal but hey, she likes it and it gets the job done Smile
