ERG!Cant stop drinking caffeinated beverages!!

Hey ladies
I'm not normally a big caffeine drinker. I dont drink coffee at all and only have the occasional tea. But right now I'm craaaaving caffeinated stuff! And I wanted to quit because it seems to make my pressure go up!! I'm not craving like having headaches or withdrawal or anything, just the taste for some reason!!

This morning I had a tea, now Im having a pepsi with lunch! AHHHH!!!! WHy?!?!? Before I was pg I would have tea maybe once a week and if i drank pop it was sprite or another noncaffeinated one!!! I feel so guilty drinking this stuff daily since I'm pg!!!

For some reason I think these drinks make my nausea, which is still persisting, a bit better so that is part of the reason!! But I want to stop!!! Sad

How much caffeine did you/are you drinking while pg!!?? Make me feel less guilty please! Smile

Aw, I'm sorry...cravings are hard to fight!! I only drank one regular sized mug of coffee a day when I was pregnant (but I absolutely had to drink that!) plus I took a half dose of Excedrin migraine when needed (on doctor's orders), which is about the equivalent of another half a cup of coffee.

Are you sure it's actually the caffeine you are craving, or is there something else about those drinks that would also be found in other uncaffeinated versions like root beer or Sprite or some other type of sparkly fizzy drink? I lived on seltzer with juice.

But don't beat yourself up. Do the best you can. A little caffeine here and there is probably better than a lot of stress over avoiding it!

"Experts have stated that moderate levels of caffeine have not been found to have a negative effect on pregnancy. The definition of moderate varies anywhere from 150 mg - 300 mg a day." A regular can of coke has 54 mg. Stressing over it is probably doing more to your blood pressure than the drink itself. http://www.cspinet.org/new/cafchart.htm

Oh Mona- I craved fountain cola like crazy when I was pg with Madison. It also helped calm by nausea as well. I would usually do 2-3 cans per day. I drank hot tea a couple times a week too. I drank caff. throughout my whole pregnancy. I know people refuse to do it, but my OB wasn't worried and neither was I.

Mona, Leigh may be right that your stressing about caffeine is not good for the pressure either. How about decaf coke products or tea? While TTC with Evan, we went caffeine free with everything at the house. I still got the taste of coke and tea (I couldn't tell a difference) and the carbonation can help with nausea.

Ummmm I drink something caffeinated at least once a day. I managed very, very little caffeine in the first, but when the headaches hit me big time in the 2nd tri I started drinking caffeine with tylenol to make it through the day. Now I fear that my body is a bit addicted to having caffeine that whenever I go without I get horrible headaches. I tried no caffeine 3 days last week and by dinner time gave up and had some with tylenol. Most days I have a small cup of coffee in the morning. And then some days I just WANT a soda or ice coffee or something. I'm trying to knock out the morning coffee this week and let's just say 2nd afternoon in a row with a horrible headache. I'm about to break out the cold coffee in the fridge so I can make some iced coffee for my sanity. Blum 3 Beginning to think I should just say F it and just choose whatever caffeinated drink I want and enjoy it. My main concern is the extra calories I don't need followed by too much caffeine.

Yeah, I think diet tastes like butt too. I honestly can't tell a difference in the taste of regular vs. caffeine free.

ROFL ME THREE. I don't drink soda very often, but only for health reasons--I like the taste of Coke a lot. Diet, though, is SO NASTY. I really don't understand how people drink it.

Also not much in food scares me more than artificial sweeteners.
