Flu Vaccine Question:0)

Hi,
Josie is getting all of her 6 month vaccines (she is on "schedule")
Can she get her flu shot then too?
*We will be having a ton of get togethers...(thanks to my MIL:mad:) And there is a huge party w/ tons of kids...some of which are ALWAYS sick!!! seriously. always.
I don't want her to get sick...there are tons (200 people party) that are flying in...

So, just curious if I can "add" that on?
Is she old enough...I can't remember...THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If my memory serves me right, they need to be at least 6 months old to get the flu shot, so if you want it I think you can get it. Smile

Thats what I was thinking....can you get it w/ all the other 6 month shots or does it have to be separate?

Yep. Teagan got a flu shot with her 6 month round. I wasn't originally going to get it but ever since she had a febrile seizure, I've been worried about anything that might cause a fever (like the flu). If anything, it'll keep her from bringing it home from daycare and getting us sick :p.

Babies can get the shot starting at 6 months. However an additional shot will be required in 1 month and full immunity won't happen until a few weeks after the 2nd shot. (2 shots are only needed for the first time). Being that it is April and it will be well into May before full immunity would be achieved, it may not be worth it. My DD turned 6 months the end of Feb and since it was so close to the end of 'flu season' I chose to wait until the following fall to start. If she is otherwise healthy and not immunocompromised at all, I would probably wait.

If you choose to get it, make sure that the office has enough to give both shots. Sometimes the end up running out of vaccine come this time of year.

I know my DD got her 1st flu shot along w/ her other vaccines, but I don't remember how old she was. I remember I didn't really want to get it for her but her dad really wanted her to so I agreed.

PP had a good point about it being the end of flu season. I think if I get Luke's I will wait until next fall/winter.
