Formula moms

Is there a formula that doesn't taste absolutely, unbelievably disgusting? I have some samples and I mixed some up and put it in a sippy cup for Lyla. I can't pump more than an ounce or two anymore and don't want to 'waste' BM in a sippy she won't finish. Anyway, it smells amazingly awful and tastes worse. Its like rancid BM x10!

I am considering weaning her soon, but I won't be able to if all formula is that awful.

Well, in the 21+ years I've been feeding formula....I haven't came across one that tastes or smells good. That's just how it tastes.

Not sure when you are considering stopping BF but we are slowly now transitioning to whole milk for Delaney. Only whole milk or juice in the sippy cup for us. It was really easy when we moved Miranda over to sippy cups only too. She was off the bottle at 12mo.

Ashley,, I agree. That kind is for babies who have a harder time with the regular and that one smells the worst. Used to make me gag when I used it with my daycare kiddo..

I dont think there is really any formula that isnt going to stink. You can just try it and she might get used to the taste..

Ummmmm, DD1 had Enfamil and I totally wanted to barf when I smelt and tasted it... however we are using Similac Grow and Go (Stage 2) and well, I've tasted it and I didn't think it was too bad to be honest... Blum 3

I wonder why don't they make it taste good? If adults wouldn't drink it, why do babies? BM is super sweet.

I also wonder this about some of the jarred baby foods. I went to a baby shower once where one of the games was to guess what flavors the foods were. People were passing them around and some were tasting them and everyone was saying "These are disgusting!" and I thought "why do we feed this to our babies then?" That was the moment I decided to make my own purees. Smile

We use Enfamil A+ and it is disgusting, but Tristan doesn't seem to mind - he's used to it. Soon enough they will be on whole milk and that tastes a whole lot better Smile

This is my point exactly. I don't want to feed my child anything I would be completely unwilling to eat/drink. I've tasted every puree I've fed her and if I think it's disgusting, I don't feed it to her. She's starting to have an easier time with chunkier solids all of a sudden, so I'm working in more of those. I've also started using whole milk for her oatmeal and she hasn't had an issue, so I might just start integrating more whole milk slowly.

But breastfeeding, anymore, has become a huge hassle and time suck. It's just this crazy monkey wrestling event everytime and it has to be in her room in the nursing chair or she can't focus long enough to effectively nurse. I can't pump worth crap anymore either, so I don't have milk for the nursery at church or when we go out.

But I really think she's teething hardcore right now and so I'll wait a bit to see what happens with that, hoping the bottom teeth will pop through soon. But if there is no such thing as a decent tasting formula, then I don't think I can even do it.

I use Goodstart when I do give formula since I still mostly bf, and I've tasted it. I think it's the least ojbectionable of the ones I've tried. I've tried Similac, Enfamil, Nutramigen and Alimentum. The last 2 are dairy free ones and definitely the grossest!!!!

Wow, I had no idea formula tasted or smelled that bad. Do you want to wean her completely or just wean her during the day? She still needs the goodness from BM or formula for a little while longer but even just two nursing sessions/bottles of formula would probably be OK. You could cut her down to nursing just in the morning and night and transition her to cow's milk during the day. Or, if she'll take 4 or so bottles per day you might be able to cut down the ick factor by giving her half cow's milk half formula.

She still nurses about every 2 hours all day and seems to be in no hurry to slow down. I had thought to start by weaning her during the day, but I won't give her formula that nasty. The whole breastfeeding thing is becoming more of a hassle than a help and I thought maybe she would take to solids better if I started trying to wean her. I don't really know what I'm doing, I'm just kinda mucking through. . . There are a million little reasons why I kind of want to wean.

I found this when we were away with my Grandfather in hospital, because we were just grabbing food on the run there wasn't really much I could feed Ronin so I bought some baby food and it was so gross. There was no flavour at all. We came home I whipped out some of his veggies, mixed it up and tasted it and so much more flavour.

Yea I bought jarred strawberries once and they had absolutely no flavour!! It was gross. I just bought a mesh feeder and put strawberries in it. I think he enjoyed this much much more.

We use Similac cut 1/2 and 1/2 with cow's milk these days. She's also eating tons. Have you tried any kind of BLW? Maybe Lyla's like Charlotte and would prefer to feed herself pieces of things instead of eating from a spoon. I know some of the other girls are doing this too....

Also, Once the babies hit 9 months they can use the Step 2/Toddler formulas and I think they're lots less offensive flavor and scent wise.

HTH!

The others are right, they all taste and smell gross. We use Gerber Good Start, which isn't 1/2 as bad as the hypo-allergenic Nutramigen that my DD had to have. That stuff was truly disgusting! Lucas has never complained about the taste though, and I know it is the best thing for him right now since I'm not bf anymore. I'm hoping to switch to cow's milk at 1 yr though.

And I must be the only one that doesn't think jarred baby food is disgusting. It is just veggies and/or fruit, tastes fine to me. I actually really like some of the fruit blends, it's just like eating really smooth applesauce to me.
