I've had a crazy busy few days. Of course, Saturday was the epic toddler bash. It went so well. It was hectic at first with trying to rush around and get all the food on the table as people were streaming in but then it was smooth sailing. Teagan had such a great time.
On Sunday, we went to breakfast with my Dad & his GF then we all went to the zoo. Teagan was a tad disappointed that the elephants were hiding but was consoled by some duck feeding. After that we went for a swim at my Dad's hotel. Teagan now thinks that the hotel my Dad always stays in is his house. She'll yell "Baba & Bubby!!" every time we pass it. After the pool we went out for dinner and Teagan was freakishly well behaved. My Dad has some sort of spell he casts over her. She even ate something we ordered specifically for her!! The table next to us commented on how well behaved she was. It was bizarre eating a meal next to her without her jumping in and out of my lap and nursing every 10 minutes.
Today was a Jewish holiday so I took the day off and stayed home with Teagan. I got all the cleaning and laundry done that hadn't been done this weekend. I did some homework. I took Teagan to the library and then Target and then got it into my head that I'd tidy up the front lawn in preparation for putting up our fall/Halloween decorations. I stopped at the local nursery and picked up a few flowering plants. When I got home I had Teagan "help" tidy the xeroscaping, prune our front tree, and plop the new plants into pots (that's how we garden in Tucson). It looks so much better. Then I took Teagan grocery shopping. I'm beat.
Anyway, that's why I've been MIA.
So on the PTing thing ... you realize that I've probably had more piss & **** on my floors than all of you combined, right? Yes, Teagan is now day trained but that's at least partially because we've been ECing part time since she was 3 weeks old and that mostly entailed letting her run around diaperless starting as soon as she could walk. Its a different path and one that only parents without carpets should ever attempt.
And having a "potty trained" toddler isn't the dream you might think it is. It means I have to be vigilant about when she's last peed & pooped. I have to always have a bathroom route planned in advance. It means a lot of squatting down in nasty public restrooms. It means taking 2-3 times more trips to nasty public restrooms. It means not being able to drive with the radio on very loud just in case someone should whisper "poop". I still have to help her up onto the potty. I still have to wipe her poopy butt. It's really about twice as much work as having a child in diapers. So, don't be so quick to envy me. ;)
Wow, that's a lot Erin! Busy to say the least.
Aiden can't decide if he wants to use the potty or not. We're having more and more days where he's keeping his diapers on. And then he'll randomly have a night like tonight where he demands underwear and he uses the potty. Honestly I prefer the diapers because it's not easy helping him use the potty and wash his hands. I wanted him to be done with diapers but the bigger I get the smaller my motivation gets. ;)
Anna, she knows what's up with the potty now. I'd take a step back and wait for a time when you think you can "reset" her. I bet she'll train very fast as good as she was getting - as soon as she gives up her toddler control and stubbornness about this! ((hugs))
all that right there is exactly why i am in no hurry ;)

Erin, you make me want to throw away Evan's potty. :p
I know she had some time off work, was she traveling? Maybe away from the computer?
Thanks Erin for making it not seem so awesome after all. That is such a big girl step forward though. Glad she behaved so well this weekend!
Anna don't worry about Lyla. She'll get back to it once she realizes its not so evil. Like Jackie said, she knows what it's all about now.
My kid will sit on it, and "pretend" to go but she hasn't figured out exactly what goes in the potty yet.
Yeah...I am not looking forward to the work of having a PT'd toddler ...but for lots of reasons I think it's time to take the plunge (among other things, it will be way easier to do in summer clothes than winter clothes, and before that 3-year-old-level defiance kicks in!). To those of you taking a sanity break, though, good call. That's what we have been doing the past 3 weeks and I think all of us are feeling a lot better about the whole endeavor. I'm a little worried that she still seems totally unconcerned by sitting in poop, but...we'll see. She's showing all other signs of readiness.

DH is thrilled with the new method.
The good part with the alarm, though, was when she woke up at 5:10 (we set it for 5:00 for now, to set her up for success!), she cried out once but then she must have seen the green light because she got out of bed herself, opened the door (we left it cracked for this purpose), and stood in the doorway calling "Mommy? Daddy?" which is a HUGE improvement over waking up and screaming bloody murder in her bed until someone comes in. She was pretty excited about the green light and thought the whole thing was awesome, so...I'm taking it as a win. It's not like she woke up early and waited for the light yet of course, but it's a good first step!
So I just got my IUD this morning, WOOP WOOP! No oopses here...and no waiting if we decide to take the plunge next year. Win-win! It was seriously uncomfortable, but not nearly as painful as I remember it being when I got one 2 months postpartum. That was bad, this was just ugh.
yeah, this is Olivia too - sits on it, thinks it's cool, but has no idea she's supposed to pee in it! LOL
