Help with baby name!!!

I'm stealing Jackie's idea for help with baby names. We aren't finding out the sex of this LO. Here's the names we have in our family, DH is Scott, I am Christa :), DD1 is Andrea, DS is Grady and DD2 is Clara. We have a pretty decent list for girls names for this LO but only really have 2 boys names on our lists and they're not names either of us just loves. I prefer names that are common but not popular. I also like names that are spelled like they sound, no craziness Wink

Girls list for reference: (Mae is the middle name for sure)
Maggie
Delilah
Katie
Ella
Annie

Our only 2 boys' names are: (no middle name yet either)
Noah (my pick)
Augustus - but Gus is what we'd call him (DH's pick)

some names from past lists are: (most of these actually got too popular around here for my liking now)

Cord
Brooks (DH dislikes)
Finn
Max
Tucker
Cooper

So, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! One name that I absolutely love is Grayson but since we already have a Grady, DH won't hear of naming the next one Grayson. I am completely in love with DS's name so it's hard for me to think of any boys name that could come close to it, it's not popular, only a few in the county, and it's an old style name which I love.

ETA: I should also add that I am extremely picky about knowing someone with a particular name already and I know LOTS of people and have tons of family already so that limits my ability to pick a name substantially.

awww I love that your are going with Mae as a middle name for a girl. that was after your grandmother right?

i hope you don't mind my honesty!

i do not like Delilah as i always think of the song "hey there delilah" which i find really annoying Blum 3 do you like Dina/Dinah?

LOVE Ella and I think Ella Mae sounds cute. The rest are cute too but I like Ella the best.

Noah was totally my top pick but it got too popular and DH vetoed it so I like Noah Wink

Augustus not sure, but Gus is cute

I also like Brooks and Finn!

I went through SSA list starting with rank 1,000 and found names that I think are fairly normal. lol. Though I have to say that I really like Noah.

I really like Delilah with Mae. I find some of the other first names to be great until paired with Mae....then it sounds very southern to me. Basically, my issue with my mom harassing me with Lee.

Stella
Olivia
Ava

If I'd had a baby girl in my teens or early 20's her name would have been Dinah Raine. I was obsessed with it for years. I still like Fiona, too, but apparently I'm the only one.

Boys:
Liam
Ian
Isaac
Keller
Garret
Gavin
Elliot
Nolan
Ezra (it's Kole's middle name and sometimes I wish we'd used it as a first name)

I'm sorry, but I don't like Augustus and when I hear Gus all I can think about is a fat mechanic with his butt crack showing. . . sorry.

I like Tucker and I really like Cord - it was on my list. You could also do Cort or Cordell.

Fiona was on my name list, Anna! And Gus screams fat mechanic to me too.

See, this is the only problem I have with team green. You have to come up with 2 rock solid names!

Of your girl names, I like Delilah Mae. I like the name Noah. It would be on my list but DH wants to stay away from Biblical names. I think the fact that he's Israel Jacob and his brothers are David Josiah & Barnabas Joseph might have put him off Biblical names.

Let's see .... names from my working list that might fit your scheme ....

GIRL
Alanna
Avery
Elyse
Leyla
Liana
Paige
Reese

BOY
Carson
Dillon
Garrett
Harper
Maddox

Janice- yes, Mae is after my grandma and it's also my moms middle name! How did you remember that!!!??? I absolutely love it as a middle name. I contemplated it as a first name but it doesn't feel like it has enough weight to it as a first name.

Delilah is actually my top pick for girls. my MIL recently informed me that I can't use it as she knew a girl named Delilah once and she wore her glasses upside down and was odd. If you knew my MIL that would actually be a little comical because she's not one to ever say anything bad about someone and I was shocked as sh!t to hear her tell me she didn't like that name. Maggie and Ella are DH's top two. I'm in love with the name Delilah but I do also like the other's on the list.

I wasn't sold on the Maggie Mae or Ella Mae at first but the more I hear them the more I like them but they are VERY southern type names.

Boys:
Liam - lots of those around here. it boomed recently
Ian - family member
Isaac - hmmm
Keller - popular last name here
Garret - lots of Garretts
Gavin - one of my BFF's sons
Elliot - one of the names on the top of my list, just used for my 1st great nephew Sad
Nolan - the last name of a ritzy family here in town
Ezra (it's Kole's middle name and sometimes I wish we'd used it as a first name)

If we had a Gus, we would have Gus and Clara.....anyone get it?!?! Lonesome Dove!!! DH loves the name Cole but we have two fairly close friends with kids named Cole. He likes it because it's a John Wayne reference Smile

Well over half of those names are family members for DH or I. Are we related????!!!! Smile I do love the name Benjamin but it's been pretty popular here lately. I do like Joel, hmmm. I might have to add that one to the list.

And Anna, Stella and Olivia were both on my original girl list. Stella got taken by friends of ours. Olivia was DH's aunt and godmother and I honestly have no idea why it fell off the list. I might have to ask him about that one cause I honestly can't remember. I know it's a pretty popular name around here so that may be how it got cut.

Probably not, but I am the youngest of 10 Smile Joel is actually Benjamin's dad and the first of my nieces/nephews that I remember being born - I was 9. The top 5 J's under my nephews are brothers.

Maggie Mae reminds of a song. Someone mentioned Finn which is nice, but is getting really popular. Between Noak and Augustus i prefer Noah.

Names on my curent working list
Girls
Abigail Jacqui ( or Jaqueline hubby needs to confirm this as it is his choice from his family)
Willow
Ruby ( my chanves of Ruby are slim to none, it is on our middle name list though)

boys
Robert ( on our middle name list, if our next is a boy he will be something Robert).

I'll dig my baby name book out later and come up with some ideas

You should tell everyone you know to stop taking your names!!! Wink

I think you should go with Delilah and Noah. (Says the girl who still isn't 100% sold on a girl's name because I keep second guessing myself. HA HA!)

I like Delilah and Noah too. Maggie Mae IS a song (well, Maggie May--Rod Stewart), and Ella Mae makes me think of the Dukes of Hazzard.

I considered Mae for a first name too. It's pretty and old fashioned in a good way.

I had Grayson on my boy name list for a while. I also love Noah except we have a friend with a son named that. Finn is WAY too popular--I have a nephew Finn and know at least 3 more. Let's see if I can find my list...boy names stressed me out so I didn't keep as much of a list as I did for girls. The only ones I can remember off the top of my head are Elliot and Owen.

You need to know less people, I think. Your name pool is getting severely limited!

I didn't memorize what everyone else already said, so I'll just throw out some boy names:
Evan
Logan
Marshall
Caleb
Levi
Owen
Justus

I really, really like Noah!
And I like Delilah is very pretty, especially with Mae.

I had sort of forgotten about Owen, that's a name I like.

And yes, the problem I'm having majorly is that between DH and I we know so many people and have too many relatives LOL! It doesn't seem to be affecting our girls name list so much as our boys name list.

I still just really like the simplicity of Noah. DH's middle name is Joseph. Would Noah Joseph work? I also really like the name Simon but DD1's horse's name is Simon. That totally sucks!

Noah Joseph sounds lovely (and biblical lol) to me!

I just saw another girls name that I like that i had completely forgotten about, Juliet. But it doesn't sound to me like it goes with Mae.

And yes Jackie, I am really being wishy washy. I just wish I had a bigger boys name list to choose from. I would prefer to go into this with around 5 girls names and 5 boys names so I can decide after having him/her. I don't necessarily need to nail down just 1 boys name, I need more to choose from!!!

Robert John is bil's name, hubby, bil and their dad all have the same middle name and hubby refuses to use it, it's a strong family name on both sides. Robert is from both sides as well, we have decided all our kids will get middle names from the family, sometimes it narrows first name choices, because in my family esoecially most people use family names so we have a small pool to pull from

Okay, so I know I say this every time names come up, but have you tried Nymbler.com? You put in names you like and it comes up with name suggestions that are stylistically similar. You have to scroll through several pages of suggestions, but you'll see a lot of stuff in there that you might not have thought of. The best part is that you can put in names you like but can't use for a weird reason like knowing a horse with that name Wink Just for kicks, I put in Noah, Simon, Finn, and Grayson. Here are a few it came up with:

Riley
Graham
Elijah
Jude
Brogan
Mason
Asher
Milo
Nolan
Hayden
Weston

Go play around! Good for filling out a list, anyway...

Maybe I was going to put it on the list but then didn't because its the name of a television character? But seeing as I can't remember who Asher is now, I can just pretend I heard it from you. Tada! Problem solved. Except it doesn't go with my chosen boy's middle name. Argh. And my kids would be T & A.

I think by the time potential girl is old enough for others to taunt her name that song will be long forgotten. It wasn't nearly as popular as a lot of other name songs in the past have been. And at least it's not about a gun, stripper, etc. lol
I honestly didn't even think of the song.

I have to agree with Janice that I don't like the Delilah song either - way too overplayed around me!

Some ideas that are less common (at least where I live):

Mayleigh
Peyton
Sage
Amelia

Sawyer
Theodore
Leighton
Evander
Preston
Jasper
Hudson
Gideon

I'm with Janice, I really don't like Delilah either. It makes me think of an old kid's song that was on a tape of silly songs we had when I was a kid, and sounds a little too Southern for me, especially with Mae. (Yes, too Southern for the Georgia girl :)). I think Ella is my favorite, also my grandmother's name, so I might be a little biased. My friend has a little Maggie whose name is actually Margaret. I like the way Margaret Mae sounds and you could still call her Maggie, a little less Southern.

I like Noah but not Gus.

My lists:
Logan
Zachary
Bryce
Evan
Ian

Amelia (Mia)
Elaina
Victoria
Charlotte
Lucy

There is a female actrees over here with the first name Asher, so you could just choose Asher and have a win for both possible outcomes

Charlotte is the projected #1 girls' name for 2012 Wink I only noticed that because my SIL has the WORST luck with her kids names becoming ridiculously popular after the fact. Her kids are Finn, Ellie, and Charlotte...so basically this generation's Jason, Jessica, and Jennifer. None of which were super popular when she named them (well, Ellie is really Eleanor, for BIL's grandma. But the others were just choices of names they liked)

Oh no, poor SIL! That is a silly fear of mine after I have a child. I end up watching the newspaper for birth announcements like a crazy stalker trying to make sure the name I pick doesn't all of a sudden explode in popularity around here Smile

we are absolutely no closer to a boys name. i really think Noah is probably going to be the name but I'm still on the lookout for more. I've told DH that Gus is off the list, I saw two kids in the last week in the grocery store who's mothers called them Gus and we have at least two acquaintances who have kids named Gus. haha! I stress so much about name popularity, I can't help it. My SIL was throwing names out at me and when I told her I really don't want a popular name, which is all she was coming up with, she was baffled that I would even care, and I was baffled that she didn't care, it was quite amusing.
