how do you dress yourself/ progress pictures...

sounds like a dumb question I know.. I am clueless when it comes to clothing. I am sure I could put something together if I had a ton of money and could just go and get anything I wanted. Am I weird that all I wear is blue jeans and black t-shirts? lol.
I ask because I do have a cute black skirt that I finally feel comfortable wearing out in public but I could not for the life of me find something that matched it. I tried goodwill but, again I just kinda looked at everything kinda clueless. lol.

I guess I will also post my semi progress pictures.. I still have a lot of work to do, but I am getting there.. the healthy way...

you look awesome!!!! Biggrin

no, it's not weird. I think it would be more weird if you tried to wear clothes you didn't feel comfortable in.

i'm not an expert, but if i had a black skirt i would probably wear some kind of bright coloured tank top with it. depending on the skirt. is it fancy? or more casual and how long is it? black is good, because you can wear any colour with it. plus it hides stuff Wink

Ditto to what Janice said, You look fabulous!!!

If you are not comfortable in what you wear, then don't wear it. Jeans and black tops are just fine if that's what makes you comfortable. At least you know what you like. For the black skirt, I agree with Janice....any color can go with black. If one tank top doesn't make you feel comfortable, then layer it. It does kind of depend on the dressiness of the skirt, but any color would be a go with black.

ok, i went and found some examples Lol it doesn't even have to be these colours or design, they are just examples depending on the skirt and what your style is

this one you can wear a tank top underneath, either white or black. black might look better with this colour because it is bright

if you have a top that is a little plain you can always wear a necklace with it Smile

You look great! So much healthier looking! Smile

I'd pair a black skirt with a printed top or a brighter solid top and a pair of sandals. Just don't go too long on the top or it might look funny especially if the skirt is shorter.

Ditto what everyone else said. You look fabulous! I'm the worst person to ask. I dress like a slobby grad student most of the time. I go for colorful tops and neutral pants so that everything matches. Is there a Buffalo Exchange nearby? They're much choosier than Good Will about the clothes they take and I always find it easier to find pants there. Pants that fit are so F-ing hard to find but having a bunch of brands in front of you makes it a lot easier. Shop the deep discount racks at Kohl's or Target. And don't worry about buying an entire wardobe, especially since you're doing such an awesome job losing weight and you're bound to loose more. Just buy a few pieces that you feel comfortable and pretty in!

You look terrific! I suck at clothing advice, I wear the same 5 outfits to work every week. For variety, I might change the order of days on which I wear them Smile And my go-to dress down outfit is blue jeans and a black tank top, so I hear you on that! With a black skirt, I agree any color would work well with that. I love black skirts and pants because I can just change the top and I consider that a new "outfit" without having to get another skirt/pants to go with the tops.

Thanks everyone Smile I am weird.. I think it is because I have always been very self conscious.. my go to color has always been black.. works in my favor that most rock band shirts are black Smile I need to post a picture of my skirt.. it is black, light fabric and it has tan-ish white flowers on it (not old lady style flowers lol).. I never thought to add a bold color.. or even tan may work too.. thanks everyone for the advice. Your links were really helpful Janice. Smile

Erin yes that is why I am trying goodwill.. they are pretty expensive though.. I need to check out the other resale shops in town.. maybe that would work out for the weekend. I also need shoes.. I almost got some at goodwill but dh vetoed them because they were too tall and looked too ho like.. I think it was just weird for me to be taller than him! haha!

I live in workout pants and tank tops, and they don't always match. Since I'm taller, a lot of pants are a tad short on me so I look ridiculous. To counter that, I have cut off a few of these pants at the knees. Some have holes and others have paint stains. I need new clothes so bad it's not even funny. And right now I have to consider that I need to be able to nurse in any clothes I wear.

My clothes from my working days were generally grey and black that way it's easy for me to look half decent since I have very little fashion sense at all. My only suggestion would be to try on everything, even if it's a style that you don't think you like - it might look great on you.

You look amazing. Good work! I am jealous and inspired!

You look awesome Ashley!! Way to go, your hard work is paying off for sure.

I am the wrong person to ask about clothes. I wear scrubs at work which require little thought, and I'm a jeans and t-shirt girl all the way. Do you have a TJ Maxx or Marshalls there? Brand new clothes and usually a decent price. You might check them out Smile

I totally agree that dressing yourself sucks. I'm a jeans and tank top kind of girl, but I can't wear that to work so I like casual dresses because then you can just put on one thing and be done--no worrying about matching! Finding ones that don't make me feel too dressy or "ho-like" () is a bit of a challenge, but once I find them I wear them until they die. Honestly I wear most things until they die--I still have some clothes in my closet from high school (15+ years ago now...)

Goodwill can be pricey, especially for used clothes. Do you have a Ross near you? Ross clearance racks are a great place to find basics for really cheap. It's hit or miss depending on what happens to be there, of course, but any bargain shopping is like that.

If you're really most comfortable in jeans and a black band t-shirt, though, maybe take it slow and just try getting a couple of basic shirts in a more girly cut that still look cute with jeans. That way you'd feel fresh and new but not completely outside your comfort zone. Then, once you're feeling good about that, you can take it up a notch to skirt wearing. Baby steps! Smile

You have done a fantastic job! Smile

My "uniform" is jeans and a shirt most days. Though I'm having to branch out this summer with dresses because it's too hot for a pregnant woman to stay in jeans. I have "fancy" shirts for going out, t-shirts for inside the house, t-shirts for going out of the house, etc. A nice pair of shoes and a dressier shirt makes jeans doable most places I ever go. Don't try and reinvent the wheel with your self look if you don't want to. Just find yourself 1-2 nicer looking shirts to wear out. Day to day life as a mom doesn't demand fancy. Just clothes without 100s of stains and rips. Ha ha.

Because i work i have a big wardrobe, some days i need conservative for court, others i can play around a bit ( today i am thinking tshirt dress, tights and boots or tunic dress tights and boots) jeans are out at work except Friday. Weekends i like to look a bit more fun but often it's jeans and a shirt or a skirt and top, though i have a few dresses I want more, but they are so hard to find cute ones that work for just chucking on for the day. I also have a few " hippy" skirts as hubby calls them which i love. I am pretty eclectic and have way too many clothes and really need to do a cull.

Ugh, me too! My wardrobe has almost no consistency and probably looks like it was assembled by a drunk person. I used to threaten to get nominated for "What Not to Wear" on purpose just so I could chuck it all out and start fresh.

I would love that as well, someone else to choose clothes that flatter and give me style and pay for them. How do i nominate Smile
