How many...

Ok ladies, I know we've had this discussion before, and I'm pretty sure I've asked it awhile back, but I've got to ask again Blum 3

To all the momma's; how often are your LO's nursing or having a bottle? To all the FF momma's or the momma's that pump; how much are your LO's drinking at each feeding??

I was talking to a friend and she said her baby (same age as ours) only drinks 3 bottles a day and more than not is sleeping through the night...

I am going to write down each time I feed Sophie now, and see how often she eats 'cause it seems like she is constantly hanging out on my boob - LOL Blum 3 Not that I'm exactly complaining... She just ate now for 7min, so we'll see how long that lasts for her. She's such a distracted eater tho, it's like she barely makes it for 3min before she's popping off to see what else is going on around her so it seems like she's not really filling up, just enough to keep the edge off... And if she's having a bottle, she's only drinking 4-5oz at one feeding; which is the same amount she's been drinking since forever now! I thought she'd be drinking more than that by now........

I'm starting to think about weaning; but I'm not 100% sure just yet. And it's all for selfish reasons too, so that makes the decision that much harder. It's just that lately I've been feeling like my body isn't mine anymore; ykwim? Like, I haven't gotten fully dressed in the last 7 months w nursing because most of my clothing is not BF friendly. I wear my bedtime tank tops all day long because they are the easiest, I can just pull the neckline down and feed away. But I can't do that w my rest of my clothes. I end up having to yank my whole shirt off and if that's the case, I can't do that while I'm out cause then I'm sitting around topless!!! I guess I'm not feeling 'normal'... I'd love to get up, shower, get dressed and stay dressed for the entire day wo having to re-dress myself every couple of hours...

Ok, rant over! Biggrin

i totally get it! that isn't why i stopped bfing, but i was the same always in pajamas or tank tops i looked like a slob lol.

lucas normally eats about 5 bottles a day...between 27-32 ounces. most nights he will sleep a full 12 hours or get up once. Right now it's a little less because he is sick. He rarely eats a whole bottle in one sitting because he gets very distracted. I can maybe get a couple ounces into him and then try again 20-30 minutes later. The only time he takes a whole bottle is right before bed when i have him in a dark and quiet room.

He feeds (boob) 4 times a day. First thing in the morning (a long feed) then a snack mid morning and mid afternoon then another big feed before bed. He is soooooooooooo distracted during the day I might just start substituting boob for real food like I did for DS1 at this age. He had fruit instead of milk mid morning first then when he was about 10 months old I did the same in the afternoon. The only thing stopping me is ME. I want him to be a baby longer so I just keep feeding him even though I'm pretty sure he's not that interested any more.. Sad

Natalie sounds similar to Sophie. She probably is still eating every 3 hours and still nursing at night. She gets distracted alot but I wonder if FF babies get distracted the same way??

I remember at one point I was ready to have my boobs back too. I think it was around 9ish months.. Good luck with whatever you decide to do..

Hmmm.... My boys snack a LOT. At first I thought it was because I'm trying to feed two of them and just don't make tons of milk (although that could be part of it) but they're just SOO distracted all the time they almost never stick around for a long feed. I think, on average, about 6 feeds a day each, plus at least 3 overnight. But most of those daytime feedings are super short, 3-4 minutes max. They do get a bottle or two of formula and they're just as distracted with that, so I don't think it's the BF, just the age. And Micah wouldn't take more than an ounce of his bottle last night before bed but nursed well so I guess he got enough that way. If they skip a nursing, they also take just 4-5 ounces. I don't think either one of them has taken more than 7 ounces ever. My DD was FF by now and she regularly took 8 oz (esp before bed) and she was a FAR better sleeper. Wonder if there's a connection? lol

I can't really say with Clara because we are having some issues. But with DS, he never ate more than 6 oz. He weaned around 9ish months or maybe it was 10 months, I'd have to count and I'm too tired to right now LOL. He took bottles for another month or a little over. Towards the end of nursing he was down to just nursing 2-3x a day and it was very short. He was wayyyyy more interested in food and his sippy cup of water than drinking milk (formula or boob juice). But after he stopped nursing I encouraged him to take some bottles just because I felt like he was too young not to. He took them, but didn't care for them and never took over 6oz a few times a day.

When Clara gets a bottle she only takes 4 oz and seems satisfied with that.

I was just getting the itch today to get my boobs back. Pumping at work will be the first thing to go. Maybe in two more months? I'd like to keep the morning and night nursing like I did last time.

My DD has 5 bm feedings a day now:
7 am - nurse about 10 minutes
11 am - 6 oz bottle of bm at daycare
3 pm - 6 oz bottle again at daycare
6 pm - solids
7:30 pm - nurse about 10 minutes
9:30 pm - sleepy long nurse - almost 30 minutes

(I think DD1 maxed out at 6 oz per bottle at daycare.)

DD gets easily distracted as well.

DS nurses more now than he did a month ago. I remember at his 6 well baby visit telling the tech that DS nursed for 5 minutes 8 times a day. Now I'm lucky if he'll nurse a full 3 minutes before being done. He wants to eat every 2 hours around the clock. Like once a week he'll go 6 hours at night, but usually it's every 2 on average. So 12 times in 24 hours. I've pumped a few times recently (hand pump, just one floppy boob) and I've gotten around 3.5 oz each time in about 4-5 minutes. I'm assuming DS does a bit better than a pump would, so let's say 4 oz. I'm pretty sure he's getting on average 40 oz a day because every time he feeds he gets at least one let down, even during the 3 minute feeds. I've pumped trying to get him to take BM out of a sippy. He will take it too! He won't drink at all at once or anything, but I'm no longer afraid of leaving him and wondering if he'll just starve. DS is doing a lot better with chewing and swallowing solids. He's definitely consuming more than he was a week ago! But he's BFing is still WAY up there.
As far as nursing wear goes, I have two undercover mama tanks that I'll wear with my one usable nursing bar when I'm going to be out and in close proximity of people when nursing. This way I can lift up my shirt from the bottom and not feel like I'm exposing my back and side. Around the house I wear a sports bra or a regular wire free bra and just lift up the shirt and bottom of the bra (couldn't do this when I was engorged, but those days are long gone). I don't own any nursing clothing. There are a couple of pre pregnancy shirts that I don't wear though because they don't stretch enough for me to lift it up and over my boob without taking out an arm too. I figure a small inconvenience with BF is a lot better than buying bottles, pumping, and washing them (at this point there's no way I'd buy formula - I'm way too cheap for that).

This for me! Exactly! When I give her BM in a bottle she only has about 3 to 4 ounces and then she's done. I wear strappy tanks and pull the strap and bra strap down to nurse. I have a couple of terrible nursing tanks (wal-mart) that I use rarely. I pretty much look like a beggar woman all the time. My hair is always up in a nasty, messy ponytail, my "fat clothes" are stained from always being spit up on and just generally being old. . . wow, I'm in bad shape over here! Anyone wanna buy me a spa weekend? :sillywink:

I'll buy you one if you buy me one Blum 3 How does that sound Blum 3 HAHAHAHA!!! Biggrin

This is me too Anna, I'm wearing stained dirty pj's all day. My nice clothes are sitting pretty in my closet, as I said, they are very much not BF friendly. I own 1 nursing bra, and it SUCKS, so I wear a sports bra that I've had for like 3-5years. It was actually going to be tossed, but I had forgotten to do it... So ya, I've got on a thin worn out bra, a pair of paint stained comfy pants (cheap yoga styled pants for like Wally World) and a tank top that also has paint, butternut squash & spaghetti sauce stains all over it. My hair is not done, I haven't even showered today, and the only makeup I'm wearing is mascara I put on yesterday... Sad I feel frumpy and gross... I just think, why bother to put on nice pants when I've got a crap tank on? Or like, why bother to do my hair or makeup when the rest of me looks like a homeless person?? UGH!!! It's sooooo depressing!! That and I feel like there's no point in getting 'dressed up' (which to me, is a nice pair of jeans and a t - like I don't mean fancy, but I'm kinda a label *****... LOL...) if I'm just going to sit around in the house all day; ykwim??

But I feel bad when I think about weaning, because I feel like I'm doing something terrible to Sophie.

Let's see, it is 1:53pm and so far Emma has had...3oz. She used to drink a full 8oz right after she ate her solids after each meal but not she has drastically dropped to either nothing or 3-5oz post-meal. She has her three solid meals a day and a 7-8oz bottle before bed. So she really isn't drinking much milk these days.

And we are formula feeding, btw.

_______

Okay so by end of day she had about 13-14oz total of milk.

Ronin has between 15 and 18 oz while at daycare over 3 5-6oz bottles. Child health keep telling me he has to have more, but he is often not even drinking all of those( hence the varience in amounts). At home he snacks all night, and I really mean all night, he still nurses over night between 2 and 5 times. I feed him when we get home around 5:30 which is usually about 15/20 mins, then he gets solids about an hour later, then nurses again on and off and in varying lenghths of time until about 10/11pm when he goes to bed, and then all night.

Anna and Stacy- have I got a deal for you. How does Mexico sound LOL?! There will be a bunch of fun people! I rarely get out of my "gross" clothes cause pukey mcpukester stains everything I have so I'm not taking the chance with the good stuff. I know I've let myself get lost in the shuffle and I'm not taking enough time for myself. I need a pedicure so BAD! My roots have grown out so bad I may unknowingly end up on Jerry Springer. And as an aside, holy 1980's ellen degeneres, my new hairs are growing back in so I look like I'm sporting a short hair do along with my normal shoulder length hair do. Like I can't make up my mind so I'm just doing both. Anyone else with the regrowth from he!!??

We are formula fed here. Evan drinks about 30 oz per day, with 2 separate 5 oz baby food feedings. Alot of the feedings during the day are in small amounts. He also tends to get distracted alot. He eats a whole 6 oz bottle at bedtime and one when he gets up. Those are the only full ones he eats.

Are you kidding?! If I run my fingers through my hair after a shower I still have a whole handful of it! Mine is still falling out!

No idea what that Justin Beiber stuff was about ...

Our "schedule" is so random. I honestly have no idea how much Teagan nurses. Sometimes she'll go 3-5 hours. Other times she'll nurse a few times in 1 hr. She's just starting to get a hang of eating solids pretty well. She's very distracted during the day but isn't showing any signs of wanting to give up the boob.

As a grad student, I'm expected to look like a homeless person. If I were to dress any other way, my advisor would think I'm not working hard enough and give me another grant to write. I wear tank tops most days in part because they are easy to nurse/pump in but mostly because its 100 freaking degrees outside. My hair is a disaster. It finally stopped falling out in huge globs in the shower about a month ago. Now its all stringy and gross so it lives in a pony tail. It's almost long enough to cut and donate so I'm just going to stick it out until the end of the summer and then cut it really short.

Yea that was crazy spam!

Simon breastfeeds about 7-8 times in a 24 hour period I would say. He takes max 4 ounces of formula before bed, often much less/none depending on his mood. He only does one feed at night max and this one is usually a long good one, as his diaper is soaked in the morning and often leaking. During the day he has really quick feeds, like a few minutes max, with maybe 1 or 2 of them being longer.

And yes, he's veeeeeeeery distractable!

Oh yeah, add me to the unkempt club! I've just given up on all of that for now, and am really pretty happy if I can go less than 3 days without a shower. Aren't you glad you can't smell through the internet? lol

I totally understand those of you who are nursing and miss the convenience of staying fully dressed (without regard to nursing-friendly clothes), etc. But after what happened to my boobs after i weaned my DD, I am in NO RUSH to wean the boys!! I will really miss my nursing boobs!!!! And I will also miss my nursing diet, which consists of me eating whatever I want, whenever I want, as much as I want... and I weigh less now than I did before I conceived my first child! I think my metabolism is like it was when I was in high school! I'm in no rush for that to end, either. Biggrin So yeah, there are lots of inconveniences (someone should start a thread with all the crazy places they have nursed - on a trolley going through a convent is near the top of my list lol), but there are definitely perks.

Luke is all ff now. He usually takes 4 bottles/day, but sometimes only 3. I give him 7-oz bottles, which he will almost always finish the morning one, but leave an oz or two in the rest. I hate giving him less though b/c wouldn't you know EVERY time I give him a 6-oz bottle he gobbles it up and screams for more. So anyways, total he probably gets between 18 - 28 oz a day, just depending on his mood. He also gets 2 meals of solids/day, usually 2 full jars of fruits and veggies and a little cereal. He seems a little distracted while eating now, but I can usually get him to finish the majority of a bottle before he's off playing and crawling again. He STTN every night.

We are formula fed here. 4-8oz bottles a day. In between one of those feedings is a 4oz jar of baby food and she usually eats some of my dinner too.

Odin is nursing like every 2-3 hours but only started with solids about a week ago. Dh gave him a bottle of milk I thawed out last week and he only drank 3 of the 5oz but I don't know if thats his normal amount or not.

I'm totally living out of the same 2 nursing tanks, and 5 nursing friendly shirts each week. I have to deal with parents (clients) everyday in my home so I've gotta pretend to pull it together but I'm seriously over looking like crap (IMO) all the time. Totally have temper tantrum days where I want to throw in the towl on nursing, but then I remember how much work bottles were when DS1 stated using them and think about how much Odin loves his "nana's" and try to move out of my funk. There are days though when I am sooooo over it as well.

Yes, what is up with all the tiny new hairs I have growing back??? Christa, I've been sporting a headband like an 8 year old kid all week because I look crazy with hair to my waist and all theses little Ellen hairs on top!

Ruth--I keep thinking I should have kept a journal of all the places. I've got some really odd ones too.
