So there's someone on the local craigslist that is selling a crib. I can't decide if I want to go look at it tomorrow and possibly buy it. What should I do?
Lyla climbed out of her crib once already, but we were able to lower it another 2.5 inches and she hasn't done it again. We tried transitioning her to the toddler bed (and DH even built a nice toddler bed frame and headboard), but she isn't ready for it right now. I'd like to transition her soon and then start potty training after so that she's potty trained by age 2. But I just don't know if she'll be ready.
She's teething right now (after not getting a single tooth for the last 2 months) and is throwing a fit before every nap and before bedtime. Tonight I put her in the crib and she threw a tantrum, once I walked out of her room she settled down and fell asleep within 2 minutes. If she'd been in a toddler bed, she would have followed be right out of the room and would even now be whining and crying next to me on the couch.
I don't want to get a second crib and then her be ready for a toddler bed soon, but I don't want to NOT get the second crib and need it because she still isn't in a toddler bed by the time Kole outgrows the bassinet and needs the crib. I also don't want to waste DH's hard work that he put in building a nice toddler bed.
HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!I can't decide!!
I think you should try to find one of those cribs that converts to a toddler bed.. That would solve all your problems..

The one I have does convert to a toddler bed. I asked DH to build a toddler bed because I was excited about setting up my nursery after Lyla climbed out of the crib, thinking we would be able to transition her to it quickly. Wrong. Now I have one crib and one toddler bed, but I think I might need this crib to stay a crib and get a second crib for the next baby. . . .
Can you tell I'm an erratic pregnant woman or what!?
Well, the good news is you have several months before you need another crib and there will most certainly be other cribs on Craigslist. Did you use a crib right away with Lyla or did you use a bassinet at first? If you use a bassinet or a co-sleeper then you'll have even more time before you need a crib for Kole (BTW, so happy you're sticking with Kole for now, I like it). The bad news is I can't tell you a thing about how to get Lyla to sleep better. What does she do when you put her on the toddler bed? Teagan always nurses to sleep so I have no clue how to put a child to sleep in any sort of crib or bed without nursing. My advice is to wait a bit longer. There will be other cribs and by the time you need it Lyla might just be ready for a toddler bed.
It would be cheaper to buy a toddler bed than a crib, and it would be cheaper to buy a toddler bed then to make one.. So if you want to set up the nursery buy a toddler bed off craigslist, and use the crib with Lyla until the last possible moment. Then switch..

First thing, don't panic! There is time still!
Kole can be in the bassinet for a few months plus the 4 months you have left of pregnancy, so that pushes her so much closer to age 2 than it seems right now. She will change so much in that amount of time. If you have a pack-n-play or travel cot you can even use that longer if it is really needed. Also there will be loads of other cheap craigslist cribs that come up before you really really need one. She will be able to use that toddler bed that DH made for a long time as well, even if she doesn't move into it until age 2. Still set up your nursery for Kole just minues the crib that will go there later. You can always put the toddler bed in there for now as a space holder.
We cosleep for the first 6 months before I test out the crib. I'm thinking that Odin will be moving to the bottom bunk in DS1's room at this point but if he isn't ready then we plan on keeping him in the crib and have LO stay in a travel cot we keep in our room while cosleeping. Its hard to picture Odin being in a twin bed now but I know he will change so much between now and turning 2.

I agree with the others. Don't panic yet! Especially if you have a bassinet or portable crib, you won't need an actual crib for quite a while. I don't think Lainey slept in her crib until she was about 6 months, and even DD1 didn't see the inside of her crib until she was 4 months. There's time!![]()
Thanks ladies. I think I just saw that crib (a nice one) and that that if I was going to get a second crib, here is my opportunity and freaked out a little (thanks, pg hormones!). I even called my mom at 10pm last night to see what she thought, since DH's advice was, 'whatever you want'.
You are right. If we end up needing to keep Lyla in the crib past the time Kole is ready for it we can always get one then. So I think it's best to wait for now. I just freaked a little about giving up a good deal on a crib, but as DH pointed out, you can't see the scratches and dings in a picture and we'd have to see it in person first before deciding to buy it anyway. So I think I'll just let it go. We do have a bassinet that Lyla was in for 3 months, but could have likely used it longer. We also have a pack-n-play. Actually, when I think about it this morning, it all seems rather silly that I was so obsessed with it last night. Y'all are gonna get so sick of me and my raging hormones! There are times when I imagine DH is ready to commit me already, and it only gets worse before it gets better.
Oh, and we've decided on Kole. DH finally decided that was the best choice for us. We both really like Eli too, but DH doesn't want there to be 2 or 3 other kids in his class with the same name and Eli is fairly popular. I told him that if he really loved the name Eli it didn't matter how popular it is, but I also hinted that I liked Kole just as much and it's not as popular.
Here is the thing about Kole. We both like it better with a K, but if we spell it with a C, his initials would be CEO.![]()
The good thing about crazy pregnancy hormones is that they pass. You'll be crazy about something else tomorrow. Just give yourself a rule, you're not allowed to act on the crazy unless its been bugging you for a week. I really like the name Kole! Deciding spelling is so hard. I wouldn't worry about his initials though. There are worse initials than CEO. I had a really hard time deciding how to spell Teagan's name. Teagan isn't the traditional spelling and I always used to make fun of people who used the Americanized versions of names. However, I felt like people would constantly be mispronouncing her name if I spelled it Teghan. I guess that's also because Teghan is actually pronounced TAY-GUN. I much preferred the sound of TEE-GAN so we made the decision to spell it the way we thought the most people would get it right.
