I hate doctors

So Kole woke up from a dead sleep just SCREAMING. His leg was swollen and red so I called the ped's office thinking he must be having a reaction to a shot. Dragged Lyla and Kole up there by myself for the second time in one day. Waited 20 minutes in the waiting room and and hour in the exam room while my great and happy baby screams and screams. Doc finally comes in and looks him over. Then she tells me that he's hungry and sleepy and to go sit in that chair and feed him. And then she left.

OH HELL NO! Not okay. Not at all. :grouphug:
I wanna go and punch that doc for ya!!! Of course he was hungry THEN, but if she had listened she'd know more was up.
Is it at the injection spot? I wonder if he has an allergy/sensitivity to something in one of the vaccines. Sad

WTF? I guess they don't teach bedside manner anymore. Is it red and swollen just at the injection site or is it more than that? Teagan didn't react well to her first rounds of shots. Her injection sites became quite swollen and red and she was clearly in a lot of pain for a day or two. She was not a happy baby after her shots and she was quite the happy baby otherwise. Its pretty normal though. Did your doc mention giving him any pain medicine? I gave T baby tylenol and was really careful not to touch her legs. It sucks but it passes.

That's what I was thinking, Jackie. He's still fussy now, but obviously better and the reaction wasn't severe, I guess. But she could have just told me that instead of asking me about when he last ate and slept and then insisting that I sit down and feed him. So maybe I overreacted, but it was completely abnormal behavior for my easy baby and I was very concerned, or I wouldn't have dragged my 2 kids back up there again.

I am so freaking over doctors. I wish I never had to deal with another one again. They killed my dad, wouldn't let me have my VBAC and they NEVER take me seriously when I'm worried about one of my kids and talk to me like I'm some halfwit instead.

Just red and swollen at the injection site and he's obviously in a lot of pain from it. His little bottom lip quivers when he cries and he totally freaks when I touch or move his legs. She did say the that the redness was not out of the realm of normal and she did tell me to give him Tylenol at the end of the visit after she told me that I needed to sit down in the chair in the corner of the room and feed him. I was floored that she was convinced he was just out of his routine because of his morning appointment and that he needed some boob and a nap. He's been way more out of routine than that and never screamed like that. Lyla never had a reaction like that to her shots, so this was totally new to me.

Those injections are suppose to go into muscular tissue and since Kole is chubby, they may have not used the right needle so didnt get in deep enough thus getting only fat. That would be quite painful and cause, swelling. But it's only temporary and he still will absorb the vax. I've seen it at the hospital in adults and it can be painful. You could try a cool compress for relief.
Sorry that happened. Sad

Poor little Kole!

I hate most drs, too. Some are awesome, but they are few and far between, at least in my experience. I think sometimes they view us as "patients" and forget that we are real human beings with fears, emotions, and yes, even intelligent thought.

...so what would have been so hard about saying THAT?! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

You have really been dealt an extra bad hand with the medical profession in your area, too. SO frustrating! Is there anybody else around you could try?

Oh Anna, I'm so sorry. That is completely awful!! Not acceptable behavior at all. I hope Kole is feeling a bit better.

Oh man I would be pissed off too! Sounds like your doctors are as good as ours around here! It is so frustrating having to deal with a doctor like that. I would be switching if there was another practice around me.
I still need to switch their doctor but haven't needed to take them. We have a awesome childrens after hours clinic near me that I usually take them to, took Chloe Sunday actually. Of course those doctors do not have their own practice, unfortunately.
Sorry they were so insensitive. I would have done the same thing! Hugs.
