I have a shop lifter on my hands

We went to a toy store this afternoon. Juliet grabed a toy penguin and took off running. She even got out of the store.
I grabed her, and brought her back. I made her give the toy to the lady. I put her down, and she grabed a stuffed Hello Kitty and took off again.

The first time was cute and funny. The second time was anoying.

Adair shoplifted a bunny from the dollar store once--she was in the Ergo and neither me nor the checkout lady noticed she had it! I didn't see it until we were getting in the truck way across the parking lot. Sigh.

Rowan has made numerous shoplifting attempts. She kind of understands now that we have to pay for things, but there is one particular toy store where she tries to grab and run. Once, when she was 15 months old she desperately wanted a doll stroller and she ran for the door with it. I intercepted her, put it back, and carried her out of the store with her screaming and kicking. She fought me until I put her down, then she escaped, ran back into the store (which was quite crowded, and she was dodging between people's legs), made it back to the doll stroller and tried again. Dh ended up catching her and carrying her out, and I gave in and bought the stroller. When I brought it out of the store, Dh was holding her and she was screaming and kicking - I felt sorry for him, he looked kind of like a kidnapper or something. She didn't calm down until the stroller was in her hands.

It's still one of her favorite toys.

Those are some good stories.

Ha! We're raising a bunch of hooligans. I'm pretty lucky in this department. When we go into a store, I can give Teagan something to play with and then ask her to put it back and she usually will. If she doesn't, I can get her to hand the thing to the cashier to "pay for it". I don't know how much longer I can keep up this charade. She's never left a store running. She's not very fast.

And I gotta say that Rowan's got good taste in toys to steal. Teagan quite likes that stroller.

That's how we are too most of the time, Erin. I also don't let her walk in stores unless she is being REALLY good and staying right with me. The minute she starts touching things and not listening, she goes back in a cart (or carrier), and she can scream all she likes: only girls who listen get to walk.

I didn't expect her to grab something out of a high bin from my back, though! Lol

Little stinkers!
I let Lainey walk in a store ONE TIME. She didn't try to steal, I just couldn't get anything done because she refused to stay with me. So she doesn't have the opportunity to shoplift. She usually likes to hold something while I shop, then she hands it to the cashier when it's time to go.

I once saw a mom use her baby to shoplift. I probably should have said something, but I was young and didn't want to get a mom with a baby in trouble. Anyway, the mom would pick out the colors of nail polish she liked, then hand them to the baby. She would make a big deal about taking the nail polish away from the baby, but while she was doing it she'd drop more polish into the baby's stroller.

That is just pathetic. I guess some people will do anything.

Ugh, that's wrong for so many reasons.

Aiden gets bored with most toys in stores, so he just hands them back to me while saying "all done!" I'm going to be extra, extra grateful for this for now on!!!
I also don't let Aiden walk in stores ever. He's either in a cart (where I let him inspect most things I'm buying before he puts them in the cart for me or I make the first stop be the toy department where I pick out annoying battery toys for him to play with that he gets bored with after 10 minutes) or on my back. Even with the pain I have right now I'd still rather have him on on my back if I had to go to a place without carts. Mainly because I can't run as fast as he can some days. Blum 3
I do have to watch him on back back because he does like to steal stuff off of shelves. And not the colorful kid stuff either. No, he grabs the breakable stuff like glasses, picture frames, etc.

Teagan once grabbed a glass half & half container out of the cart from on my back and dropped it to the floor. I was so freaked out. I was like, "Where the F did that come from?!?!" That taught me to be more vigilant about her grubby hands when I'm BWing.

I'm sorry but these stories are way too funny! I do not dare let my children walk, and Trevor is 4. They run off and try to put everything in the basket. Chloe likes to push the basket but she doesn't understand there are other people in the store and tries to run them over.
I once saw a mom using her kid to steal too. She would take the wrapping off of baby bottles and hand them to her baby like the baby already had them. It was sad. The manager ended up going over there and talking to her. I think everyone noticed what she was doing.
