Meat!!

so we are not huge meat eaters, we eat chicken and pork but hardly ever beef unless it is hamburgers. Lucas' pediatrician said we should be giving him meat now so for those that eat meat, has your LO had any? how do you give it to them? i am not cool with pureeing meat (ew! lol) so i was either going to buy some organic jars if they exist or give him little pieces. since meat is kinda tough can they handle pieces yet? anyone given pieces to their LO?

I give Ronin meat, he has had roast pork, chicken, roast beef, meatballs etc. I just give him chunks of what we are eating.

I also have given chicken ground beef and ham. Steak pieces are too tough for nate right now. I am excited to try fish which i will be doing soon.

We don't eat meat but I have seen baby organic meat meals at the grocery store. I bet he'd do really well with really tender chicken in chicken soup or chicken salad. I'd steer clear of meat in a jar though. I smelled one once and it nearly made me puke. I'm a vegetarian and all but I still like the smell of good meat (BBQ season tests my resolve hardcore). That was not good meat. Don't feel too pressed to give him red meat. Babies under a year don't really digest it anyway. It won't hurt them. It'll pretty much just pass right through.

We don't eat red meat at all or other meat very often, but when we do, we give Rowan little bits. She has tried grilled chicken, ground turkey, swordfish, and halibut. For non-meat proteins, she loves almond butter, refried beans, and marinated tofu. She actually opted for the tofu over a fresh peach the other night at dinner.

If you cut the meat into small enough pieces, its fine without pureeing.

good to know, meat in a jar does sound nasty lol i was hoping tiny bits of meat would be easy enough for him to handle:)

If you're concerned about mercury you should stay as far away from canned tuna as possible.

ok, the spammer was random...

Anyway...He has organic jars (I started making my own food but I don't have the time really with DS1 as well Lol

I totally didn't give DS1 meat and now all he'll eat is ham. It's so frustrating. I'm trying desperately not to make Tobey a fussy eater too. When he does have what we are having I just give him small chinks. It's soft so he just gums it to death Smile

I could never bring myself to feed DD1 the meat in the jars, so I stick with veggies and fruits when it comes to purees. Her first meat was deli sliced meat cut into small pieces. My kids are generally vegetarians until they are bit older. And even now, the 4 year old is not a big fan of red meat, so she pretty much will only eat chicken as a meat source.

Aiden has tasted pork, chicken, and beef. I only give him meat if it's well cooked at home and doesn't have junk all with it. He eats chicken but makes faces with it. He does well with shredded chicken that falls apart. He loves the taste of beef, but won't eat it (just licks it lol). He's had shredded pork.
My mom gave Aiden some canned chicken. Smelled horrible and tasted not so great to me. So I dumped the rest of it out before Mom could give him mom of that junk.

Yes the jarred meat is nasty!! DS wont touch it. I havent really tried any other meats besides that in the jars when its mixed with veggies, which probably isnt much meat at all. I'm still paranoid about him choking since he tends to jam things in his mouth, take too big of pieces/bites.

We're having chicken tonight though, maybe I should try him with some little pieces.

Sophie has had chicken, ground beef, crab and pork... it's all just been what we are eating... she has tried spaghetti, so that's how she got the ground beef. Chicken and Pork were just in small chunks and crab was in a seafood pasta... she seems to be doing really well with it so far; especially for still having no teeth!! Biggrin
