nail cutting

how is this going for you ladies? it is a nightmare for us! Lucas hates having his nails cut and screams and wiggles and i literally have to hold him down to do it. I have tried doing one at a time and giving him a break, i used to make fun, loud noises when i did it and that worked for awhile but not anymore, i have also tried letting him do it to me but he isn't really interested. anyone have any fun ideas that work? I have this thing about nails and I HATE long nails on guys or nails that are dirty lol. I usually cut them once a week on weekends

Wow. You can actually manage to cut them once a week?! You're like super mom. I think I've successfully cut Teagan's nails like 3 times in the last 9 months. Once she actually just let me do it while she watched. Other times I've had to do it on the sly while she's nursing. She's constantly pinching and scratching me with her nails. Drives me nuts but I can't get her to let me cut them without a serious fight, which I simply don't have the energy for.

I chew them whenn he is nursing and only do it when I see they are longish, I have tried everything and this is the only thing that works

I used to chew Simon's nails when he was a NB but now I cut them. About once week. I have to because they get so long. I do it after a meal when he's still in his highchair. He fights a bit, but we have a big plastic holder on it that's white and orange and he wants to play with it. So I'll cut a nail or 2 then let him play with it for a few minutes then cut again. As long as he is in an ok mood he usually lets me do it. keeping him still in the highchair is key though.

It's a pretty serious battle here too. I cut them at least once a week because if I miss a week she has serious claws! She's got to where she'll let me cut the first few and then she'll start trying to take away the clippers and then she'll start bucking and thrashing trying to get away. I've tried to make it a game and talk to her and all kinds of things, but those only work temporarily.

this might sound silly but i have two sets of clippers. i hand him one and he'll pretend to do it himself. he still gives me a hard time with his toes because he is ticklish but for the most part it will keep him entertained. i watch him the entire time so he doesnt injure himself.

not silly!!! i have two sets as well but i have never tried giving him the other one. Erin, i have to do once a week because he has claws and uses them. i keep hoping he might get used to it since we do it so frequently but no luck yet

We have issues too. Ryland was never like that and would just sit still but not Odin. I manage to do them like once a month and that involves DH holding him down and me clipping. Its usually a 2 session deal to get all the fingers and toes done.

I should be cutting them?! Oooooo..... ROFL

I cut them once DH complains about them being longer than mine (so about once a month, maybe a bit longer lol). Aiden will mostly sit still for 2 nails, so I do 2 nails at a time over a day. I'd prefer him to always have short nails, but it's not really worth the fight. Every other time I cut his toe nails.

oh, the toenails arn't as bad except for the big toe. that one i have to cut frequently but his other toenails i barely ever cut because they don't really seem to grow? or they grow super slow.

Tobey doesn't mind getting his nails done. DS1 acts like I'm cutting his fingers off. So....I do his when he's asleep and have been doing for about 2 years. He doesn't even know Smile

My kid must be weird. She loves getting her nails and toe nails cut!! She also likes for me to paint her nails lol.
Trevor used to fight me as a baby though and he has out grown it. Sorry I have no tips but I think he will out grow it too. I think it is just weird for them.. once they are old enough to understand that it doesn't hurt they will be ok with it I think.
