Off work and BP elevated

Hi ladies

Well my spd got the better of me. My doctor took me off work. And today my bp was high even after I was sitting and resting for a bit. 130/98. Last appt it was 150/92 then dropped to 120/84 after I sat for a bit. No protein in urine though which is good. My doctor is seeing me in 2 weeks and if it's still up putting me on meds. Booo!!

When I take my bp at the grocery store it's always low, but I dont know how good their cuffs are. My cuff sucks and I cant take it at work now that I'm off.

Boooo!! I dont want to be induced again cause of high bp!!!! And i definitely dont want it to turn into pree or something!! It never did with Simon but it didnt go up until 36 weeks with him. I'm only 28 right now. Sad

:grouphug: You know the research and you know your rights. They can't make you show up for an induction. I'd see about having someone else you know take your BP at random times manually just so you have your own numbers when you're calm and at rest. THis way you have a better educated idea of what is really going on with you. Ugh. Really glad you have no protein and with luck you never will. Grocery store cuffs suck - at least in the US.
Remember I was told that I had hypertension when pregnant with DS. Not pregnancy hypertension, but hypertension as in I had it before pregnancy and didn't know it (I had very similar readings to what you're getting). Yeah, my BP since then with it being taken manually (they'd only use the cuffs with aiden) has been normal. Actually more like the low side of normal. So my hypertension cured itself? And it's not like weight loss contributed to it because I was up 15-20lbs from my normal pre baby weight when I got pregnant with Zoe.

Thanks ladies. I know the grocery store ones arent always reliable, but I'm actually measuring lower than i did prepregnancy on them, and they are consistent between stores (though I mainly just use the one place). I have my own cuff but its too hard to do it on myself manually. I check my insurance to see if it would cover one but no, I mean a better one. ERG!!!

i am swelling a bit too, but I know that is normal as long as it isnt sudden or severe. i still can wear my wedding ring so it cant be that bad right??

And see prepreg, im normally 130/90ish girl. Then for some reason when I'm pregnant I drop low, so really that reading today isnt crazy high compared to my normal. I also had more caffeine than normal today which really seems to affect me.

For my next appt Im going to have no caffeine and make the nurse let me sit for 5 before taking it. At the end with simon when it was high at the dr's office it was always normal when they sent me to triage because they would let me rest for 10 minutes. The nurses there even asked "why are you here? Your pressure is perfect." So maybe i just get nervous that it is going to be high, therefore it is high. you know?

You're thinking through this well. Definitely no where near time to panic. Smile Swelling can be normal pregnancy - wearing your rings still is a good sign though to me!

i have a home one and i get low readings at home, like 116/72. I even get light headed occasionally. i go to the Dr and it goes up to 139/80:rolleyes: maybe if you get a home one you can keep track of your readings and show it to them to prove it's not always high? that is what i have to do with my Dr.

Ya I want a home one. I have my own manual cuff but I have large arms so need a bigger one plus its a bit awkward to do it to your self manually. I dont have enough arms to hold everything. LOL!!! I might at least see how much a larger cuff would cost and can get DH to hold some things for me to do it. LOL!!

When you were pg Janice, did you ever have protein in your urine too? When did you get it? You were on meds right? When did they put you on them and how much?

i never had any protein, but Lucas was growth restricted I actually want to request my file and see if it was due to the bp or just a placental issue as he had a really thin cord.

Anyways, the midwife started mentioning concern around 30 weeks, and at 32 weeks i was passed over to an ob who put me on labetalol (trandate) the dosage has been changed so much, but i am pretty sure i went as high as 200 mg twice a day. i know that you can go much higher then that though it was probably just because i was close to the end. Regardless, my bp stayed at 140/90 the whole time even after i gave birth so I actually don't believe they have ever helped me.

I had blood pressure issues with both of my children. I started Trevor's pregnancy at 170 something and then ate my way to 230 lbs.. yeah, not very proud of that. I think that made my blood pressure much worse than it should have been, but then again I spilled protein with him too. Towards the end 39 weeks and some days I had to be induced because my blood pressure was crazy high and I was having the protein issues. With Chloe's pregnancy my pressure never went high, I was on meds the whole time. I started spilling protein around 36 weeks or so, but not enough to induce me early. I was delivered at 38 weeks and never once had a blood pressure problem (if I did, I don't remember haha) I only gained like 15 lbs with her, so from 225ish to 240. I think that helped my pressure out alot.
Food does CRAZY things to your body. Remember to watch your salt and sat. fat. Also exercise helps as well. My DH has blood pressure issues and I notice that when we slack on our exercise he is more grumpy and has bad blood pressure readings as well.
If you are already eating right and exercising excuse me.. lol.. You know with my recent weight changing issues I had to open my mouth about both of these things because these are ways you can help yourself at home Smile

Sorry to hear about the blood pressure! With DD1 I was put on moderate bedrest at 28 weeks. Resting on my left side with no work controlled it very well for me, and went into labor at 38 weeks on my own.

The best things I can recommend is drink lots of water, rest on your left side as much as possible, and eat a high protein diet. I also take omega 3 fatty acid supplement (DHA and EPA) and my midwives suggested 2000mg calcium/1000 mg magnesium supplement daily. I actually find that the calcium/magnesium has been really helpful with my BP. I also tend to get the sensation of a pounding heart while pregnant, and after starting the calcium/magnesium this problem has gone away entirely.

Best wishes and KUP!

Interesting about the pounding heart! i've really been making sure to up my protein intake and take calcium supplement and I haven't noticed any fast heartbeats at all in weeks! I have them occasionally pregnant or not and been told that it means nothing for me, but still always makes me paranoid. Maybe I should be watching this stuff more closely when not pregnant too.....

BTW Kristi, I can't believe you're almost to 20 weeks!!!

Let us know how it's going Mona. Smile

That's great! And if you don't need caffeine, that's a good one too. Lucky girl. I get migraines without at least one cup of coffee in the morning.

Ugh. I drank very, very little caffeine during the 1st tri and the first half of the 2nd tri and now I have to have something caffeinated every morning (I usually choose a small cup of coffee) or I will get a very horrible headache before lunch that just will not go away. Whenever I try to skip days it goes very badly. Pg.org posted an article about how all caffeine is bad and can affect the baby and you shouldn't have any while pregnant this morning. Really annoyed me. Blum 3

Yeah the caffeine things annoy me too. When I was pregnant with ds i attempted to cut all caffeine out and would end up with horrific headaches that would end up making me throw up even more than I already was. Granted that is probably my fault because i have my body so used to caffeine but either way my doctor okay'd a small amount. He ok'd a small amount and it made a huge difference. There aren't many definitive studies that show harm besides the ones that talk about large amounts.

Thinking of you Mona. Hope that the BP stays down or gets down.
