I've really been wanting to get a swing set for the kids. I would like a wooden one and I know they can get pricey. I told DH at Christmas that lets tone it down on the gifts for the kids & put the money towards a swing set this spring. He reluctantly agreed (he figures with a park/school yard within 5 minutes walk, we don't need one), but I would love to be able to have the kids playing outside though while cooking dinner, etc & keep an eye on them. Plus, with DS being small & napping so much, it makes it harder to get out w/ DD.
Anyway, I know that the Rainbow Play sets are alot of $$$$ but seem to be top of the line?! I've been noticing that you can get wooden sets at Kmart, Toys R Us, Menards, etc and kind of scoping them out too. DH is leery of those though as far as quality & having to assemble them ourselves.
Basically, my question is...
Does anyone have a Rainbow play set or other wood play set?
Would you recommend the type that you have? Pros/cons??
If you have time to keep reading....my other question is that DH came across a coupon for 40% off a new Rainbow set which we figured would be a really good deal. Of course it excludes what looks to be their 2 lower priced sets. (Not sure though b/c their web site doesn't give you any prices so you have to go to their show room to look.)
Then we came across a Rainbow set for sale on Craigslist today for $2650 OBO (they say it is $9000 new) but it's around 10 years old, needs a new canopy & restaining but is in "great" condition. If we looked at it & like it, I wouldn't offer that much (I really can't imagine spending much more than $1500).
So I would really like a swing set for the kids & they're at an age where we'd get a lot of good use out of it. But, I also want to fence in the back yard, and there are so many other things that we'd like to do to our house (finish the basement, etc) that cost a lot of $$$$. If we get the swing set, the fence really has to go along with it b/c I still wouldn't send the kids out in the backyard to the swingset unless we were fenced in
