Good grief! We painted our house ourselves when we bought it--it was A LOT of work, but only cost the cost of the paint (still a few hundred, and pretty much all of the improvement money we had after buying the house!)

Really, houses just need work all the time--it is what it is. Our list is long and I feel like it only gets longer, but then again we had some friends over who hadn't seen the place in a few years, and they were blown away by all we've done. It's just hard to really see it yourself when you see it happen so slowly!

I just miss wood. Everything here is adobe, stucco, and brick...wood deteriorates really fast in the desert, and the termites are bad, and it's not a traditional building material since we don't have a lot of trees here, so it's just used for framing and trim most of the time. Not to mention, nothing is really all that OLD...Arizona only became a state in 1912--this was our centennial! I'm from the east, though, where most houses are wood, and while I do love it out here, I miss that old world style!

My Dad has some paint for us but no where near enough, and at around $50-$60 a tin (maybe less because Dad works in a paint shop) and the amount we would need, plus a good mould inhibitor and the hire of a cherry picker to actually reach all the areas even doing it ourselves would run into the thousands, depending on how much the cherry picker hire would cost.

These are from before Isabelle was born-I did the walls in yellow and green so that they would work for a boy or a girl. If baby #2 is a boy, I will just swap out the pink curtains, storage bins, etc. for blue and we'll be good to go!

I added a picture of Isabelle to the picture frame on the wall in photo 2 and I also have a couple of framed paintings of teddy bears on the wall over the changing table which I don't have a picture of.

We keep most of her toys in the living room or study area so her room is still usually the neatest in the house, although if we spend any time at all in her room, she manages to tear it up pretty quick!

I'm impressed with everybody. Rowan doesn't really have a room since she sleeps with us. We turned our other bedroom into a playroom and it's always a mess (which is weird, because she rarely even goes in there).

Anna, tell me about the dresser in Lyla's room. What did you use on the drawers? Is that stenciling? We're currently in the long slow process of refinishing our bedroom furniture, and I like the way that looks.

    Right....

This is what is actually Tobey's room

But a few weeks ago there was a leek in his room so he had to be moved into DS1's room. It's a tip because I've not really sorted anything out yet and half of his things are still in his own room...
