Thread: QOTD Friday the 20th

For some of you it may seem like a rude question, but feel free to not answer if it offends you.

How much did your wedding cost? Did you spend too much? Not enough? Did you spend money on unnecessary stuff or forget to spend on something important?

(I got stuck on the couch covered in babies with no means of changing the channel and some weird wedding show came on)

We spent $5,000. Total. That includes the rings and honeymoon. If I had it to do again, the only thing I would change would be that we'd buy more food. We ran out of food. Other than that I can't think of anything I would spend more or less money on. I think we had a beautiful wedding and it was within our means and I don't feel we overspent.

Oh, definitely under $5,000. Still waiting on my honeymoon. I'm not counting the engagement ring because that was bought and paid off before we were married and I don't know what DH spent on it in the end. Guess I could look it up if I wanted to be nosey.
I decorated myself buying stuff on clearance and with coupons (DH then DF was gone and I had no life outside of work anyway). I conned friends into helping me the night before the wedding to set everything up.
No DJ. I made mix CDs and borrowed a nice sound system.
Made most of the food ourselves. Bought wine for super cheap from a friend's parents who own a liquor store. Had friend's parents pout the wine and keep food refreshed. Borrowed a chocolate fountain.
Had my little sister's librarian make the groom's cake and wedding cake (cheap, looked great, and tasted fantastic!).
My father worked out a trade for programming services for the photographer. This is actually the one thing I wish *I* had been picky about and didn't go with my parent's wishes. While my pictures are perfectly fine, they're extremely traditional and I find myself jealous of other's better (IMO) wedding pictures.
I think my dress was the most expensive part at $400.
And we asked the florist to make the most inexpensive things we needed. We didn't do flower at the tables at the reception and the church gets several fresh flower arrangements every weekend, so we didn't decorate the chapel at all.
I'm very happy with our wedding. Other than the pictures, I wouldn't want anything to change about that day. I wanted a relaxing wedding with family and friends and that's what I got. It's the one time in my life I delegated tasks to others easily. HA HA. WE had about 80 people come.

We spent about $5000 as well, but the food was expensive. We had my Mum donate some money towards food from her tax return that year and my Mum paid for our photographer as a gift and some other relatives paid for a vintage car as my bridal car. We didn't have a honeymoon.

My dress was from ebay, it was $500 with the tags on with the original price of $5000 on it. I did pay for a few small alterations to make it a bit more what I wanted. My aunt made the bombonierre and we decorated ourselves, the night before I was tying meteres of ribbon into small bows for the table. The tables were just simple white table cloths and silver wear with napkins in the wedding colours, and it looked so nice and classy

We got married by ourselves in a courthouse.
(It had Valentine decorations...and it was JULY!) HAHAHAH!
If I could go back, I'd find a minister and get married in a church or on the beach...(We lived in FL) I didn't know you could do that kind of stuff...haha.
I'd also get pictures! and get a dress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but no party or anything:0)
We never got a honey moon either.

ummm I spent a lot more than you ladies! My dress wasn't too bad at around $800, but then I had to have it majorly altered as I lost a bunch of weight! I wasn't complaining though! LOL! I got the favors (large candles) on clearance at a candle store so that was cheap. The food/venue was quite expensive though and I spent full price for my area on the photographer. I did have a DJ, and did pay for two limos since the location was no where near our apartment so we all got ready at a hotel which also cost some money. I also spent a bit on my bouquet since I really wanted orchids but did simple calla lillies for the bridesmaids. We also had open bar the entire reception, but was glad we did it that way, people had a BLAST! I felt really lucky that I used some of the money from my mom's life insurance to pay for the wedding. I think she would have wanted it that way if she couldn't be there IYKWIM. So I guess around 15k for the wedding. I think the one thing I would have done differently was choose a different day of the week. We got married on a Sunday and I think I , probably should have chosen a Saturday instead. I don't feel like I spent money on unnecessary stuff, sure I could have gone cheaper here and there, but I'm okay with what we spent. Now if I hadn't had the money from my mom it would have been a very different wedding!

We also splurged on the honeymoon and took a trip to St. Lucia and stayed at a Sandals. I think that cost between 5k and 8k. A total splurge but ABSOLUTELY worth it! We had the best honeymoon ever, so beautiful, so relaxing, so wonderful! That we did save up for and pay out of pocket.

holy crap! we spent way more.

My parents are traditional so they payed for out wedding with some of DH's parents help. We definitely did not even go overboard and it still cost around $20,000! that also includes MIL decorating our hall for free and doing the flowers for free. I don't think we spent money on anything unnecessary most of the money came from dinner. We had about 150 guests and the plates were like $50/person. I wish we went with a different photographer. I liked out photos, but i felt that he didn't really listen to us and just did what he wanted to do even though i told him how i wanted the photos. he was a little expensive too, like $2,500. we did have a nice honeymoon in the Bahamas, but that money came from our stag and doe. my dress was like $1,000 with taxes,

We had $10,000 to use for church, venue, food, and decorations. The dress, honeymoon, photography, and actual wedding bands (not engagement ring) were all gifts on top of the money we had. Yep, totally spoiled by extended family. There were probably about 115 people at our wedding and we did a lot of the decorations, favors, wine/beer/champagne, and invitations ourselves. It was a nice wedding but went by so fast we hardley got to enjoy it. Maybe CA weddings are more $$$ too cause there was nothing fancy for what I guess would total about $20,000.

Good point Joy - I am guessing that both the east and west coast are a bit more expensive than the middle of the country for everything!

Well, it helped that we were married in November - the off season. Even the fee for the hall was waaaaaay less. Though we really threw things together quickly and ended up having to plan the majority of the wedding in 8 weeks. We had planned on a longer engagement, but when DH got back from 13 weeks of OTS he decided to call up my church and ask if the priest could move up our wedding from a year from then to 8 weeks from then. The time to save up for the wedding was greatly reduced to say the least. I'm really glad about that in the end though - it was a fantastic afternoon wedding!
