US ladies, what will you be doing for the 4th of July? Any plans yet or are you still figuring it out?

Non-US ladies, what's your next holiday that people typically get the day off for? What do you normally do for it?

I will be with my parents for the 4th. I'm sure they'll be cooking out a big meal of BBQ ribs, grilled corn, fried green tomatoes, and more. If the weather is nice, we'll spend the afternoon swimming outside and drinking frozen drinks. That night friends and relatives will come over and we'll all walk the mile over to their city's celebration where there's live music and games. At 9:30pm, they'll set off fireworks for about 30 minutes. I'm crossing my fingers that the mosquitoes aren't bad, but I have a bug net for Aiden's stroller if they are!

I really hate that I'll be separated that weekend from DH. I feel like we're missing out by not being able to take advantage of one of his rare days off.

We will be in Coronado visiting family. They have a big parade all morning that is fun and this year my BIL will be marketing his new shirt line during the parade so I think we will be helping with that as well. There is also lots of BBQs to stop by at family & friends home's, family flag football game, and of course fireworks. There use to be this awesome Seal Team show put on by the Navy, guys jumping out of planes and all, but I'm not sure that they do it anymore. Can't wait to go!

Considering we are in a severe drought with triple digit temps and we have had almost non-stop wildfires, it'll likely be a bust. There is a complete burn ban so all BBQing and outdoor grilling is prohibited. There are no fireworks for sale anywhere and I don't imagine they'll be doing the city fireworks show this year due to the risk of fire.

So basically, no fireworks, no BBQ. It's depressing really. DH and I have spent every 4th together since we met and this is Lyla's first and we don't get to do any Fourth of July type stuff.

Our next public holiday is for the local show in mid July, but other than that it;s Christmas. We are going to take Ronin to the show for a couple of hours so he can go on a ride or two

I was wondering about how much y'all could actually do Anna. Sad I hope you're able to come up with a creative idea on something y'all can do. Maybe stove top grilling, TV fireworks, and lots of drinks? Wink

July 1st Canada Day!! My bff and i went to the Canada day parade every year taking her daughter. This year we will bring Lucas and DH will come along probably. It's also my mom's birthday but since she moved away I'm not sure exactly what will be going on. I hope it's hot so I can go in my dad's pool. The weather has been crap here and it hasn't been able to warm up so I want to go in as much as possible before he sells the house. I doubt we will go to fireworks as they might be too loud for Lucas. But our street and neighbourhood has them so i like watching from the window or patio wherever I can see them best.

Nothing special planned. I was actually extremely surprised to see fireworks for sale in town considering that the entire states is ablaze. If there is a firework display in town that weekend, we'll probably go. My Mom is visiting that weekend so that kinda trumps July 4th.

We host a BBQ every year at our house. This is my favoirte holiday (besides Christmas).Lots of family and friends, and of course great food. We provide the meat and all the fixings and everyone brings a side dish. We light our own fireworks and then go and watch the city's after dark. This year I am going to have the boys make their own t-shirts. I love the 4th!!!!

Here is our normal 4th celebration every single year. My uncle lives on the lake and the lake has the BEST fireworks display around or anywhere for that matter Wink We go over there around noonish and swim all afternoon, grill out a feast, go for boat rides and then around 8pm we all load up in the boat and go to the big part of the lake and meet up with everyone else to watch the fireworks over the lake. After the fireworks are over we go dock hopping and visiting all of our friends that live on the lake. DH and I only live a couple miles from my uncle's house so it's nice that we can get back home quickly so we can stay a little later. Some years, we swim late into the night as boats float in and out of the cove visiting. It's absolute heaven! However, this year we will miss the lake fireworks, as they do their's on the weekend, not necessarily on the 4th. We will be in Mexico!!!!!! Woop Woop!!!!

I love the Fourth of July! I think it is my favorite holiday!! We have a lot of family coming into town, so along w/ all my Atlanta relatives, there will be some from North Carolina, Alabama, and Louisiana. My parents have it at their house every year. We swim all day and my parents grill out and there will be lots of drinking. Then we set off fireworks and blow up watermelons (family tradition - don't ask! Biggrin lol) Soooooo excited!!!

We will go down to my mom's on the weekend for great food and fireworks with the family. Then we will probably go to my DH's family's cabin for the week afterward to hang out. Sometimes we go to the lake to swim all weekend and enjoy the fireworks. We really don't have a tradition that we do every year. It sounds like alot of you ladies have some really neat plans.

Every year, my uncle from NC carves the watermelon that my mom uses for her fruit salad. We call him Borneo Man Dirol Here is a pic from a few yrs ago:

Then when it gets dark, the fun begins! Biggrin

During:

After:

LOL, poor Borneo Man!! Lol

So we now do this every year, and really look forward to it. Yes, my family is crazy. I know. But sooooo much fun! (And yes, I'm sure there was alcohol involved when we came up with this craziness :drunk:)

Veronica that is too funny!!

In my town they do fireworks on the 3rd because most folks here find it to be a reason to drink lots and lots of booze.. So they do it that day so they dont have to get up and go to work the next day... Usually on the 3rd we go to a family friends camp who has a huge party and BBQ, but this year dh has to work and Im not going by myself because its on a lake and no way can I keep an eye on ds and baby. I most likely will sit at home in my backyard or go to the high school to watch fireworks. Then on the 4th they do a a parade that comes down my street so I park my butt in my front yard and watch it with the kids..

This is also one of my favorite holidays too. Dh and I met on the July 5th and got married July 6th of the next year so I always have a good reason to enjoy this week..
