What name do you use for your LOs little bits? Do you have a goofy name or do you stick with their proper names? Are you refraining from giving them names until your LO is older?
I feel its important that Teagan know all her body parts (not as in right this very moment, just eventually so we're working on it). I don't give special attention (or lack thereof) to her genitals. For the most part, we use "proper" names. She knows that mommy and Teagan have vaginas, butts, and boobies. Daddy has a butt and a penis. About half the time I use Bajingo for her vagina because that's what Blonde Doctor on Scrubs would call it and I think its hilarious.
We mostly use proper names. It's a penis. I have boobs. We haven't approached vagina yet just because he doesn't care what mama has other than boobs.

We use proper names except for the word vagina for some reason. DS has always called it my girl butt, even if I've corrected him, that's what he decided it was and if you've ever tried to change a 3 year olds mind you know how hard that is so whatever, eventually I'll correct him or not, he'll figure it out. I do think it's important to call body parts by their proper names or at least so the child knows what the name is even if it's not what they call it all the time. But I don't buy the argument that there's a problem with nicknames. I actually got into a very heated debate with one of my college professors about this subject in my sex ed class.
I think silly nicknames are only a problem when you're using them to hide a feeling of shame. Calling a penis a willy isn't bad but calling it a dirty penis would be.
I'm always interested in what people call vagina as over here we call it a fanny as a 'pet' name which to you lot means your bum. (Yes I giggle every time I hear the word fanny on American TV-I know, I'm grown up!!)
So....Penis we call a willy and testicles we call goolies. I have boobies and...well...no willy
looking at your replies...they know that they have got a penis and testicles but they are big, difficult words to say and the medical profession over here will call a penis a willy anyway It's only really called a penis when it's in medical books.
For us we call a penis a doodle for now ( as is constantly heard while on the toilet put your doodle back in you can't pee in the toilet if you have it hanging out). We will use penis so he knows thats the real name, doodle is a fairly common substitute here, as is willy like Sarah said.
He knows boobies because they are his favourite but beyond that doesn't care, but we will be using the proper name. No idea why but I guess there isn't a common substitution which isn't vulgar.
