Thread: self harm?

when your LO has a tantrum do they start hurting themselves? Lucas has started slapping himself in the head and screaming when he gets mad.

Ya Simon does his himself in the head sometimes when he's mad. I think because it started as him hitting us when he was mad, but we stopped that fast, but he still will sometimes hit himself. Either that or throw things. I've read it can be pretty normal and boys do it more than girls and not to worry, it will stop, and they wont do anything hard enough to hurt themselves....twice anyways. LOL!!

Lyla will bang her head into things when she gets mad. At the grocery store one day I wouldn't give her the change I got back and the banged her head against the shopping cart and left herself a nice bump on her forehead.

Yes. He will try to pound his head on things when he's mad too. he hasn't done it as much lately. But yeah I have heard its normal.

Not so much. Teagan prefers to smack me around. I've heard of lots of kids doing that though.

chloe does this too!!! she also LOVES to take her anger out on poor Trevor.

I've read that self-harm is normal. They don't have the words to communicate what they're feeling, so when they get angry or frustrated, they don't have any other way of getting it out. When Rowan gets really mad, she sticks her hand in her mouth and bites herself. Sometimes she looks really surprised, like she didn't expect it to hurt.
