Default Smartphone: what do you have?

What kind of phone do you have and how do you like it? Who is your carrier?

We are with Verizon and are eligible for an upgrade. I hate, HATE, my current (and first ever) smartphone that we got the day before Lyla was born. I don't want to get screwed with a horrible phone again, so help me.

We both have My Touch 4Gs and are on T-Mobile. I like my phone but I also don't really use any of the "smart" capabilities other than email, a shopping list app, a fertility tracking app, and occasionally FaceBook. I don't particularly care for the camera on it but maybe that's because my settings are all messed up (probably from having a toddler "fix" the settings).

ETA: Camera quality wasn't on our radar when phone shopping because we already have two very nice cameras.

I have a Samsung Galaxy II S and I love it--I actually picked it FOR the camera, because our little digital camera dying was the thing that finally prompted us to get smartphones...we're on AT&T because the price was best for our purposes (don't let the "unlimited" data plan thing fool you--we got the 3G/month and I'm thinking we should downgrade to the 300MB/month because seriously...I use my phone a good amount and I never even come close to that.) Android apps are great, very nearly as good as iPhone now.

We upgraded to iPhone with Verizon about a year ago and both DH and I love them. We didn't have smart phones before that though so I can't compare it to anything else.

PG.org thinks you should get a Galaxy Nexus.

We're probably going to get smartphones....eventually. When we do, I want an iphone, but we'll see.

I will say that when we were getting our phones we really wanted iPhones and our techy, Mac nerd friends who talked us into getting smartphones at all had iPhones and even THEY were kind of jealous of our Galaxys once we'd done all the research comparing them and had them in hand. Not to say iPhones aren't awesome--they absolutely are--but there are pros and cons to both so it really depends on what your priorities are. For us, the Samsungs were equal or nearly equal to iPhones on apps we'd actually use and camera quality, and much better on durability and price, so that's why we made the decision we did. If you google around, there are some good comparison charts and blogs and things that can help you make a good decision for YOU.

Just sharing since I spent literally three straight days doing very little else but researching these stupid things so I would love to share some of that and save someone else the work

I replied on FB, but iPhone. DH uses an old 3gs. Works great. Was super cheap/free with contract once the 4s came out. He has no complaints. He bought me the 4s (I didn't ask for it), mostly because of the camera. It takes fantastic pictures compared to the older camera on the 3gs. That was one area the iPhone was super slow with. I'm sure the 5 will be even more amazing, but I won't upgrade to that when it comes out.
One thing to think about is how the phone works with your computer. While iTunes is my least favorite apple product (remember we do have macs here), it does work seamlessly for us with syncing with the computer. Plus now that they have photo stream with the new iOS, I don't ever have to hook up my phone to my computer to get the billion photos I take on the computer. It does it automatically each day. DH has all of his stuff synced with his google stuff online (it's what his work stuff goes through, so he sticks with it) and other than initial set up hasn't had any issues.

iPhones here. Mine is with AT&T, DH's is with Verizon. The only reason I have AT&T is because work pays for it, and that is their carrier. DH has better service with Verizon. He does not have to deal with alot of the dropped calls and dead spots that I do. The dropped calls really hasn't been an issue lately. It seems that it comes and goes. As for the phones, I love mine.
