some BF questions

We've had such a chilly spring that I've amazingly been able to avoid this so far - but it's finally getting hot here so now I have to deal with this. The nursing bras I have are really thin, basically it's almost like not even wearing a bra. I can't get anything really different, though, because I am so prone to clogged milk ducts, BUT Holy Nipples!!! I don't want to wear breast pads because they are so lumpy, but not really sure what my alternatives are. Ideas?

Also, I attempted to wear a dress for the first time today. Epic Fail. In order to nurse, I had to unzip myself in the back and then pull half the dress down, completely exposing myself (I was in our van), only to have each boy (in turn) nurse for maybe 30 seconds into a let down and then suddenly and violently push away from me with both of their little arms, resulting in getting themselves sprayed in the face with milk and then getting milk everywhere and then refusing to latch on again. Sigh. Oh how I loathe nursing in public! They get SO distracted and then just refuse to nurse. They're also getting very difficult to nurse at home when anything at all is going on. Please tell me I'm not alone. I feel like the only good nursing sessions we have now are before/after sleeps and in the middle of the night. I am convinced Brian gets at least half of his daily calories between midnight and 5am. Any tips for NIP? I can't use a cover or anything because I'm already using both arms to wrestle them . lol

There was something else, too, but I can't remember now... may come back and edit if it comes to me.

I wear the Lansinoh disposable pads mostly to conceal the nips. It's so hot here I normally just wear tank tops with a shelf bra. I can't see the Lansinoh pads under them.

If you can figure out how to get your boys to NIP, please share! Teagan has to be starving or on the verge of passing out and we can't be near anything remotely interesting. Covers don't do anything. She just makes a game out of exposing me to the world. If I'm attempting to nurse her amongst people I'd rather shield my boobs from, I cradle her with a blanket sort of behind her head and lift my shirt. I have a nursing necklace that helps sometimes. It keeps her attention long enough to keep her latched for a few minutes. I too have wound up spraying her and myself countless times when she nurses just long enough to get the flow going . She definitely gets the majority of her milk at night. We co-sleep so it's not like it's a big deal for her to nurse at night but she's been annoying me lately. She just wants to stay attached ALL NIGHT and I don't get any sleep that way. I just push her as far from me as I can or else she'll touch me and work her way over to latch on.

NIP with twins? That's got to be a major challenge! Maybe try to time it where you feed one at a time, but would require someone else to be around to distract the other from realizing The Boobs are out. Wink I use a cover when out in public (well, places other than in my car when out) because I'm not talented enough to nurse without all my glory showing. Aiden pops on and off too and I'm lucky to get him to eat for 5 minutes in a quiet dark room unless he's falling asleep. He has to be pretty hungry to want to NIP these days because everything else around us is much more interesting. He's eating a lot more often these past two weeks just because he's not eating as much in one session. He just wants to get back to rolling and now drunken crawling.
Oh, and I wear nursing pads just to hide my nipples in my one nursing bra. When I finally run out the the current box of throw away ones, I think I'm going to buy a set of reusable ones. My other bras are just regular wire free bras that have enough padding to hide the nipples. A bit more challenging for nursing, but as long as I'm not engorged I can manage to life the bottom up and squeeze my boob through. Lol

Jackie, if you can find reusable ones that don't show through a light bra and shirt, please let me know!! I can't wear the ones I have without a padded bra.

oh good lord, i never tandem nurse!!! i only did it a few times when they were newborns and i was desperate, but it was a major production and required lots of help. geez, they're so distracted now, i can't imagine how bad it would be if they had each other to make the distraction worse.

in my experience, the washable pads are even bulkier than the disposable ones...

When I was nursing, my favorite disposable nursing pads were Johnson's brand. They are very smooth and comfortable, and I don't think they showed through at all. Though I think both my nursing bras were slightly padded. I also had some washable ones that I got at Motherhood Maternity. You could see them a little, but they were way better than the other washable ones I had tried.

I also wanted to say awesome job nursing your twins for this long!!

Ruth, I think we have discussed elsewhere that I don't think I have worn a bra for 3+ years now - just nursing tanks for me.

Sooo, my boobs sag to my knees, my nipples are disgusting, my reusuable pads are definitely bulkier than the disposable, but the the lansinoh and the gerber ones I have tried just leave me with a larger-than-my-nipple bullseye. Gross. Smile

No tip on the dress issue - skirts and tops, for now, I guess!

Wade is also easily distracted these days. Add him to the club of nursing just long enough to get a let down to spray him in the face/soak my clothes. Fun times!

But you're doing great, Ruth! Really! Yahoo

I've got a couple brands of cloth pads and all of them are totally awkward too.

Dresses and nursing so don't work. I'm sorry you found that out while out and about.

No tips on NIP, we have our good times and not so good times NIP as well. At least when I nurse in a front carrier he has a harder time messing with the nursing cover since his arms are not as free and tends to nurse longer.

I find Johnsons pads the best. They are the only ones that don't show through.

Also the NIP thing...no tips. I just find the quietest place I can or there is the suck-get squirted-suck more-squirt more kind of thing going on here too. He does it at home too if his brother is doing something interesting so I try and wait until he's really hungry. He eats best when he first wakes up in the morning

You could be like me and just not care who sees the goods! Lol

No real tips though, I call Simon Mr. Distractor!!
