I'm going to visit family in NJ some time in the next few months. My mom wants to know what gear I need. Teagan will co-sleep with us at night and my Mom already has a pack n play for naps. Obviously, a car seat. No way I'm trusting TSA to treat mine with any sort of dignity. What else? Maybe a high chair? My mom doesn't mind stocking up on some baby stuff as Teagan is just the first of the grandbaby lot but I doubt she wants oodles of junk lying around.
I was thinking about a stroller but I don't know how much strolling we'll do. The part of NJ my family lives in isn't exactly strollable (no sidewalks) and it'll be wicked cold. We will be visiting NYC and a stroller might be helpful for the obligatory visit to Rockefeller Plaza. However, I can stuff her into the Ergo, which is coming, of course.
Teagan will use a big potty in a pinch so I don't think that'll be an issue.
Def. a high chair or even one of those booster chairs with straps. There waayy cheaper than a high chair.
I think youve got the basics.. Car seat, P&P, high chair, and Ergo! Also if she has stairs maybe a baby gate.. My mom does that same when I come to AZ. She will hit up yard sales and thrift stores so I dont have to bring anything.
Mom of 3 beautiful babes!

See if she can't find one of those FP space saver type chairs b/c it can be used w/ Teagan for a long time and can keep using it with other babies younger too. I wish my mom had something, instead I lug mine around in the car. Though I think I'm going to lug the bumbo when I go home next month.
I've done several trips with Aiden now without a stroller. I'm actually thinking about not bringing one for our road trip so there's less junk in the car.
Not for your mom, but for you: If you're flying, take a stroller. You get to gate check it for free, but the real advantage is you get to skip to the head of the security line. Seriously. It's awesome. When Dh and I were flying back from Milwaukee, there was the longest line I've ever seen in my life, and we thought we'd miss our flight, but some airport employee actually pulled us out of line and led us to the front because of the stroller. And as we were walking she told us that she traveled with a stroller long after her kids didn't need it anymore just for the magic line jumping capabilities.
Regarding the xmas tree - there are tethers you can get to attach to a wall, so the tree can't be pulled over.

Problem with the stroller though .. won't they make me put it through the X-ray scanner? I was behind a woman at Newark Airport (known for its pleasant TSA agents) and they made her disassemble it so that it would fit through. They didn't help her and she had two young kids with her. I would have helped her but I was too busy trying to get my 5 week old out of my ring sling without waking her so that I could put it through the X-ray thing. I also don't trust those people with my Bob. They would wreck him.
