For those of you with no AF

Hey ladies

Me and DH have only been using my left over OPTs as birth control. Lol
Anyhow, not only have I not ovulated ever while checking, I get no line whatsoever! Just the control line! Is that normal? Should I have at least some of that hormone?!?!

I'm afraid I'm infertile now or have PCOS or something!!!

Has anyone else used a OPT lately??

Yup I used one the other day, I had a weird ache which I thought may have been O pains (I have never had them before, but I know that pregnancy can change things about in regards to your cycles and how they feel) so I POAS to see but it was negative. I'd done it a few weeks before as well, but I think they must have just been aches from sitting or walking funny or something.
I only had the control line as well and that just means it's negative, the LH builds up as you appraoch ovulation which is why when using OPKs over a few days around ovulation you get it going from light to dark as the hormone builds.

I have no experience w OPT's but I am still without AF. Not that I'm complaining in anyway Smile The last few days I've noticed that I'm crampy on my left side. I'm not sure if it's an ovulation cramp, the possibility of getting AF soon, or if it's implantation cramping () or if it's to do w the car accident I was in three days ago... DF and I have been really careful but have had a few oops... I was contemplating getting a pregnancy test and seeing where that gets me... LOL!!

Are you breastfeeding? If you are, you probably are not ovulating yet..

Ahhh, I think you, me, and Jackie all had AF return around the same time. Mine just showed last week. She is making the rounds...boo!

Kitty, you could be not Oing with BFing still. I felt like I did for a month or 2 before AF showed but I don't know for sure. I bet everything is fine.

I bought A LOT of HPTs from the Dollar Store a few months ago. (Wanna know what kinds of looks this gets you when you have a small baby on you?) Every month I've taken one. I do not want to be one of those "I didn't know I was pregnant" women. Lol I guess now I have more of a reason to take them since I'm apparently starting to cycle again.

I did this, too. Just took one cheapie a month to be sure.

No experience with OPTs here but if you don't have AF then there's a good chance you haven't ovulated yet. You can ovulate without having a period but there's a reason BFing is such excellent birth control ;). I am one of those women who can feel ovulation and I *think* I've felt it for the past two months. No AF yet but I'm sure she's on her way soon.

Enjoy this AF free time while it lasts!!

Yeah, don't tell that to my friend who is due in about 2 weeks. She never saw her first PP AF... got pg when her son was 9 months old.

I would say that the OPK is fine for birth control, as long as you don't mind getting pregnant again. Wink

Ahaha! No I dont mind getting pregnant again. DH might though!!!!!

Yes I am breastfeeding. I'll just enjoy this AF-free time then and not worry about it. I'm sure I'll begin ovulating again at some point! Smile

I was going to say don't tell that to my mom (my brother and are 15 months apart), or my sister (her kids are 17 months apart) my BFF (14.5 months apart) or countless aunts and cousins who all got pg while still breastfeeding. Breastfeeding for birth control does not work for everyone. My mom and sister never even got AF back before they were pg again, and my BFF only has some minor spotting. I don't think I am going to rely on that. We don't mind if we get pg again though, so it's all good.

Yeah, so the thing about BFing as birth control is that it works really well until it doesn't anymore and you never know when that'll be. Wink

True, that's why I use an OPT every time before we dtd....until I run out of them anyways. They are going to expire soon so I thought might as well use them!

I think you're going about it the right way. Just don't worry about not seeing a line. Certain hormones are effective at VERY low concentrations so I'd imagine the hormone that the test detects in your system is virtually non-existent right now. Especially since you've been without AF for so long. If you're starting to have some AF-like symptoms, it might be a good idea to use backup protection until you get your first PP AF. It *might* be possible that you'll ovulate before the hormone levels are above the threshold of detection. Don't quote me on that. I'm just saying it's possible and it's unlikely the makers of such tests have done much research on the hormone levels in PP women.
