We are into full potty training

no diaper
Full access to the potty.
Accidents...
Fun times.
Juliet is actually pretty good as long as she is not doing something too interesting. She is about 2 potty uses per 1 accident.

Woohoo! Are you also going diaperless while out and about? What about sleep time?

We're pretty much diaperless at home except for sleeping. We've just started using the potty outside the house. T acutally asked to use the potty at the JBF sale this morning. Her diaper was dry, she went big pee in the potty, and was dry again when we got home. This might be a diaperless day!

No diapers at home during waking hours. She did wake up from her nap dry. The diaper is on the change table, ready to be used again.

That's great!!!

We've started on the potty train, but not full time. We do a potty day whenever he decides that he's not going to keep diapers on - like yesterday. Today though he's completely left his diapers alone and has zero desire to go to the potty. And I'm glad that I bought the cheap IKEA floor potty because the kid insists on only using the big toilet, just like mommy and daddy. Aiden usually doesn't tell us that he needs to pee, we have to watch his actions (so it's more mommy training ). When he does go we're working on peeing DOWN into the toilet and why point it DOWN is best. One step at a time right? Lol We do underwear at home when he decides that he's not going to use diapers.

We had an awesome morning (she initiated two pees and two poops, no accidents) but then this afternoon she peed on the ground outside (not squatting, just not paying attention) and then again when I put her new training pants on her...DH got a kneeful. But then when I took it off she ran to the potty and peed in it. Baby steps!

wow! I haven't even started with PT yet. I'm trying to sleep train right now! One thing at a time! ha ha

We tried PTing DS around 2 years old and it was a total disaster. I'm hoping DD is not the same.

Girls are, on average, both easier and earlier to train than boys. But of course that's just typical, not a rule or anything! I'm sure she'll let you know when she's ready to start. Addy's been waking up dry from naps, etc., and showing lots of interest, which is what you look for.

Ended the night on a great note---one more poop in the big toilet! That's a whole day with no poop in diapers! YAY!!!

Well done potty trained people.

Tobey often takes himself to his brothers potty then does nothing and 5 seconds later pees on the floor. I think it will be a while before we are near doing it properly. Like well over 2

I was starting parent led PTing when we were in TX this past winter. It was way easier then than now because at that magical age they think it's a fun game that they want to keep playing and he was already waking up dry from naps. Moving kept me from doing more than potty 1-2 times a day and now it's harder for me to "train" him since we stopped for months. Now at these ages we're entering more into the child led training stage rather than the parent led stage. Each kid is different in when they'll show signs. Aiden loves to take off his diaper. In fact some days I can't keep a diaper on him at all. He wakes up dry from most naps (I would say all, but the kid wet the bed in underwear on Friday - figures! lol). And when he's in the mood he loves to get on his potty and go. I'm not willing to create a fight over it, so we're taking it slowly. If we hadn't moved when we did I had planned to do a bootcamp weekend (this was last Feb!). Maybe next kid I can? Blum 3 Oh, and night time is completely biological and he's no where near that so we always do diapers.

Jackie, that honestly sounds about like where we are. The only thing that gives me hope/is making me take it more seriously right now is that she's moving into the potty training class at school, which is a huge opportunity to take advantage of peer pressure. Best motivator around.

Downside of potty training I discovered, especially since she decided she prefers the real toilet again: now we have three people using one bathroom. One of whom has absolutely no respect for other people's bodily needs. Wink

She had three accidents today, and pooped on the chair, while looking at DH. He saw her cue, but did not act on it.
Tonight, she told him that her dolly needed to go pee, and two minutes later she did on the floor.
I have tried undies un her, but she does better bare bum.

This morning, she got her markers and coloured her 'down there'.

Tomorrow, she goes back to daycare. They do take them to the bathroom, since the changing table is there. They are suppose to put her on the small toilet. However, she will not have total access as she does here.

Sorry, but the bolded had me burst into laughter!!! Lol Ah toddlers are such fun.

Aiden took off his diaper tonight and peed twice in the potty, but refused earlier in the day. Whatever. lol

Best wishes!

Lainey enjoys sitting on the potty, but I don't think she isn't ready to fully pt yet. She also does better bare bum vs training pants or undies.

I was floored and ecstatic that Addy asked to go last night while in her high chair eating dinner and wearing training underpants! Usually she does best with a bare bum too. This morning she peed in the potty but then pooped in her diaper in the car. She did tell me, but couldn't hold it long enough for me to do anything about it. Oh well--I knew today was going to be weird, since she's at my mom's. She does have a potty seat over there, but my mom won't let her run around with nothing on, and she seemed kind of resistant to the idea of using the toilet there when I dropped her off, so...we'll see.

We had one accident in panties yesterday and one pee on the floor so far this morning. I was cooking eggs and I heard "I peed! I peed!" coming from the living room. I don't know what that was all about.

Aiden decided on no diapers or underwear this morning. And surprisingly no accidents! Thankfully I had enough common sense to put a diaper on him before allowing him to go "up up" in our new wrap. Kid is now passed out on my back. lol

I've never worn T without a diaper. That's just asking for trouble.

I counted the diapers in the load I just put away and Teagan used 8 diapers (including night time) in the past 4 days!

That is awesome! Aside from refusing to go for my mom all morning, Addy had another gold star day. She even sat through dinner in underwear and they're still clean as a whistle!

Addy has been nearly perfect at home (even in diapers, underwear, or naked, I can't think of ANY pees or poops in anything other than the potty for the past four days while awake) but refuses to tell us outside the house so far until after the fact, and always says no when we ask. She hates sitting on large toilets with no little seat insert and will do it for only about ten seconds before wanting to get down. At least it's a good start...but it's a little frustrating, too!

Oh, and now that she's been having so much naked time, we're starting to have some serious issues with genital curiosity. It's hilarious and gross all at the same time. We don't want to give her a complex about it, so we've just been telling her it's important to keep it clean, let's not play with it--it's for peeing only--but she keeps either trying to peer inside or sticking things in there! Yesterday when I was at work, she put a penny in there, and then told DH "Look, Daddy! Look!" I really do not want to end up in the ER for this.

We had two PT fail moments yesterday. The first was a mommy fail and the second was a toddler fail. They were followed by two awesome PT wins though!

Unbeknownst to me at 6am, Teagan had a touch of diarrhea. She said "poops" and headed for her potty. She was diaperless and I figured she had it so I left her to it. She did not have it. We both required a shower. Right after that she was dancing around in the living room and just peed on the floor. At least she yelled out "I PEED". So after that, we headed to the Children's Museum to meet up with Sara & Rowan and while there she looked at me and said "poop". I rushed her to the potty but it was too late. She'd pooped in her diaper. She tried though and it was my fault for not getting her there fast enough. The mushy poop did not help. We got home and she again announced that she had to poop so I took her to the big potty to find that her diaper was dry (finally realized it was a diaper-required day) and she proceeded to poop on the potty. She was quite pleased. Soooo, she's really trying!! I now feel super bad for all you multi-poops per day families.

That's awesome how well she's doing, though, especially considering her upset tummy!

Oh my Leigh! Lol Aiden constantly plays with himself, but really it dangles and after a bit it well, goes up. He thinks it's fascinating.

Erin, she's doing great! Aiden doesn't realize he can control his poop, so I insist on him wearing underwear to help contain the mess in case he does poop during a diaper refusal time. This morning he was fine with his diaper, so no PTing.

Talking about putting things down there, I mentioned on the weekend that Juliet took a marker and gave her self a generous crop of orange pubic hair. She had it all the way back to her bum. It took two baths and a generous coat of diaper cream to get it all out. I was worried it would irritate her skin, but no. Good thing they were the super washable ones from Crayola.

She was accident free at home last night and this morning. Tonight, I had put a diaper on her to put her to bed. She peed in her diaper, while siting on her potty. I was not fast enough to get to her and take it off. Then later on this evening, she was layng on a pillow, beare bum, and forgot herself. She did run imediatelly to the potty.

We are making progress.
In two weeks, my sister is getting married. We will be gone for over a week. That includes a 800km (12 hours with all the stops to keep me sane) trip to my home town of Gaspe. Then we will drive to Quebec City. My Dad has to go to the cardiologist there for tests. Then back to Gaspe, and back to Saint John a few days later. We'll see what that does to the potty training. Juliet use to be really good an the road, and not pee while in her carseat. I might come back.

Ooooo good luck on that trip on the potty training front! Smile

Aiden peed on the couch this afternoon. Is is wrong that i'm happy that it was DH's side and not mine? lol. I put him in a diaper after that and an hour later he took it off, gave it to me (wet lol), and asked for a treat. Oh lordy. Lol

Ha, Jackie!

So, Adair did not have any PT success at school today, but she did try three times (twice in class and once with me on the way out) so that's something. And she had another totally successful evening at home. I'll take it!

Good luck on the trip, Louise! You're brave--I think the car seat is probably the LAST place I'll attempt going diaperless!

I was surprised at how well Teagan did on our road trip. We used diapers in the car set but she used the potty quite a bit when we stopped and did really well at people's houses.

Leigh, what's the deal with PTing at daycare? Do they take all of them to the potty every so often? Are you still sending her in diapers? I was kind of envisioning just sending Teagan in just a fitted with no cover that could be pulled down the first few weeks. That way she'll have something a bit more substantial to catch accidents but she'll still feel like they're underwear. Once she was doing well with that I figured I'd just start in panties.

I've been sending her in disposable pullups, but it's only been two days and she's never had success at school yet (well, I don't know about today yet...fingers crossed!). Once she starts having some success at school, I might try getting some of those in between trainer cloth pants--you know, the ones with some kind of plastic layer so they really do contain accidents, but feel much less bulky than a diaper...not sure yet. She LOVES wearing her "underpants" at home, but even with the extra layers in the crotch it's not enough to contain even one full pee...just leaks, really. Along the lines you were thinking, I was thinking it might be nice to send her in, like, Sunbabies with no insert. Is that crazy?

I'm actually not totally sure what the policy is. I know they do put them on to try a couple of times a day, but I think otherwise they wait for the kid to initiate, and just take them if they ask. I haven't had a chance to talk to the teachers about it yet--I stayed and chatted at pickup yesterday but it was more about how she did on her first day than PT specific.

Sunbabies with no insert might work well. You want some of yours back? We don't really use them all that much any more. I think we use 3-4 per load. Hmmmm. I was under the impression that they would take the kids for scheduled potty trips but maybe they are assuming that Addy's not there yet because she just turned two? Teagan does really well if you ask her like every 15-20 minutes but she's not so great about asking to go potty.

So I asked today, and she said they take them at 9 and 11 but otherwise just when the kid asks...at first. Once they start asking, THEN they bring them every half hour. She does sit when they take her, but hasn't actually done anything there yet. I told them what we do at home and that she's great if you keep reminding her but only tells you on her own occasionally, so we'll see. I don't think they like to push them at all, just offer the opportunity and follow their cues. Which is okay...we'll get there!

The only problem with the Sunbabies (or fitteds) is that I want Addy to learn to push her own pants down, and I don't think those would push very easily, would they?

Aiden doesn't ask to go (unless you count taking off the diaper and playing with himself ha ha). He keeps picking up on more and more signs from the DVD but not the potty one!!!!
Snap diapers can be pushed down depending on where the snaps are located and your kid's size in relation to the diaper. Aiden can push down Sandy's fitteds, but he'd rather just unsnap them of course. Just like his Kawaiis when snapped slightly loose.

Today Aiden kept peeing in his diaper, taking it off and handing it to me, and running off to pee more in the toilet. lol

I think they are trying to figure out how long they can hold it. Then, sometimes they forget.

Juilet had one accident last night, again around DH. I was running her bath, and she was standing on my chair in the dinningroom.

I've spoken to her daycare providers. They are suppose to be asking her more ofthen. When she needs to go, she pulls at her pants. However, she is not at the point where she will pull them down.

I think that's very true. We had our first accident at home in WEEKS yesterday. I kept asking and asking, and then she was looking for a plum in the refrigerator and suddenly peed all over the floor. At least it was on the tile in the kitchen and not the carpet in the living room!!!

Just pop him up there, Janice! Maybe do a demonstration? Does he give you any indication of when he goes? I'd start by putting him up there a few times right after his nap. He's likely to go and perhaps the novelty of the experience will be enough to encourage him to want to do it more. Don't push it if he resists. I'm sure even the "pro" potty using toddlers on this board have days when they refuse. Just test the waters and see what happens!

T hasn't been doing super great out of the house but she's been asking to poop in the potty almost every day. She even asked my Dad to help her when he watched her last night.

Last winter we started off with my putting DS on the potty when he woke up from his nap. He was waking up dry most naps and would pee within 10 minutes of being up, so we practiced then. Some days he went, some days he waited till his diaper is on. We did a "bootcamp" day a couple of weeks ago, but that's because Aiden decided he wasn't going to keep diapers on anymore and he was excited to potty like DH and I. He always follows us to the potty. lol. Take it slow. No reason to make a big deal out of it and stress yourself of him over it. Some days we have a full up PTing day and other days the kid doesn't care one bit and stays in diapers. ha ha.

sometimes i can tell when he is pooping but not always. i can never tell when he pees. I was just going to go with the flow and see if he would react at all, i wouldn't force it no rush as he is still pretty young:) he is pretty clueless about it all though he doesn't even know what poop means but he does seem curious when i go to the bathroom and he wants to know what i am doing.

I can attest to the bad potty days. Even if we've been at it sice Juliet is 4 months, every six month's or so, she goes through a period of refusal. The last one ended about two weeks ago. Now, she is really interested. I hope this is it.

On Saturday, she was so proud to show her daddy that she had peed in the potty, she picked it up and carried it to him, spilling half in the process.

She is really good in the morning. Accidents tend to happen more in the afternoon. In the morning, she comes to me to take off her diaper. She threw a fit yesterday, when I wanted to put one on her to go to Mass. She did accept a cloth one. When we got home, she wanted it off. It was dry.

MIL went shopping in Bangor. I asked her to find Juliet some panties with kitties on them. She has a thing for cats. I am hoping she will not want to wet the kitty. So far, Juliet has not been good with panties.

Yay! Aiden!!!!

We are in the same position as you, Jackie and Louise...some great days, some bad ones. Yesterday she pooped and peed on the floor (two separate incidents) but this morning she did both in the potty on her own. I'm trying to give her lots of reminders and opportunities but not stress. Sometimes I do better than others too Smile
