My work is closed between Christmas and new years, taking out the public holidays there are three days that we would have been open and it looks like they need someone to be on call during that time. Daycare is open and even if Ronin stays home we have to pay for the days, but we can apply for the holiday discount which is 50% of the fee. If I am on call he will have to go but I will drop him off late and aim for an earlier pick up and hope I don't get a call at five to five or something. I get paid for the on call time as well so it's extra money . Would you do the on call or not?

For me, I probably woudn't bother with it. I would just enjoy the extra time off without waiting for the phone to ring. But then, I've never had a job I liked to make a little extra money worth it. That's just me.

You'll still have Christmas and New Year's off no matter what, right? Does the extra money you make cover the cost of daycare? If so then I would go for it! Whenever I have days off during the week I always take my kids to my sitter just to have some time for myself, so if it were me I would be taking him to daycare at least 1 or 2 of the days anyways, even if you didn't end up working. Plus I can always use extra money! That's why I love our working holidays. We are open Veteran's Day coming up, and I get paid 2 1/2 times my normal pay to work it, so I said sign me up!!

Yeah I still have them off. I'm not sure what the on call rate is, but it would add up to a couple of hundred dollars I would imagine

Checking into it todayI would get full pay for all three days which would happen anyway, except being on call I don't have to use any of my accrued overtime hours or annual and I get credited a day onto my leave for one of the days.

I'd probably do it if the chances of actually getting called in were less than say 75%. I get stir crazy at home. Plus, the extra money will be nice.

I think in the last 5 or so years they have had 1 call out, so the chance of being called out is really low. Watch now i've said that we will be rushed off our feet.
