I thought we had a bag packing thread started? but here is another

Anyway my mom just asked me about and said i better get on it. So....

Who has there bag packed?
When do you pack yours if not packed yet?

I want to keep it simple, What are your must haves?

oh and do you have a birth plan? is it finished?
I started mine but got overwhelmed.

Last time I packed in early labor to give myself something to do. This time, since I labored so fast last time, I'll pack around 38 weeks or so. No birth plan since I'm at a birthing center and they wouldn't do anything I wouldn't be okay with (very low intervention). I'm not bringing much with me, since I will be leaving 5-6 hours after the baby is born.

I've bought the toiletries to put in it (because I can't stand the ones at the hospital), but I haven't actually packed anything. I am making my list of things that I need in the actual bag...
*Comfy clothes for me (I prefer some loose lounge pants or gauchos and soft jersey shirts for after baby is born and to wear home)
*Plenty of cheap or older undies
*My own toiletries(mouthwash, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, lotion, toothbrush/toothpaste, chapstick)
*Snacks
*A few nursing pads just in case I am still there when my milk comes in.
*Breast pump (this is just in case my labor stalls while I am there)
*Clothes for baby (A few onsies/sleepers, hat, socks)
*A receiving blanket or two (I stole the hospital's when DD was born because I forgot to pack one).

Things that I will hopefully remember to bring, but won't necessarily have in the bag:
*Cameras
*iPod and Macbook

I am sure there are some things I am forgetting, but I pack only what I really need for a vaginal delivery. My family can bring me anything else I might need. And it depends upon if you have things that will make things more comfortable when you are there.
I pack at 36 weeks, but I know many people pack earlier just in case.

Birth plan. Mine is very simple and straight forward. I haven't completely written it, but the gist of it is:
1. I am planning a natural delivery without medications. Please do not ask me if I want pain medications, I will ask for them if I feel I need them.
2. I would like to be able to move around as much as possible. Unless complications arise, I would like only intermittent fetal monitoring.
3. I would like to request a room with a tub for laboring in.
4. I would like only limited vaginal exams (when I am admitted and when I feel the urge to push or at the most every 4 hours unless complications arise that would necessitate the need to check for progress).
5. Please encourage me to remain in an upright position throughout labor.

Of course, there is a little more to it (about after the birth), but I am trying to keep it to a small list of requests.
Yours will probably need to be more in-depth as it is your first baby. Most of all keep it readable for the nurses so that they are more likely to read it and digest it.
Good luck!

I am so envious of this. I want to go home ASAP and they told us a minimum of 24 hours for baby's sake. They said that the pediatrician won't let us go earlier so I am now stuck with the task of finding one that will let us leave sooner if everything is okay or resigning myself to the 24 hour deal. Sad

Who has there bag packed? Me.
When do you pack yours if not packed yet? I packed it about a week ago.

I want to keep it simple, What are your must haves? I'm at a birthing center so not much. I have a nursing tank and swim shorts for labor, the shorts come off at delivery but I'm keeping the nursing tank on (water birth) for modesty in photos. I have two nursing gowns and some pants/shirt for me to go home in (I will only be there 8 hours tops). I also had to pack everything for the baby: 5 recieving blankets, a couple little shirts, diapers, wipes, and I brought my boppy.

oh and do you have a birth plan? is it finished? I am doing my birthing plan this week with my doula.

Thoughts, Comments, Ideas? the less the better, you'll be so into baby and visitors you won't need anything else but the basics.

Gosh I havent even started packing... well for the hospital anyway lol. I will get on that once I get UNPACKED at the new house at the end of next week. lol

With DS I overpacked, but ended up being there a week, so not only was I glad for many things, but I also had family and DH bring stuff. This time it'll depend what plays out with my csection and/or labor ... I kinda hate that its up in the air right now, makes it harder to plan.
-Anyway, I agree that the necessities are comfy clothes for you, so tshirts or tanks or whatever you prefer and some loose comfy pants/shorts.
-I really liked having my bathrobe in the hospital as it let me wander around and feel totally covered. Smile I'd recommend that if you are doing a hospital birth.
-Your own pillow is really nice if you like to have your own pillow.
-snacks and entertainment things (ie: ipod/mp3 player, laptop, camera, cell phone, etc, and ALL chargers for them). DH and I actually watched movies in the hospital during early labor (since I was induced) on the laptop. lol.

Birth plan I have to do for Thursday this week, and fill out the paper work for the hospital.
Again, It will depend on the C section drama I've mentioned a zillion times. lol... Also up in the air still. sigh

No bag packed here yet. Everyone has pretty much mentioned what I plan on packing. The only other thing I want to be sure to get and bring is a gift from the new baby to DS and plenty of cash/coins for trips to the cafeteria/vending machines for DS, DH and other people. Oh and th elist of people to call when baby arrives.

The Pediatricians are very picky about letting you leave early. My DH and I both work in healthcare and the Pediatrician on call still wouldn't discharge us until 24 hrs after DD was born even though I was ready to leave. They like to draw bilirubin levels(for jaundice) at 24 hrs and it gives them time to perform all the newborn testing before you leave. He even made us come back to the lab at 48hrs to draw one because hers was on the high end of normal. It is very frustrating, but at the same time they have a huge liability on their hands if they miss something so I can sorta understand why they are so picky.
If you're a FTM, you may not feel like leaving at 24 hours anyway. I didn't with DS- I was so wiped out I wanted to stay the extra night. But maybe you can find someone who will let you leave if you want to!

I'm having a re-peat csec and since I ruptured last time I am fine with staying for a few nights. I haven't packed and will pack around 35-36 wks I think.

Everyone has pretty much posted what I was thinking in terms of what to pack Smile

Comments or ideas I would say not to pack too many clothes for you and baby bc I personally didn't use them til we left to go home...so much bleeding and with a c-sec checking your incision that it wasn't worth it to get dressed for a day or two after. Smile

My bag is pretty much packed all the way...
So far I have :
*Clothes for me for after labor (sleep pants, t-shirts,tank top, 2 nursing nightgowns..i will be there 2 full days after delivery)
*pack of granny panties bought especially to use for after birth...these are the cheap ones ill just toss after use...
*My personal toiletries, shampoo conditioner, body wash, toothbrush/toothpaste, chapstick... as well as my SO's toiletries.
*SO's swim trunks, in case I want to shower during labor, and that way he can get in there with me
*baby clothes and blankets
*small baby toy(stuffed animal) to use as focal point for contractions
*extra phone charger, since i will be using my phone to play music if I want to
*snacks
*clothes for my SO for at least the day after...then he can go home and get more if he wants (we live literally .2 miles away from the hospital)

And then of course there are the last minute items that I will have to grab since they are every day items, like hairdryer, makeup(i know im crazy), carseat...etc

I have my birth plan in my head, but dont have anything written down yet...and havent discussed with Dr. yet..will be doing so at either the next appt, or the one after...

I made up a list today of things to pack now, or when I get around to it and then a list to put with the bag to pack last or day of (chargers, camera, clothes). I am thinking the diaper bag that I got would be perfect size for all of my things, phone, chargers, camera, toiletries and whatnot and then I will find another small bag for clothes, instead of using the small suitcase. Oh maybe a backpack, that would be perfect. Now I want to pack, lol!
