Exams?

When do they generally start checking us? Its when we drop down to the weekly appointments at 36 weeks, right?

I don't get checked again until labor, I will even do the GBS test on myself at the birthing center. I think I get checked once after labor has for-sure started and then once again when I'm feeling the urge to push.

OMG - I sooooooooo wouldn't be able to do that! I'm so extremely impatient that I'm already trying to rush ahead to the 36 week appt (in 3 weeks - practically forever) just so I can know. I doubt I'd be at all dilated, but I still wanna know whats what Smile

I'm to weekly appts with my ob (fert dr), but no checking internally. I'm sure they don't want to mess around down there for fear of starting something. I'll be 32 weeks this weekend, but my weekly started early since I could pop at any time. No symptoms at all yet though, whew.

Can I ask, what is GBS? I'm seeing it a lot and don't know what it is. Also, is ELV easy labor vibes? That's all I could come up with. lol

GBS is Group B Strep. It's a common bacteria found in women's vaginal tracts. An extremely small number of babies born to GBS+ women end up having severe issues because of it (they can die), so they test all women that plan on delivering vaginally around 37 weeks. If you have it, it's not a big deal, they usually just run antibiotics before delivery. If they don't have time or your status is unknown, they either treat the baby with antibiotics or they just monitor for symptoms depending on the facility. You're having a c-section, so you won't need to worry about it.

Most OBs start at 36 weeks. My OB told me she'd do the GBS swab and check me at my next appt in two weeks (35 W 5 D). I'm debating about declining it because I don't see the point right now since I haven't had many contractions and I could be walking around for several weeks being dilated 2cm (I was 2 cm for 2 weeks before I had DD).
But, like you, I am very impatient and it makes it feel closer when I know things are "happening", LOL.

With DS they didnt start until 38 weeks. I wasnt progressing at all. lol.

I guess it depends on if you are with an OB or a MW and where you deliver. Smile

I have read in many places that it really does not tell you anything regarding timing so I am going to request not to have them at all. No point in sticking your fingers up there to find nothing out. Smile

My dr office doesn't do internals until labor starts.

At this point I wouldn't want them messing around in there either. I am still trying to make it another two weeks and I wouldn't want them starting anything yet.

My midwife doesn't do them unless you request or are in labor.
