Feeling like a bad mom.

Sad So Alex is my first uncircumcised boy-- not to start a debate so we'll just leave it at that but I feel awful b/c I've done what they've said about keeping it clean (which was really to do nothing different... don't pull the foreskin back, just keep him changed and wiped, dry and clean) and he still has gotten an AWFUL yeast infection. His penis started swelling today and then it got huge (sorry if TMI) and pus started coming out the end. I took him to the ER b/c I didn't know what was going on-- I didn't know if somebody had tried to pull his foreskin back while changing him or what but they said it was balanitis (or a yeast infection) of the foreskin. Sad I am taking him to the pedi. tomorrow b/c it really just looks awful and I don't understand how a cream is going to work on a yeast infection of the foreskin-- any other advice? What can I do to help him? I know to keep him diaperless as much as possible... any natural remedies? I'm sorta freaking out but I think it looks more painful to me than it really is to him-- doesn't seem to bother him.

No advice here as both my boys are also circ'd but I hope he feels and gets better soon. Hugs!

Oh Hun!!! Don't feel like a bad mom. :bighug:

Both my boys are uncirc'd and ds1 had a yeast infection this summer. Has nothing really to do with the fact that he's circ'd or not IMO, for ds1 it was from the heat this summer and being damp in the diaper all the time. The bacteria love those conditions. Dr gave me a cream made from some canesten and antibiotic and it went away quickly.
Yes, keep the diaper off or change as often as you can. Also use a washcloth instead of wipes to keep him clean.
Honest, it's no problem having them not circ'd IMO, don't doubt yourself for one decision. Youre a great mom! He will be ok. Xoxo

Edit: dr also told me it's more common in girls (obvious reasons) but boys get it too.

It looks much better today! Pedi. said it is definately a yeast infection and that the cream will find it's way inside the foreskin. So I hope it continues to get better. Smile

Thats good that everything is looking better already! Definitely don't fret about it...our little guy had a yeast infection and he's circ'd so it happens no matter what. Its good that its already getting better though!

*lurker*

So glad your little man is starting to feel better!! We don't circ & some of mine have had a YI too but with the cream it goes away quickly, just like it would for a little girl Smile And I really do think us mom's have a harder time with it than they do lol Your ANYTHING but a bad mom! Things like this just happen, it's normal.
