I just don't understand.......

why I can't pass the stupid 1hr GD test! Especially when all I ate was protein. Now I have to take the 3hr one again. I am not happy:(. The OB tried his best not to make me upset by saying it wasn't really by much. But the fact remains that I have to take it again and I have to take it in the afternoon. My supervisor doesn't like me taking anytime off because I only work from 8am-12pm. So I will have to go without eating until after the dumb test. Arrgggghhhh!

can you call and find out how long the fast actually has to be for. maybe you can eat a good breakfast at like 6am and then make it through to your test. its not reasonable for a pg lady not to eat.
i'm really sorry you've got to go through this.

hugs!!

I did mention to him that I would have to go in the afternoon because of the issue with my job. The only thing he offered was to give me info on centers that opened at 5am. Not much help since I have to be to work at 8.

Do you work Saturdays? If not maybe you can take the 3 hour on Saturday.

No I don't. That's a good idea! I didn't think about that. I will have to find out if any labs are open on saturdays. Thanks!

Welcome, also watch what you eat the night before, I wouldn't give in to your sweet tooth craving. I have GDM now. It's not that bad, but it could be better.

Great advice. I did have cake the night before. Didn't know that made a difference. I am sure learning alot. So glad to be on this site.

Just going to throw this out there, but the glucose testing is SUPER inaccurate. There are many, many, many, many, have I said many? - false positives. My MW blatantly told me not to bother taking it, and my OB even told me not to bother with it. I realize that most people who deliver in hospitals must have it on their record stating that they passed or else they will treat momma and baby as if they didn't, but do know, it's more likely the lab/error/etc and NOT you. I know that probably doesn't help any though - you still have to take it.

As you know, I failed terribly the 1 hour and didn't even have to take the 3 hour. BUT, every after-meal test I've pricked my finger for since then I've passed. I'm sure I'm more mindful of what I eat now and maybe that made all the difference, but I kinda doubt it since yesterday for lunch I had a normal, pre-testing, meal for me and was still under the needed number. The only one I keep failing is the first thing am "fasting" number. Today was the first day I passed that one at all.

So, don't worry too much about it. I hope you can find a place to do it for you on a Saturday!! If you can't, can you ask your dr about just going to the dietician and not keep doing these tests over and over?

I thought the 3 hour had to be fasting in the morning.

I hope your 3 hour results turn out good.

yes, as far as i know you have to be fasting for the first draw, and be under 95 to even start the test. I am so sorry you have to take the 3 hour. also don't eat too much complex carbs the night before, limit pasta and the like. That should help.

Since I have GD what I have learned is the morning fasting number and breakfast number are the hardest to pass. Apparently while we sleep at night our liver releases glucose when stressed. This elevates our fasting and first thing in the morning numbers.

Although taking it in the afternoon would suck (due to fasting) you are probably more apt to pass it in the afternoon than first thing in the morning.

Thanks for the advice and support ladies. I did find a lab that's open on saturdays. It's actually open 24 hrs/day. It's at a hospital but that's just fine with me. I so don't understand why we have to take it twice during the pg(don't think I will/want to because I hate drinking that stuff). I remember only taking it once when I was pg with DD1. I am probably going to eat just protein the night before. Hopefully that helps.

Hope you get good results! Like others said, it's very common to fail the 1 hr and pass the 3 hr. Try not to stress about it too much (that can drive your numbers up!).
