I'm in serious trouble!

So today I decided I'm going to start pumping after one of Max's morning feedings to start building up my milk stash for when I go back to work (mid Nov). I've pumped a couple times before with Max but not after nursing. Twice, once when I had taken Alex to preschool and hubby gave him a bottle so I pumped as soon as I got back and the 2nd time was something similar.

Anyway, this time when I pumped after I nursed Max I literally got a few drops. WTH?? I know I haven't started letting down yet, as I've said before it took me a few weeks before I started to letdown with Alex but come on! I had Max in the RocknPlay Sleeper right in front of me, I was relaxed and calm. I seriously hope this isn't how things are going to work. I had no problems pumping with Alex.

Have you tried pumping at the same time that he is nursing? on the opposite side obviously. Thats what has always worked best for me, since the letdown happens from him nursing it makes it easy.

I haven't tried it with Max but I tried a few times with Alex. I just couldn't get the hang of it. Took too much work. How do you get it to work?

I sit on my bed, put one pillow next to me, then the boppy sideways, then its up high enough to prop him up, do the football hold and once hes latched then I can pump.

I don't have a boppy, I have the my brest friend nursing pillow. But I think with that I could make it work. When you do it, do you have enough when he needs to nurse next on the other side?

I do this exact thing, cept with a normal pillow. I juggled at first to coordinate pumping and nursing, but its working good for me now. i have to do this otherwise i leak everywhere...is that what a let down is? when baby feeds off of one and the milk leaks out of the other? i am stilly learning all this termonology. LOL

A letdown is when your milk actually starts to flow. When baby starts nursing it's usually a fast shallow suckle and your milk doesn't come out very fast. Once you "letdown" your milk is released and typically starts coming out fast which is when you would leak.

Are you pumping immediately after he nurses or just between feedings? For me it works best when I pump like an hour after Cam eats. For me that normally means at around 8-9 am when she is still sleeping and I know she's not going to be hungry for a bit. And pumping on the opposite side always works well too. I normally get a few ounces at a time doing it either one of those ways.
Good luck!

U can always try a little massage while ur pumping too. I have a very fast, heavy let down and like Laura was saying, most times I will leak on the other side so I pump while I nurse a lot. Also, in the middle of the night ill be engorged from going longer n ill need to pump both sides if she's sleeping. I always do a little pressure massage to help get more out and it helps.
