Maybe baby???

Hi ladies! Think this is it! Woke up about 4:30 this morning feeling off and couldn't go back to sleep-- kept getting the chills. Contractions started around 8 a.m. at about 12 or so minutes apart. I got very bad diarhea (sorry, TMI) and felt pretty nauseated. Went to my appointment at 12, MW timed contractions and felt belly during them-- they were at about every 9 mins. She checked my cervix, still high but soft and squishy and open-- very favorable. My blood pressure was pretty high so she is having to call the consulting physician but she thinks it's high b/c I'm in early labor-- no protein in urine-- waiting to hear back his verdict. She started me on some Caulophyllum and Cimicifuga every 2 hours to help my cervix and sent me home with a natural induction kit (which includes the C and C for today, cotton root tincture to start tomorrow with my breast pump, and castor oil for 8-12) but she HIGHLY doubts that I won't have a baby in my arms tonight! Unfortunately, if I haven't had him by 42 weeks (which again, she highly doubts), I will have to move to an OB's care so cross your fingers things pick up-- they have already! Contractions have become quite a bit stronger since I got home-- she also told me to go ahead and call my husband home (he works a hour and ten mins. away) and have my support team on stand-by. Smile
Will keep you all posted through Veronica. Smile

So, you aren't gonna believe this..... the contractions totally died off after taking a shower last night!!! My BP is still going up but they told me to drink a glass of milk and take it again and it goes back down (but it gets a little higher each time)-- so that's what I'm doing there. If I check it and it's up, I drink milk and it goes down for a bit-- and it's not dangerously high so we're ok for right now. I started the cotton root this morning and the contractions have picked back up, still haven't started timing them yet. Been on the pump as well but I'm taking a break from that. (TMI) Lost a ton of plug with blood this morning so even though I'm not contracting that great, I feel like some progress is being made. This lil guy just does not want to come out! My doula is convinced he is going to come on the full moon (the 13th) but I really hope not as I do not want to get to the castor oil part of the natural induction. My MW thinks it's his positioning that is causing the long early labor but I can't get him to move. I've tried it all: chiro., massage, all fours, robozo shifting, etc. I think he's just too deep in the pelvis, he may even have a hand down there-- poor guy. He's trying to come and I'm trying to get him here but this is exhausting. Question: I start the castor oil part of the natural induction tomorrow if he isn't here. The chance for a meconium birth scares me so would you do this or get your membranes swept? She offered to sweep my membranes but I don't know exactly what this entails or any risks that go with it. I do know that if he isn't here by Tuesday (42 weeks), I'll have to transfer care and I will most-likely be induced-- especially if my BP is still acting up so I'm weighing options: induction (w/ no birth center birth), membrane sweep, or castor oil.....

I have no experience with castor oil but I did have my membranes swept with DS. It didn't do anything for me but I don't think my body was ready at that point. Given how you are past due and have all the good signs of labor, I'd go with the sweep. It's uncomfortable, a little more uncomfortable than a normal pap exam, at least in my case it was.

I would try to avoid the induction and go with the other options. You want a natural birth and an induction increases your chances of an c-section and the contrax are much worse if you have to go on pitocin.

JMHO.

I'm so sorry Becca that your guy just won't come! Have you tried sex? I know this is probably the last thing on your mind but it might help.

So sorry Rebecca this is dragging so long

I never wanted to result to Castor Oil, Afraid of the meconium @ birth , But Candace still ended up having a BM.

If I were You I would try the Membrane sweep, If i had made my 40wk appt That's what I was going to ask My MW to do, then Talk Induction On the 10th which would have put me @ 41weeks getting induced.

Hope this comes Fast for you and things get the moving. I can't imagine how you feel right now. I really can't Sad

Funny thing I got pitocin with all my boys and with my last I was able to avoid a EPI, I didnt get Pitocin with Candace and Seem like the Contractions were worse without the Pitocin. have no Clue what that was all about. my mom had 6 kids was induced with her last 3 never Got a Epi with any of us.

If you get induced I'm sure your body will still do what it have to do , not like you never had kids before.

I would do the membrane sweep over castor oil any day. There is a slight risk of AROM, but my midwife said that really only happens if they do the sweep while you're having a contraction (we discussed it yesterday for use at a later date). Otherwise, it's just a cervical exam where the midwife runs her finger around the rim of your cervix, detaching the bag of waters. It releases a lot of prostaglandins and starts contractions.

That said, if you're having bloody show, I'd be surprised if baby wasn't here in 24 hours. Good luck mama! I know you must be so tired by this point.

I've never done the castor oil, but I've read things about it and I personally would do the sweep. I'm pretty sure thats what worked for me with our first and it sounds like your body is definitely ready...so the extra bit of help would through you right into labor!

Good luck girly!! I hope you have a little one in your arms tonight!

I'd go with the sweep as well.

At the birth center Tuesday night they said to try 1 oz caster oil mixed realy well with 1oz of vodka, chased with a couple of gulps of coke. She said you could do this twice. i have no idea, but i'm going to try to avoid it unless i'm desperate.

so try the sweep first. like the pp said its a bit uncomfy and will cause cramps or contrations but its not awful by anymeans especially if your body is ready, which yours most defintely is!

good luck!!!!

With my last baby DS#4. I had a membrane sweep at 40 weeks and I also did castor oil. He still didn't come until I was induced at 42 weeks. That said I did castor oil twice and it never caused me to have loose stools NOR did DS have a bowel movement before birth.

I would definitely go with the sweep over the castor oil. I've never had to have either, but from what I've read the sweep sounds much better. Good luck, hope that baby comes for you soon!!

Ok, membrane sweep done. His head is in front of my cervix (possibly causing the slow progression???) but she got two great sweeps around in. I'm a good 3 cm-- can be stretched to almost a 4 and almost totally effaced-- so we wait to see if this triggers anything. I will continue the cotton root tomorrow and I'm still thinking about the castor oil Sunday-- we talked for awhile on this and she has set my mind at ease about the meconium birth some-- just a lot to weigh (a castor oil induction is better than a pit. induction). I trust her but I'll think and pray on it some more. I'm really hoping this sweep will just do the trick.

Good luck! I bet the sweep does it. It sounds like your body is nice and ready.
