Random Questions

I previously posted this to the Chat thread, but thought I would start a new thread to see if I got more answers.

Question 1. Did you get a "thank you" gift for your shower hostesses/hosts? If so what did you give them, if you don't mind sharing.

Question 2. What kind of travel bag did you pack for the hospital? Was it a small suitcase, like a carry-on or more like a duffel bag? I want to get one ready in the next few weeks, just not sure what to use.

Question 3. I know this maybe a repeat, but what is the one thing you could not live without when you were at the hospital? This will give me some idea of something I may forget to pack.

Thanks in advance ladies!

I can only answer question 1 as this is my first time giving birthing.

I did get my girls a "thank you" gift. They were unhappy about it when i gave it to them cause "i wasnt supposed to do that and it wasnt necessary". i didnt care though, i did what i felt was right. i went simple, i got a set of oil infusers with an extra refill. they all loved it.

No - but it was my sister and my mom.

I used a small carry-on suitcase but that's because I don't own a duffel bag.

Won't be much help on this one since I was only in the hospital for a little bit but changing into my own clothes as soon as possible was the best for me. I hate the hospital gown.

Question 3. I know this maybe a repeat, but what is the one thing you could not live without when you were at the hospital? This will give me some idea of something I may forget to pack. don't forget to pack a long sleeved shirt for DH its evidently cold in the hospital..hahahaha pregnant and laboring you're dying but the guys are cold. if you're going to be able to labor at the hospital don't forget slippers to walk the halls and either a robe (or ask for a 2nd gown to hide your butt- teehee). snacks for DH and for you if you're allowed. Any medications/allergy stuff for DH and you.

I am a first timer so I am not much help other than to say...I did not get my MIL and Stepmom a gift for throwing the shower but I did send TY notes. I did take my BF (who hosted with them) to a resort for the weekend and we got mani/pedi. I am not saying this is necessary for all...we got a smoking deal on the resort or that never would have happened!

Duffel bag

It would be hard to narrow down to one item as I was there for 4 days due to c sec. Like others have said, a robe and slippers is a must to walk around (if you forget they will let you put another hospital gown on backwards to cover your rear). I was extrememly hot afterwards (hormones adjusting) and it was like 65F in my room. They brought in a fan to keep me from sweating. I was comfortable but DH was very cold. Warm clothes for him. I couldn't wait to take a shower, so shower items and clean clothes of your own from home (comfortable and I suggest a dark color pants/underpants uncase there is any leakage). Don't forget a camera!

#1: I did get my hostess (MIL) a gift, mostly because I was so thankful that she stepped in when SIL flaked and she had also thrown my bridal and baby shower for dd and I hadn't gotten her anything.

#2: I used a small suitcase, don't know if I will this time or not though.

#3: My cell phone! This time it will be my nook to keep me entertained, cause though I know I should be sleeping I know I won't be able to and I can't just sit there and watch tv.

Yes, I had two showers when I had DD and there were two hosts for each shower (MIL and SIL for one and my BFF and her mom for the other). I got each of them a little gift basket from Bath and Bodyworks with various things that I thought they would enjoy.

Question 2. What kind of travel bag did you pack for the hospital? Was it a small suitcase, like a carry-on or more like a duffel bag? I want to get one ready in the next few weeks, just not sure what to use.
My DD was born in the hospital and I brought my birth ball, cookies for the nurses (that I made when I was in early labor as a distraction) and a canvas boat and tote bag with my stuff in it.This time I'm just bringing a swimsuit to labor in (water birth at a birthing center) and a change of clothes to go home in.

Question 3. I know this maybe a repeat, but what is the one thing you could not live without when you were at the hospital? This will give me some idea of something I may forget to pack.
Chapstick and hand lotion. All through my labor and postpartum my skin was SO dry. This was probably because it was December, but still...I would have died without chapstick.

Thanks so much ladies! It's nice to get some insight and you guys gave me a lot to go one.

I just didn't want to look like too big of a dork with a suitcase full of stuff, lol

Question 1 - I am pretty sure I did. I just don't remember what I did.

Question 2 - We ended up with a few bags which were more like small suitcases/carry on bags. I had one, DH had one, baby had a bigger diaper bag of stuff, and we had one smaller one for snacks, camera, entertainment, etc.

Question 3 - Robe & socks/slippers, clothes for DH, "real food" (bc hospital food sucks! lol)!
