It seems...

... that along with some of you other ladies, I had an eventful night last night, too. Contractions started sparadically around 6 p.m. We ate dinner, I bathed the kids, got them all ready for bed, played drill sergent mommy while they picked their toys up, etc. Went over to my dad's to watch "True Blood" (we don't have HBO)-- knew I was contracting during all of this and like I had mentioned to Veronica, I had that crampy feeling like AF needed to come or had just started, but I hadn't started thinking I needed to time contractions. Got home and decided that perhaps I needed to start timing the contractions b/c they were becoming pretty uncomfortable, getting to the point where I couldn't ignore them and found out that they were every FIVE minutes! I timed them for a hour (hubby knew what was going on), called my dad to have him on stand-by, texted my doula to have her on stand-by but let her know I wasn't sure if this was IT b/c I had had a long labor with my son (un-induced, 23.5 hour labor, even with contractions this close) and I wanted to go to sleep b/c I was exhausted. My stomach got very upset and I took a bath to make sure I was cleaned up and went to bed. I fell asleep fairly easily after the bath and got woke up a few times by contractions but for the most part, this morning, I haven't contracted by maybe twice in 30 mins. but I still have that awful, annoying AF needs to start feeling! I hope I'm not gearing up to have prodromal labor like I did with DD. (As I type, I'm having the third contraction of the morning and it's a pretty good one!) This is how things played out before I was induced with DD, LOTS of contracting (even though I'm well-hydrated and haven't over-done it) that do nothing and tapper off after a few hours and by the time I went to have her, I was exhausted. I'm calling the midwives today to let them know my concern and what they think I should do but I'm trying to be optimistic that this won't be another two weeks of prodromal labor spells... ugh.

are you drinking your RRL tea? doing your cat/cow's and trying to move things along or are you hoping it stops?
hugs and i hope things progress more smoothly if this is what you want to happen.

I am drinking my tea and do want this to progress if it's the real thing. I think right now, I'm on the fence about whether or not it's early labor or not. Contractions have picked up again this morning and I had another piece of plug (sorry TMI) this morning.

Oh, yuck. I hope it kicks into gear for you soon. I've never had real prodromal labor (just lots of strong BHs), but I can imagine it's really exhausting. If you were to do some nipple stim when they are close together, do you think it might keep things going and make it more productive?
:bigarmhug: Hang in there!

Sounds very promising. I had similar episodes with my DD just a day before "real" labor started.

I am doing some NS and that does seem to be helping. I wish I had known a hot bath would stall early labor before i had taken that one last night-- my contractions are just now picking back up again. TMI, I lost more plug, too... perhaps things are gearing up...

I wish I hadn't taken that bath last night, I didn't know it would stall or stop early labor to take a hot bath. Sad My contractions are trying oh-so-hard to pick back up today, they are good contractions, down low in my pelvis and spreading up, lasting about 45 secs. but I can't get them regular like they were last night. Been doing some NS and drinking lots of water as I don't want it to just be irritated uterus.

Veronica, I will keep you posted when it turns into the real thing-- still trying to guess whether or not I'm in early labor now or if it's prodromal...

Why Did I take a HOT bath

Take a shower. (A note about baths: If you feel you need to get some rest before active labor begins, taking a bath may help you relax enough to sleep. However, do not take a bath in early labor if your goal is to get labor moving along; being immersed in warm water in early labor can slow down or stop your contractions

I know! I'm so pissed at myself but I didn't know. Sad I sure went to sleep but now I can't get those contractions back regular for nothing.

Oh gosh, that stinks. I know that's the main reason that MWs and OBs won't let you get into the birthing tub until you're in good hard active labor.
I'm sure it will pick back up for you soon if it's the real thing! Sending some labor prayers your way!

Good luck ladies! it sounds like you are really almost there and I'm TOTALLY jealous!!! I know I'm still a bit behind you and Cassandra, but I'm still jealous Smile I don't want to hijack your thread, but how did these start? Becca - I remember you saying your BH were coming more frequently and stronger...was that right before this? Or did you have some mild cramping on and off for a few days? Cassandra - was it the same for you? Cramping on and off for a few days then the more intense/consistent contractions?

Oh - and I'm so sorry to hear about the bath ladies! Hopefully you will both have some regular contractions soon!

Guess I won't be taking a bath whenever I start feeling contractions... LOL!

As Jamie said, I'm jealous!!
I hope things get moving for you, or stop and give you a break until the real thing. Smile

For me, it literally started out of the blue. I started having some mild AF crampiness, like my period needed to start or had just started on the 15th and then these contractions just started out the blue yesterday afternoon and picked up in intensity and got closer together-- after the bath, they literally stopped. I had a few here and there that woke me up out of sleep but nothing regular, nothing regular yet today but the contractions, when I have them, are strong.

Hmmmm...I'm dying to get to your point Becca (and Cassandra) Smile I never went into labor on my own - at my last appt my doctor stripped my membranes which sent me into labor. So I'm so curious how it actually starts on its own!

This will be only the second time I've gone on my own-- I had prodromal labor with DD and ended up being induced. I was in early labor with DS for a long time though-- most women don't even recognize they are in early labor but I do b/c the contractions are pretty strong for me. Smile
