STTN and milk supply

Did any of you struggle with supply issues once your LO started STTN? My supply is almost gone (read only get 5 ounces in 10 hours) now that Cam has started sleeping 10 hours straight. Do you pump in the middle of the night to keep it up? I've tried the fenugreek and she nurses on demand during the day except the one day a week that I work. I started supplementing with formula because she was very unhappy and seemed hungry and she now is back to her happy self. I've never had this issue before. I tried co-sleeping again, but she doesn't want to nurse at night any more. Maybe my body is just extra sensitive this time around Sad

What is this magical thing you call STTN? Sorry you are having supply trouble because of it. We are still up every 2-3 hours here. I've had a very rare 4 hour stretch here and there.

yeah we're still not STTN either here.
my friend that's baby started doing that got up once during hte night and pumped for 10-15 minutes. put a cap on teh milk shoved it and the "horns" into the fridge and went back to bed. so she was up a shorter time that way.
it does sound like your LO was hungry. hard to get to that willingness to do formula. hugs that you've made it this long!!

I'm so sorry. I noticed a little decline, but not enough to supplement. I'd definately try pumping during the night and see if it helps. Also, make sure you are drowning yourself in water (drinking it, I mean) Smile

Thanks ladies. Today I only got 3 ounces in 12 hours at work. I am so frustrated. I know she's more efficient than the pump, but this is ridiculous. Tonight I'm going to keep her in bed with us again and see how it goes. I am also going to check my pump over and make sure there's not something wrong with it that could account for some of it.

the diaphram in my pump got a hole in it. it was no longer making my nipples into wine bottle corks (well that's how it looks to me) so i knew something was up. DH took it apart and found the hole. and of course that part is NOT replaceable. so i got lucky and my neighbor is no longer BFing and had the same pump so i'm using her motor and all my supplies. so that worked out well.

have you been eating the latation cookies? oatmeal? fenugreek? etc etc etc.....have a beer at night too i always found the hops helped.

hugs!!

Thanks, Gretchen. I was drinking 3 cups of double strength Mother's Milk Tea, but went and bought fenugreek today. I have been eating oatmeal. I replaced the membranes on the pump and I can tell its still pumping hard (definitely got the cork boobs, lol). I'm not much on beer, but may try the lactation cookies. Today I'm pumping every two hours and just mixing the milk with her formula. She slept with us last night, but didn't wake up to eat until about 5 am this morning, so that's not much help. I'll just keep trying and reminding myself that SOME breast milk is better than none at all. Just need to make it a few more months.

that's the conclusion i had to come to as well. some is better than none. and once i got to that place in my heart and remembered that its teh nursing relationship as much as it is what she's getting from me then i was good.
Hugs! my goal is 9 months and i'm close. we'll see if i go to a year. i wouldn't mind it at all if that happened. but we shall see!

Hmm... how suddenly did it change? I've never had trouble with supply once LO STTN. I don't pump, but he sleeps 11 hours at night and nurses 3-5 times a day and I never seem to run out. But, is she STTN you could be gearing up to O, which can decrease milk supply. Also, is there any chance you're pregnant? Mine supply disappears pretty darn quickly when I get pregnant.
Good luck and yes, a little milk is better than none.

No chance I'm pregnant and I've been ovulating for several months. It's gradually been decreasing since she started STTN...
I'm sure my body probably did this before with DS and DD1, but they didn't sleep through the night until they were 10-11months old and it really wasn't a big deal by then.
