Toddler help (semi OT)

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help us with my toddler.

He just turned 2 last week. Since I was in the hospital the second time (2 weeks ago) my ds1 is wetting the bed. But it's weird. He isn't toilet trained. He doesnt take his diaper off like some toddlers do. He just likes to play with his penis. To the point where he is soaked, the bed and blankets an stuffed animals are soaked, and his diaper isn't. It's fuller in the afternoon after 3 or 4 hours than it is at night, because he is pulling it out and peeing all over. I change the bed at nap time, and in the middle of the night. He wakes up crying saying "all wet" so we change him. But it's driving me nuts now. A lot of extra laundry and extra less sleep for all of us.

Is this a phase? Is it related to baby coming home?
DH thinks we should potty train him.... While I agree he's almost ready for it, I don't think this will stop this behavior... He will have better access to grabbing himself without a diaper! Lol.

A friend of ours had the diaper coming off issue and bought zipper pjs with feet, cut the feet off, and put them on her DS backwards. Then he couldn't get to his diaper. Maybe give that a try?

LOL! Thats a brilliant idea except he hasnt been wearing one piece pjs for MONTHS. Partly from the fact that he'd unzip them too, but mainly from the fact that hes too tall for them. His body and legs are too long, even for the ones without feet. Hes in size 2-3T stuff and is often mistaken for being 3 or 4 yrs old b/c of his size.

Any other ideas?!

Could you try putting the diaper on backwards? I did that for a bit with my DS, until I decided it was too hard to backwards diaper him and started putting Easy-ups on him at night.

As for the PTing, you could give it a try. My DS does grab himself quite a lot since we started(since a lot of times at home we go bottomless) but whatever. Smile

Limit his liquids for about 1-1 1/2 hrs before bed, that could cut back on the middle of the night wet wake-ups.

And good luck!!

Cloth diapers with snaps. Smile Also, Carter's makes one piece jammies up to a size 5, I bet if you put those on him backwards, he wouldn't be able to do it.

hmm I'll have to look into carters.
Today he wasnt wet - AND he slept 13 hours. I was happy lol.

He doesnt actually remove the diaper, he just puts his hands down the front of them to get at himself lol. I dont think any different kind of diaper will stop him - but the backwards clothing might be a good idea lol.

they make onesies up to 5T so maybe one of those would be a good idea.
good luck...i'm sure its a phase. just remind him that peeing on his animals and linens isn't nice.

Duct tape? Lol There are several one piece jammies available around here but I'm not sure if Canada would carry any of them. I know once it gets colder Shopko sells one piece jammies up to at least a 5T. I don't think Carters ships to Canada but if you are close enough to the US I do *love* Carters clothing.

My oldest DD used to get creative with her diaper in bed too. We did the backwards pj trick and it worked wonders! You can get Carter's clothing in Ontario. I buy them at Bonnie Togs. Good luck!
