Went to my GD class

I asked DH to go with me and he did. There were 3 other women in the class but he was the only hubby. I was proud of him for going. I really think this is something we can handle. It mainly seems to be about limiting the bad carbs and just stretching your carbs out throughout the day and not eating them all in one meal. Also, eating the smaller amount of carbs in the morning.

All in all, I'm pleased with the class. I have to go back in a couple of weeks to meet with the dietician(sp) to see how things are going and how my blood sugar is going and if we need to tweek some things. She gave us her phone number and email etc. if we ever have questions. She seemed really realistic as well like if we have to eat out or fast food, how to handle those situations.

Thanks ladies. I really hope it goes well. DH has said that he would support me and do it along with me (he could stand to loose some weight). I really think this will be an easy transition for us since we'll all be doing it.

That's really awesome of him. I know it would probably be good if all of us ate like that all of the time. You have such a great perspective on it. I know some women who failed and acted like they were being persecuted by having to eat more healthy, LOL.
I hope you both do well.

Yay for your DH!!!! Wonderful that hes so supportive!

Im glad the class went well and that the dietician gave you their contact info - thats really helpful! Also good to hear that they are realistic, in terms of eating out and how to deal with that and other things that come up in everyday situations.
I wish you and DH luck with this!

Ps, please share any good recipes you come across!!!!

Glad you had a great GD class and your dh went with you.. I currently have GD and also had it with my son. It really isn't that bad.. I am hoping to continue with this GD way of life after I have this little one. Just a heads up.. you may lose weight while eating this way.

that's awesome he went with you! If I fail my 3 hour and have to take the class I'd like my dh to go too. When I told him I failed and had to to follow the GD diet until my next test, he kinda laughed it off and acted like it was no biggie. I'm thinking HELLOOOOO!!!! It CAN be a big deal, and also later in life! Many of my aunts and uncles, and my dad is diabetic, so I'm kinda bracing myself. And honestly didn't pay much attention to how unhealthy my eating habits was before! YIKES! I've lost two lbs already! Good luck to ya and I agree share some recipes if you come across some good ones, I too hope to continue on this "path" after delivery.

glad the class is working for you. I also have GD and although i didn't find the nutritionist helpful, i did get some tools to help eat the right foods at the right time. If you need any advice or recipie ideas or whatnot - feel free to PM me, i'm always looking for new snack ideas or whatever. ALso, there's this cereal and snack bars that i really like, it's glucerna (if you go to their website they have a coupon) I really like the mini snack bars, the chocolate pb and the oatmeal raisin, i keep them in my purse, cuz sometimes i get a little cranky if my numbers are low and they are only 1pt (not sure if you're doing the pt system or not).
Also, excercise is huge!! after lunch and dinner i get out and walk, and that has honestly made huge difference in my numbers.... Good luck!!
