Yeast coming out her butt? (TMI)(XP)

So Evie has been having painful gas and not pooped in a few days. I was giving her homemade rice cereal and we tasted homemade asparagus (then the gas started bad) and then I realized that asparagus is not a recommended 1st foods (oops). So I tried yellow squash. She likes all the food we've tried (just those three) and eats about 1/2 oz each time I offer it (about once a day). Well, since the painful gas and the lack of poop, I've stopped all solids for a while. She definitely seemed ready and had LOTS of signs that she was.

But lately, when she toots the painful gas, I think she's pooped and I go check and I see a white yeast infection type discharge coming from her butt hole. She also has white yeast infection type vaginal discharge. I've never experienced this before.

At her 4 month check up I asked the doc to verify that she didn't have oral thrush cause she had a couple of spots on her lips that went away but we were having painful latching again. She said she didn't have any. Did we miss it and it's now in her digestive system?? I'm confused.

I called the doc and am waiting for the nurse to call me back.

Anyone else deal with this before?

I was originally thinking it was yeast in her digestive system, but the doc we saw doesn't think it's yeast. I need to read further about it I suppose. The doc seemed to think that it doesn't present the same orally as it does rectally. There's no red bumps associated with a yeasty diaper rash. And of course, I wiped it off her this morning and it wasn't there at the appointment. He listened to her belly and palpated it and said since she's passing gas he doesn't think there's anything wrong but a sluggish bowel.

But I read that it can come out in their feces.

He suggested giving her juice to get her pooping. I don't know, now. I don't want to feed the thrush.

Gah.

oh geez.... but if she started pooping she'd be more comfy and then you could back off on th juice. wonder if prune juice would have the same thrush feeding affect as say apple???

Well, the problem with prune juice is they don't sell it in small quantities here and no one else in the house would drink it. I don't like spending $5 on a bottle of juice that only 2 oz of it will be consumed. kwim?

I was thinking of just using a lubricated q-tip today to try to get things rolling. But I'm so tired right now, that after I take DS#2 to preshool, I'm taking Evie and going back to bed and hoping she'll not try to escape. Lol

Ok, I think we had the same thing here. Back story... back when we had an awful stomach bug, Alex got a mild case of it. When he would diarrhea, it would come out frothy white and a little seedy... almost like his normal breastmilk poo except WHITE, white and a little (sorry, TMI) frothy, like I said... scared the poop outta me (no pun intended) so I called pedi. Our pedi. said it was a lack of bile from the stomach bug... he had thrown up some before. Now the question is, if this is the same, what could be causing her to have a lack of bile?

I wanted to add, the white in her vagina could be just leaking from her butt to there. May be coming from one place.

well, she's been spitting up, too. She hadn't been before the solid started, but she's been off them for about a week and still spitting up. It's not any more than regular spit up in a baby, but she wasn't spitting up. She's also coughing while on her back like she's got reflux. I don't know if this is connected or not.

You don't think she has a blockage, do you? eek! I would definately get a second opinion.

no blockage. The doc palpated and said everything felt fine to him.

plus I have the added confirmation of her pooping today. xp'd from sept board:

But good news is she pooped tonight with no prompting from me. it was the normal color. and no white mucous or anything white in it, so it must just be an exterior thing. The poo was very, um, fibrous/stringy, so her constipation most likely was a result of the solid foods.

I'm gonna keep holding off on the solids for another few weeks and then try again if I feel up to it.

As for the white stuff.. I've got nystatin still, so I'm just gonna apply it twice a day and see what happens. I feel more comfortable knowing her digestive system is not laced with white pasty stuff.

glad to here she is ok, and pooping.
I can't imagine what it will be like to start solids just yet.
