How Are They Doing Now? Wonderfully. The only "after effect" is that he sleeps more than an average newborn and eats less at a time than the average newborn. This is per my physician.
We were very blessed that he weighed in at 7lbs 2oz. He was very healthy and came straight home! He's my miracle!

Reason For Premature Birth: Docs never figured out why, but my water broke and I went into labour
Medical Difficulties Preemie Indured: She had trouble breathing and needed surfactant in her lungs - she had to move from our local hospital to a tertiary care hospital because she needed that level of care. She had some apnea spells in the beginning (first few days)

How Are They Doing Now? Fantastic! She is quite the character - just saw her 4 year old boy cousin today for easter and they are the same height! She was a big baby - 19 inches, 5lbs, 14 oz.

Actual Birthday: May 29th, 2008 (woohoo! I kept this kid in a whole 8 days longer! ;))
Reason for premature birth: Doc still doesn't know why. I was off work (supposed to be bedrest) at 30 weeks and my cervix was nice and tight all the way to my last doc appointment on May 27th. Once again, my water broke and I went into labour (way faster this time....from water breaking to birth was 1 hour 25 minutes!)
Medical difficulties: other than being overstimulated by his big sister on the first day and needing to be left alone in his isolet for the next 24 hours, he was fine. They kept testing for jaundice, but nothing. He took to breastfeeding once we got a good nurse who let me try to get comfortable vs just whipping him away within the first 5 minutes of failed attempts. No breathing issues this time.
Length of stay in the NICU: 8 days
How are they doing now? Fantastic. 10.5 months old, crawling, pulling up, generally causing havoc. He was 6lbs 6oz at birth and is now about 21lbs.

Medical Difficulties Preemie Indured: Jaundice and feeding difficulties (she needed a feeding tube for several days).
Legnth Of Stay In NICU: she didn't have to be transferred to NICU thankfully but she did stay for 8days in the special care nursery
How Are They Doing Now? Great - she is 14months old now and can I say - wow! I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. She isn't walking yet on her own but she has started to push herself along with her walker. She's also started drinking from a cup in the last month which has been a major accomplishment - even drinking from a straw which took Joel (our middle child) forever to do. She seems very much like a normal 14month old except perhaps a bit on the small side (she is about 9kg now which is equal to about 20lb).
