Did you have bad morning sickness? Any tips?: Horrible; don't manage a restaurant

Did you see a specialist during your multiple pregnancy? If so when & why: No

How often did you see your Dr after you found out you were carrying more than 1?: Once a month until 24 weeks, then every week

How often did you have u/s’s?: Once a month

How much weight were you told to gain during your pregnancy? How much did you actually gain?: 40-50; gained 15 lbs (lost 10 during 1st trimester, then delivered early)

When did you find out the babies sexes? 19 weeks

Did you go on bed rest? If so when & why: No

What did you do while you were on bed rest?:

How far along were you when you delivered?: 29 weeks

If your babies were preemie, why did you deliver early?: HELLP Syndrome

Vaginal or C-section? By your choice or the Dr’s?: C-section with general anesthesia, no choice

Did you breastfeed?: Yes and now pumping

What are some things you consider Must Have items for new mommies of multiples?: Halo sleep sack swaddlers, boppy pillows (mine love to lay in them and look all around), about 30 changing table pad covers because when one pees on one the other will get the new one

What are some items you found completely useless with your multiples?: swings so far (they are still teeny tiny babies though, I may change my mind)

What items were you glad you had multiples of & what items do you feel you wasted money on by buying more than 1?: boppy pillows, double stroller that carseats click into, 4 oz bottles especially if you have preemies because the hospital sent us home with a ton of theirs and I will probably only use the 14 I bought for another month. 9oz bottles are just fine.

    Pregnancy after multiples?: Nope

Anything else you’d like to add?: Twins are a lot of work, but I am looking forward to raising them.

    Name: Tara

    Kids: Addison and Brooke, 4/19/2009

Age when pregnant with your multiples: 28/29

Fertility treatments or spontaneous?: Fertility, but twins do run in my family

Were you multiples your 1st pregnancy?: Yes

When did you find out you were carrying multiples?: 7 weeks

When did you 1st feel movement with your multiples?: Probably around 18/19. Doc felt movement around 16

Did you have bad morning sickness? Any tips?: Nope, I felt slightly off, but nothing bad.

Did you see a specialist during your multiple pregnancy? If so when & why: At 32 weeks. Baby A's had REALLY low fluid and wasn't growing well, so they wanted to check her heart and get a second opinion if they should be born then, or wait a few more weeks.

How often did you see your Dr after you found out you were carrying more than 1?: Every 3 weeks until about 26 weeks, then every 2 weeks, then around 29 weeks twice a week.

How often did you have u/s’s?: Once a week at the end. I had a total of 21.

How much weight were you told to gain during your pregnancy? How much did you actually gain?: I was told between 45 and 60, and I gained 44.

When did you find out the babies sexes? At my 16 week u/s.

Did you go on bed rest? If so when & why: I went on "limited activity" at 26 weeks because that is what my doc orders for all of his multiple moms. Then I went into pre-term labor at 29 weeks, so the bedrest got a little stricter. Then at 32 weeks it got REAL strick because of lack of fluid.

What did you do while you were on bed rest?: Preg.org!, TV, e-mail, books, knitted, etc...

How far along were you when you delivered?: 37 weeks, 1 day

If your babies were preemie, why did you deliver early?:

Vaginal or C-section? By your choice or the Dr’s?: Vaginal!

Did your babies spend time in the NICU? If so, why & how long was their stay?: Luckily they didn't spend a second there.

Did you breastfeed?: I pump and give it to them in bottles

Fraternal, identical or questionable?: Fraternal. We weren't sure until they were born, and DH's first words when Baby B came out was "Oh good, they aren't identical! I can tell them apart already!"

What items do you recommend for a mommy-to-be of multiples?: An extra set of hands!!!

What are some things you consider Must Have items for new mommies of multiples?: LOVE having two bouncy seats! The girls love them!

What are some items you found completely useless with your multiples?: Fancy dresses and lots of bows. They just aren't pratical in everyday life. They look really cute for pictures, but I would rather spend the money on clothes they can wear all the time.

What items were you glad you had multiples of & what items do you feel you wasted money on by buying more than 1?: Glad we had two bouncy seats, boppys. There is really nothing that we had two of that we didn't need. We only had one swing, and that was enough for us.

Pregnancy after multiples?: Ready for my boy twins! But gotta get DH on board for another one.

Anything else you’d like to add?: They are a lot of work, but what baby's aren't? I wouldn't trade a single sleepless moment for the world!!!

Figured it's time I filled this out!

    Name: Leah

    Kids: Isaac and Gabriel

Age when pregnant with your multiples: 24

Fertility treatments or spontaneous?: totally spontaneous - they dont even run in my family

Were you multiples your 1st pregnancy?: no

When did you find out you were carrying multiples?: 8wks

When did you 1st feel movement with your multiples?: flutters at 16wks, kicks at 19-20wks

Did you have bad morning sickness? HORRIBLE
Any tips?: Eating little bits constantly, especially before you get up in the morning, something bland but with protein like almonds. Also, lemon. Seriously, suck a lemon. It helps.

Did you see a specialist during your multiple pregnancy? If so when & why: Not really, my regular OB just handled all the high-risk stuff

How often did you see your Dr after you found out you were carrying more than 1?: Every month until 24 weeks, then twice a week or weekly

How often did you have u/s’s?: one at 8wks, one at 12wks, one at 17wks, one ay 20wks, then one at 24wks, then weekly or twice a week

How much weight were you told to gain during your pregnancy? How much did you actually gain?: 25-35 lbs, and I gained 30lbs

When did you find out the babies sexes? Isaac at 17wks and Gabe at 20wks

Did you go on bed rest? If so when & why: Yep, at 24 weeks, due to advanced cervical effacement (My cervix shrunk from 36mm down to 11mm in a matter of weeks). Was in the hospital for one week then sent home on strict bedrest.

What did you do while you were on bed rest?: My boyfriend got me the entire series of Battlestar Galactica...and I kinda got a bit obsessed and watched it for like 8 hours a day. And of course, pg.org!

How far along were you when you delivered?: 30 weeks 3 days

If your babies were preemie, why did you deliver early?: Unstoppable preterm labor

Vaginal or C-section? By your choice or the Dr’s?: Both. Not my choice! Isaac was head down and already really low, then after I delivered him, we found out Gabe had flipped to breech and his cord prolapsed so they had to do an emergency C section.

Did your babies spend time in the NICU? If so, why & how long was their stay?: Yep. Isaac spent 42 days (6wks) there and Gabe spent 61 days (almost 9wks) due to respiratory distress and other complications of prematurity

Did you breastfeed?: We're still trying, but I am currently pumping to at least provide my breastmilk for them.

    Fraternal, identical or questionable?: Fraternal

What items do you recommend for a mommy-to-be of multiples?: Barbara Luke's book "what to expect twins triplets or quads" was a wonderful resource. The nutritional recommendations helped me pack some extra pounds onto my boys since I knew they would come early.

What are some things you consider Must Have items for new mommies of multiples?: Two bouncy seats!! Seriously, we couldn't live without them. Also, tons of receiving blankets and cloth diapers for burp cloths.

What are some items you found completely useless with your multiples?: They're not that into the swing, luckily, it was a gift.

What items were you glad you had multiples of & what items do you feel you wasted money on by buying more than 1?: We NEED two bouncers. We actually didnt buy much since these were our first babies. We dont have two of anything else really and it works for us. They are still little enough to be in one crib.

Pregnancy after multiples?: Absolutely! Just have to get dad on board now LOL.

Anything else you’d like to add?: Know the warning signs of preterm labor. Cramping (it doesnt have to hurt), backache, pressure, feeling like something "isn't right". Don't ignore them. I did, thinking they were nothing, and by the time I got to the hospital I was already 4cm dilated. Also, listen to your doctor/husband/partner/friends when they tell you to take it easy. Rest with your feet up when you can. Even if your pregnancy is going smoothly, your body is doing an amazing amount of work! It needs rest. If anyone has questions about being a preemie twin mom, feel free to PM me. It's a really tough ride.

    Name: Sarah

Kids: Anna Maureen and Joseph Daniel

Age when pregnant with your multiples: 27

Fertility treatments or spontaneous?: Very spontaneous. A week before I got pregnant I was told I wasn't ovulating at all and should take a break for a year or so before considering treatments.

Were you multiples your 1st pregnancy?: Yes (after early mcs).

When did you find out you were carrying multiples?: 8 weeks, in the ER. I thought it was another mc and it turned out to be subchorionic bleeding with twin B.

When did you 1st feel movement with your multiples?: I felt tickles starting at 15-16 weeks and distinct prods and pokes a couple weeks later, and soon it became like those Alien movies where something was about to burst out of my stomach.

Did you have bad morning sickness? Any tips?: Nausea 24 hours a day for four months. I never actually threw up, though. Sucking on chunks of fresh ginger and drinking hot water with lemon juice helped a bit.

Did you see a specialist during your multiple pregnancy? If so when & why:
MFM once around 18 weeks, to check weird ultrasound results regarding twin B's brain (turned out OK).

How often did you see your Dr. after you found out you were carrying more than 1?: Once a month until 30 weeks, then weekly, plus twice-weekly home visits from a midwife starting at 32 weeks for BP, fetal HB and contraction monitoring.

How often did you have u/s’s?: A growth u/s monthly from 12 to 34 weeks, with 4D portraits thrown in, and a quick peek at every OB visit.

How much weight were you told to gain during your pregnancy? How much did you actually gain?: I got no indications. I lost 7-8 pounds at first. I only gained weight between 16-28 weeks. The day before delivering I was up 19 lbs, and the day after I was below my pre-pg weight.

When did you find out the babies sexes? 16 weeks.

Did you go on bed rest? If so when & why: Yes, house arrest starting around 24 weeks and complete bed rest at 30 weeks for pret. labor & shortened cervix, then a hospital stay 10 days later followed by even stricter rest at home. The couch now has a deep groove where I lay on my left side day after day.

What did you do while you were on bed rest?: I read lots of 19th-C novels, counted contractions, sewed and embroidered, tried to keep up with translating and research and got a permanent crick in my neck. Looking back on it, I'm nostalgic for the quiet time, the anticipation and the coziness of it all, though at the time I was mostly aware of being anxious and in pain.

How far along were you when you delivered?: 35 weeks 5 days

If your babies were preemie, why did you deliver early?: Many weeks of preterm labor that was slowed but not stopped by meds and bedrest. But they were barely preemie and I'm still amazed and grateful that we made it so far.

Vaginal or C-section? By your choice or the Dr’s?: Vaginal by mutual agreement. First twin unassisted, second needed instruments.

Did your babies spend time in the NICU? If so, why & how long was their stay?: Yes, 9 days. Joseph needed oxygen at first and had breathed in fluid so they gave him antibiotics (no infection after all), they were both a bit small and too sleepy to eat much and needed light treatment for jaundice, and Anna had tort and twisted hip/foot issues. But no major problems and they probably could have come home sooner.

Did you breastfeed?: Yes, and I pump a couple of bottles every day so my husband can handle one feeding at night and let me sleep for a few hours.

Fraternal, identical or questionable?: Boy + girl = frat.

What items do you recommend for a mommy-to-be of multiples?: A solution for those days when you can't get enough real food down. I found a plain whey protein powder (not one of those weight-loss protein drink mixes full of added chemicals) that I mixed with different combos of fruit etc. in the blender. Good for breastfeeding twins, too.

What are some things you consider Must Have items for new mommies of multiples?: The double electric breast pump, which I wasn't planning to use until going back to work in a few months, saved us when they were in the NICU. I couldn't have kept up with feeding them otherwise. A sling, pouch or scarf to carry/nurse somebody so your hands are free for the other(s), and also safe places to set a baby down in a hurry when something comes up, like a donut/nursing pillow or even a changing pad you can whip out and set on the floor.

What are some items you found completely useless with your multiples?: I now realize---with my very few weeks of experience, of course---that the most important part of preparing for twins and for parenthood in gen. is not so much buying baby stuff but rather organizing your home and your life so you can function with as little fuss and wasted energy as possible. When we found out it was twins, we got a microwave, washing machine and dryer and built lots of storage space. Before that we'd survived with a hotplate, a dorm fridge and a laundromat.

What items were you glad you had multiples of & what items do you feel you wasted money on by buying more than 1?: Just need 2 carseats so far.

Pregnancy after multiples?: We hope so! Husband and I agree it'll be a bit of an anticlimax if it's "only" one baby next time around.

Anything else you’d like to add?: I second what Leah wrote above about being aware of preterm labor signs and indulging in precautionary, preventative resting. I'd read a dozen books describing the symptoms and still didn't make the connection, but late twin pg is already such an uncomfy period that it's easy to ignore new discomforts.
